  1. Ramirez would certainly qualify as a big move, but I shudder to think what the cost would be.
  2. Crazy to think McCutchen was a Top 5 MVP finisher for four straight years and then had a Christian Yelich style implosion at 29. Between that and getting nothing useful for Gerritt Cole was not a good start to getting back on track. [sarcasm]I also loved the foresight of Counsell to know that we could afford to get swept in that 5-game series right before the all-star break in 2018 and still win the division[/sarcasm]. That gave the Pirates a glimmer of hope that resulted in them trading Glasnow and Meadows for Chris Archer. This is a really good point, and a clear case where missteps by management clearly harmed/shortened any competitive window the Pirates had. Another reason to be so happy with the people in charge of the Brewers right now.
  3. Probably a nothingburger. As we've learned here in the past, the Stearns camp rarely is responsible for any info getting out. If there's any legitimacy to this, it'd be because it was coming from the other side of a deal, IMO.
  4. A bit unlike it, actually, in that in this case I made one off the cuff observation and won't post about it 19 times.
  5. [sarcasm]I heard it from Skip Bayless, so it must be true.[/sarcasm]
  6. Yeah, the coaches are teaching a clinic on this….Source? What? It was literally framed as my own personal opinion/observation.
  7. Interesting idea. His numbers indicate that he's been hurt this year by the general craptitude of the D-backs overall. $5.25 million cost on the option.
  8. Yan Gomes would indeed be a fantastic acquisition, but I do wonder if some of the fring-y NL East teams like the Nats may wait a bit to sell to see if they can gain ground on the DeGromless Mets first.
  9. I really dislike it when guys 'dive' toward the defender on a three point shot to initiate the contact and draw the foul, and the Suns do it so often that it appears to be part of their coaching strategy, which annoys me immensely.
  10. The Urias discussion is probably a better fit for the Urias thread if the discussion should continue, FTR.
  11. The Astros are in first place- why would they sell off Greinke?
  12. The Angels continue to be an absolute mystifying case study. Arguably the two best players in the game, astounding FA money spent on Rendon and Upton, etc, and just a 5% chance to make the playoffs. Because of perception and the money spent on their team I think they may feel pressure not to sell, but they'd have some assets I'd be interested in (like Walsh as suggested above) if they are interested in a sale. Problem is, a cheap, controlled bat like Walsh is the type of asset a team should retain even in a sale.
  13. Also worth noting in the optimism thread as we head into the stretch before the deadline- the Brewers really have set themselves up as good as you could hope for as far as potential needs/upgrades are concerned from a cost standpoint. Bullpen help and a 1B bat upgrade should both be readily available, and more cost-effective than other positions or SPs. As such, they should be able to smartly use their somewhat limited farm resources to acquire help without destroying the farm.
  14. Emphasizing once again that our FO is really good at what they do, despite all the concerns in the offseason.
  15. Yeah, it is pretty remarkable. Tampa made out fine, but it's incredible to me THAT was the price for Adames and no other team was in the picture. Yeah. I said it in an in-game thread over the weekend, but though this does seem like one of those trades where both sides accomplished what they wanted and got better as a result, us Brewer fans may look back on it as season-changing for a playoff run at the very least, and possibly franchise-changing as well.
  16. It still astounds me that we were able to acquire a dual-threat SS (good defensively and excellent with the bat) for two BP arms, highly projectable though Rasmussen's arm may have been. Absolutely astounding.
  17. Ok guys, let’s move on.
  18. There was A TON of early hatred on Hook here. An absolute ton.
  19. Nice series to hopefully put a damper on the ‘how can the Brewers continue to win with this offense’ stuff as well.
