  1. It might be semantics, but the CDC is suggesting administration of the vaccine be paused. Nothing has been officially suspended. Of the 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine administered so far in the U.S., there have been six confirmed cases of blood clots in women ages 18 to 49. I have absolutely no doubt that this likely case of extreme caution is going to cause overblown paranoia. True, but this clotting issue is similar to concerns with Astozeneca across Europe and many other countries, the other adenovirus vaccine... But, the Astrazeneca vaccine was eventually approved, as the clotting cases were no more prevalent among the study participants than the general rate of blood clotting in the typical populace.
  2. I'd certainly be interested in Machu or one of our medical/microbio posters' take on this. As RRB noted, it's a small sample of the people who received the vaccine thus far. Considering the recent 'production issue' that supposedly stemmed from the Astrazeneca and J&J vaccines being produced at the same facility resulting in human error confusion, I wonder if this is somehow related?
  3. Fans are more focused on the need to 'win' trades/transactions than the front office probably is, especially in the short term.
  4. Are we truly making a determination based on 4.1 IP? This used to be the haven of 'small sample size'.... seems far more reasonable to wait and see if Corey makes it through the next few months effective and healthy before we make a determination.
  5. A couple of additional 'beyond the headline' thoughts: First, it is worth noting that though the data is available online, the study has yet to be peer reviewed, which is a key part of the process. Not that it is guaranteed to change anything, just worth noting. Also worth noting that the true nature of the findings here is 'notably more adept at breaking through', which I don't think is hugely surprising. Doesn't mean Pfizer is completely ineffective against it, just less effective. Finally, this is a bigger story in a place like Israel where nearly all of their vaccines administered were Pfizer. Obviously, studies are to come regarding Moderna and J&J, but here we've administered all three vs. just one. Worth noting that key difference, IMO.
  6. The original poster wasn't talking about the offense as a whole, he was talking about three specific players.
  7. To emphasize the point based on the adjustments given above, which again are a bit dated, Wong is an above-average 2B based on the quoted 5-year history, and JBJ is as well, though his numbers have trended downward significantly. 2020 saw it jump again, but it was fairly excluded from the initial data. Garcia is below average, but he has trended the other way, with two of his last three years above average. Looking at straight, unadjusted data provides an inaccurate assessment.
  8. Thanks for re-emphasizing what I stated above more clearly. Though more current variance numbers would be helpful as well.
  9. I continue to be puzzled by the repeated attempts to use OPS+ to measure the offensive productivity of up-the-middle players, as it's truly a horrible metric in that regard. Garcia, I'll give you.... What's a better metric? Well, WAR inherently adjusts for position.
  10. I continue to be puzzled by the repeated attempts to use OPS+ to measure the offensive productivity of up-the-middle players, as it's truly a horrible metric in that regard. Garcia, I'll give you....
  11. You know there’s a whole forum full of threads where you can post about in-game stuff, right?
  12. It must really be hard for Cubs fans to cry themselves to sleep knowing they only won 1 World Series in the last 5 years... Oddly, depending on the generation/age of the Cubs fan, that's actually true in some cases.....
  13. Out of curiosity and if you're willing to share, what did the patio doors run you?
  14. Yes. Since most people couldn't travel last year and people got extra funds via stimulus, etc., the assumption is that they chose to put those funds towards home projects and such.
  15. I was assuming $10k for nicer, brand-name windows (I'm replacing 9 double-hung) non-wood (our old ones are wood and I generally hate how they wore over the years). The quote was double what I assumed. Nearly identical quotes from Pella and RBA.
  16. So accurate. I have no doubts that any homeowner would do well in selling or in tapping equity right now. But home improvements are insanity based on a couple of projects we've done over the past couple of years. Handyman stuff is still fair and reasonable, but any sort of major replacement/project is $$$$$$.
  17. Only ONE measly hit for the Cubs? Are their fans calling for the firing of their hitting coach this morning? /blue... wait, no blue- they probably are.
  18. Now that most restrictions are being lifted on the outdoor side of things in both Wisconsin and nationally, it seems hard to continue to restrict it in the lots.
  19. I do think we're in an age where there are tool to help with this (Angie's list, general internet ratings, etc.), but prices are comically inflated for some things. We too are replacing windows on our house for the first time, and we quoted out two of the most known/respected windows (Andersen/Pella). The quote we got from Andersen was 2x what I expected. The quote from Pella was identical. All family members I ran it by thought they were high, but asking around my area and obtaining multiple quotes suggest it's the going rate. Which is outrageous. I've heard horror stories from people who have used the TV replacement window/door companies, but after seeing the dollar amounts on the respected ones, I understand why people go that route in the first place.....
  20. In the past 30-ish years of the NFL, there's a number of circumstances that clearly effect who becomes able to succeed as 1st rounders and those are destined to fail. Talent evaluation is certainly one of them, as some guys are absolutely overdrafted due to a team's desperation.... too many guys rocket up draft charts while ignoring red flags or because of combine stuff. The team they go to matters A LOT, as those that end up in situations where they have a good staff, good supporting team around them, and in a lot of cases, the ability to sit and learn a bit seem to have a much higher rate of success. In the end luck matters too. Is Tim Couch or David Carr a bust if they go a bit later in the 1st to better teams? Is Peyton Manning the same guy if he ends up going at #2 to San Diego instead of Indy? Is Aaron Rodgers the elite HOF QB he became if he was thrown into the fire in SF at #1 overall like Alex Smith was? Who knows. Darnold is probably viewed better if he ends up in Cleveland or Buffalo, as you note.
  21. ....But now they don't HAVE Arcia, so they have two pitchers AND that full $5 million.
  22. Perhaps Sobotka could be a Corey Knebel type. This basically proves the first part of my quoted sentence.....
  23. I think we have a long history as fans of trying to paint a rosier-than-accurate picture of trade return guys like Sobotka, but I'm legitimately intrigued by Weigel. Seems more than just your projectable fringe MLB arm as you'd expect.
