  1. And then what? 2003 and 2004 was a long time ago, and way before our window of young talent opportunity.
  2. Exactly Brew. RD is more of an indicator if something is wrong. To dismiss it by just citing an outlier isn't exactly using the stat for what it's intended for. I'm sure if we were +38RD and still having these results, DM would have said it was just bad luck. Looper is horrible. He's worse in all his peripherals. HR rate up, K rate down, BB rate up and his BABIP is actually down from last year but that's more luck then anything. Everything I look at for Looper is bad, FIP, TRA+, WAR/RAR. The worst part is, we have to pay him 1 million dollars next year to not play for us.
  3. Because during his presser today, he said he doesn't believe in run differential. Saying that there's no difference in losing 6 - 5 or 16 - 1. Then cited the Yankees as being the best in baseball and still lost 22 - 1. Doug, you cited an outlier of the stat. There's a vast difference between losing 13 - 2 all the time and losing one or two games a year big.
  4. Cams at bat. Close call, could go either way.
  5. 0% of the time. Competitive balance doesn't mean everyone gets the exact same number of times in the playoffs. It simply means that it's an even playing field and everyone works with the same. Good FO/Good Staff/Wise Trades makes you. So no, there is no competitive balance. Small market teams can't acquire Top Tier FA due to the deep pockets of others. Salary cap would go a long way in bringing balance and parity to the league.
  6. This is Victorinos ejection. Nats also got an out with another blown call. http://cdn2.sbnation.com/imported_assets/223985/jerrycrawfordmakesworstcallof2009_medium.jpg Umpires aren't infallible, they make mistakes. I make mistakes at my job, so it's going to happen. But unlike when I make a mistake, Umpires are not punished. The umpire union needs to come down on these mistakes, rate their pay based on % of correct calls based on Questtec auditing of their strike zone. Call a game with in a margin of error of ~3% you aren't docked pay. As far as replay goes, that needs to be done in a way to prevent large delays as well as not allow for teams to keep doing it. That way you discourage frivolous replay requests to buy your pitcher a few more second of a break. And to add fuel to fire. Here's Brauns stirke 3 called from yesterdays game. http://cdn1.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/65434/location_php.png JUUUUUUUUUUST a bit outside.
  7. Yep I'd have to agree. Perhaps the Brewers will surprise me, but I'm pretty much not expecting any meaningful September baseball.
  8. This thread is in desperate need of renaming. Best Signature FASTFOOD Burger.
  9. I don't like it.. Swindle struggled in pro ball, but seems to have a big up side. The fact that he kept being pitched in super uber low leverage situations where he was just supposed to eat up innings meant to me the organization didn't look at him as feasible. Reminds me of the raw deal Balfour got when he was us. Swindle was Yosted. I for one am prepared to watch Swindle become awesome for the RAys and look at another Bullpen mistake by our FO.
  10. That's not the point though. As stated above, it's publically financed building for a for profit industry. Yes it probably has a positive tax influence by bringing in more sales then not having the stadium but the tax was levied with a sunset of 2014, and as a dirty liberal hippie I want to ensure that the tax actually sunsets. I'm all for increased temporary taxation to help fund some projects, but it has to be just that.. temporary. With my season ticket holder hat on, it's really going to stink to have to pay 384 more dollars next year on tickets alone, plus parking. A Dollar seems fairly high per ticket, if it could be reduced to something more reasonable, it wouldn't bother me as much. Perhaps a percentage of the sale with a max cap of 1 dollar. That way the % spent on a 5 dollar burnies isn't the same as a 75 dollar field level ticket.
  11. Moneyball is always a safe pick.
  12. It's much better then Vista, but they sure are trying to make it look and act a lot more like OSX. But you know, anything is better then Vista.
  13. * Assume sexual intercourse as soon as you feel comfortable and have discussed this with your surgeon. Nice! We'll know when Hart is better when he knocks up his wife!
  14. Signed to Minor League deal, expected to report to AAA Tomorrow. Per Adam McCalvy tweet. #Brewers today signed CF Corey Patterson, recently released by #Nationals, to Minors deal. He's expected to join Triple-A Nashville tonight.
  15. I think MSC hit it on the head. Placebo effect. I have a friend whos' a quack Chiropractor and she's insane about it. It seems more a cult then anything else, you believe it'll cure you so you feel better in the abstract. For instance, I had severe back pain, numbness in my feet and lack of mobility. MRI revealed 1 L4-L5 acute herniation pressing on the S1 nerve root, 1 severe herniation in L5 - S1 and a buldge in L3-L4. I was told by my neurologist that I'd require surgery, Chiropractor said a 6months to a year with therapy it would fix it. My body would absorb the damaged disc tissue. Lets see... 6 - 12 months of high dose drugs to cure the pain plus adjustments for a year, or surgery the correct the issue with a 99% success rate. I went with Surgery and it changed my life. I'm afraid of Chiropractors, a twist of the back can't cure everything. And most importantly, I had a friend who went to a Chiropractor, got adjusted and ended up having to go to the emergency room that evening due to severe back pain. Chiropractors are just holistic healers. There's a reason why Western medicine has migrated to the scientific method.
  16. I would rather slice myself with a dull knife then watch more batting stance guy.
  17. I'll nudge the little lady into updating her post.
  18. Well the good news is that Dillard is better then Suppan, but the bad news is his tRA+ is still 77 (Or 77% of ML Average Pitcher). It's 10 points higher then Suppans and 11 points higher then Looper.
  19. Congrats. That's a huge win.
  20. Unfortunately I think you are right. I was hoping for a Hardy for SP Trade during the off season, Escobar may not have a bat yet, but that will develop in time. The way Hardy is swinging the bat, he's deflating any real hitting loss by going to Escobar.. while at the same time devaluing himself for trading. I miss Ben Sheets....
  21. I'm not even sure Hardy can snag a good SP, we can maybe look at a 3 / 4 type player. I assume Looper is gone (I just read up on tRA+ and my god, is Looper bad) and with the price of SP being so high, we'll have to hope for a package of mid rotation SP plus high ceiling prospect in A ball or something.
  22. Fair enough. Melvin really hasn't done much to improve our ballclub this year. With the fact that (as stated above) we have two massive contracts with little to no real value eating up 24% of our payroll, we also gave away 1 million to Julio (who looked like crap in ST, and we finally dropped). 2010, we are possed for much of the same until we free up 24% of our roster. We have severally over paid for pitching, and it's not so much we rolled 'them bones and gambled for a win, we rolled them bones for 5 years on a gamble that stats that indicate a regression some how break from tendency and improve. Add into it how he divorced ourselves from one of the best pitchers in baseball (Sheets when healthy.. yeah yeah, still doesn't excuse the fact that the bridge is sooo burned by Melvin). He was extremely reluctant to fire Yost, now brings in Macha who appears to be perhaps equally Yostian, he then engages Deputy Braun in the media (He should rise above and not make the situation worse). This clubs success was based on drafting, we had our window for the past 3 years and Melvin was unable to fill the gaping holes in our lineup to compliment our farm talent. That window is closing in 2010 when we'll see massive salary increases for these players, so we'll trade them away. Our rise to contender wasn't due to brilliant Beane-esk moves, it has to do with our farm club talent becoming just that talent. I'm not saying Melvin wasn't the person for the job before, but like Yost, he was fine getting us to a point, but now we needed to take a step further. And Melvin hasn't delivered.
