  1. I liked Bush when he looked like he'd keep getting better. He is what we thought he was. I'd like to keep him if the price was right, but I'd be a little hesistant to pay him anything more that $4-4.5 million per year.
  2. I'd really like to see the young players (Lucroy, Escobar, Cain) continue to play well. I've been waiting all year for a streak of like 16-4. Would be a little late, but would make September interesting. Want to see starting pitching stabilized, but waiting for that for 2 years. How about 4-5 times through rotation without anyone getting crushed for 7-10 runs in 4 innings.
  3. One of the major problems on this team has been the apparent lack of intensity. They don't seem to perform well under pressure and don't seem to care too much. As a former hard core sports guy, one of the things the opposition will respect is hard-nosed respectful intensity. In football, basketball, etc. teams get credit for paying tough defense without being dirty. The only place that can really be shown in baseball is by hitting the other team (not in the head) to let them know that they can't hit your guys without getting hit back. It shows you are a team and you'll protect each other. Doesn't really matter if you're right or not, its part of the idea that cohesion builds a better team and you're in it together. Brewer pitchers, even if they get ejected, need to retaliate to help this team cohese (if there is such a word).
  4. I used to think this was the best comedy on TV. I agree it has lost its edge, but all shows do after a few years. I liked the unpredictability of the situations they got into, the interaction between Ari and Lloyd, and the acting of Drama. Its gotten a little too cliche and predictable, but maybe part of what they're going for is the whole idea that its easy to predict what'll happen when you become a star. I was thinking about how I would have done the show differently and the only thing I think it missed so far is Vince becoming a "hard core" drug user, and I mean hard rugs, not more pot.
  5. I'd DH Kottaras (based on matchups) and call up Lucroy for the weekend. Gives us more pop then the alternatives and gets Lucroy a taste of MLB in a backup role.
  6. Also like to see the Brewers expand their connection to the summer festivals. They should do a ticket deal where they "theme" the whole game. For example, a ticket to a Wednesday night game gets you into Irish Fest free the following week. Brewers play Irish music during game, have Irish band in parking lot, team wears green hats or jerseys, Bernie dresses up, etc. Could do this for most of the big ones. German fest is a natural. Obviously this is likely more favorable to the festivals, many who are on limited budgets, but the team would continue to solidify itself as part of the summer milwaukee experience.
  7. Could be some cool ideas for the ProAm. Current Brewers may be out due to the timing / off days, but you could get Yount (maybe sponsor exemption to play?), Gorman, etc. Adds to the publicity, gets more people interested. Kind of like the Lombardi classic, they could add a Brewers themed golf charity event also.
  8. I think the issue of whether the team has improved is still TBD. At this point I'd say its about the same or slightly worse (1-2 wins). However, I believe it is TBD because there is still a need to add depth in position players (OF, IF, C). It is still up in the air whether they keep Heether, Iribarren, Lucroy, etc. My gut is that they don't go into a season like last year where the pinch hitters/last 2-3 guys on the bench are unproven players. The team is already very young or injury prone at many positions (SS, CF, 2B, 3B) and the bench will be important. I could see adding 2 veterans who are not spectacular, but at least steady. This could make the difference in about 3-4 wins depending on injuries. Think about guys like Kapler or Counsell and how much impact they had compared to guys like Brad Nelson. If they could add a legitimate 4th OF to go along with Gerut and another guy who could play 1B/3B/corner OF and provide some power off the bench, I'd be much happier.
  9. I'd love to have the chance at these.
  10. I graduated in 2004 from MU. The thing I liked about MU was the support staff was outstanding. They really try to help you do your best and get through the grind. This is a bit different from what I hear at other schools, although I of course have no first hand experience. I found the school was not overtly competitive and there was an atmosphere of helping each other and teamwork. Additionally, MU seems to be moving up the charts on how its viewed, if that matters at all. I did find the diploma privilege to be an advantage, but it was most important for me to stay close to Milwaukee because of my wife / kids and job. If you are flexible in where you want to live and can save some money, one of those other schools may be OK. I did receive lots of negative feedback on N.IL from people I know. I had a few transfers from there in my MU class and they only had bad things to say about Northern.
  11. Wow! I kept hearing about this at work. The discussion was split 50/50 between he's on drugs and its a "Borat" type joke. Now that I've seen it, I'm not sure. I was convinced at first that it was a joke, but now I'm not sure. I'm starting to think drugs, but he looks about 50 lbs overweight, so unless he's just smoking weed by the kilo, I'm still not sure. It was amazingly painful and hilarious at the same time.
  12. Razzor, I'm seriously considering doing my basement this spring. What company are you using and are you happy so far?
  13. I'm going 08-29 to09-01. Anyone have any ideas on getting tickets for a Yankee game? They are completely sold out and I'm not happy about the Stub Hub and eBay prices. If I buy 2 on the street are they going to be OK?
  14. It matters a great deal where you got the ticket. Some jurisdictions are more flexible in these things. Also, with a "move over" violation some jurisdictions have a strict policy on reductions as they are trying to educate the public to the danger. The officer may also have an impact as they write a summary on the ticket that you don't see. Its not uncommon for them to request no reduction on the bottom or add comments about your cooperativeness. Thats why you shouldn't call the cop names or whip him the finger, etc. All in all, my experience has been that if its not too inconvenient, you should always go to court and contest a violation if you are concerned about costs/ points, etc. At the least you lose an hour or two of your day and at the most you get a good deal. An example, when I was interning in a local prosecutor's office, I was told I could never deal on a seat belt or OWI violation, but everything else was was fair game. There were some guidleines, but I often based my deals on the attitude of the violator. If they were crabby or called the cop names, they got the basic deal. If they were contrite and respectful they could get a better deal. This especially applies when you get multiple violations. I also gave better deals to attorneys as they usually knew how low I could go (and asked) and I figured the violator was already paying a decent lawyer bill, so a little slack was OK. Once I gave an older lady an obstructing traffic parking ticket instead of speeding - no points and no driving record issues.
  15. Joe Alexander and Richard Jefferson. Both seem like an upgrade in work ethic and attitude, but sometimes I wonder why I even pay attention to the NBA any more. Every year teams trade 4 or 5 players and 1/2 the teams fire their coaches. No one plays defense until the playoffs (which is still a mess), and the refereeing is a mess. The Association is more about "showing off" than playing hard.
  16. There is a tendency to question moves based on a good performance or two, or more so to question them based on hindsight. The reality is that the rotation was discussed numerous times on this message board before and during Spring Training and I don't remember very many people saying Vargas should be in it. A few had him in the bullpen, but many wanted him traded or released. Melvin made the decision to release him when other options didn't arise and saved significant money in the process. It may turn out to be a bad decision (not likely based on his historical performances), but you need to look at what they knew and when they knew it.
  17. I'm surprised no one had anything to say after this awesome episode. Lots of shooting, a little killing, some more questions about Ben. It looks like there must be some way that Ben can move off the island and go back. And I don't get how no one can find it (the other dimension thing?). I know one thing, the constant flash backs and forwards have left me feeling like I'm watching that backward Seinfeld episode. Maybe they'll put out a version of Lost in which all the stories are in proper order, but that'll be at least a few years from now.
  18. I'll be there with a buddy from New York and am really looking forward to it. Anyone else going to be there wearing Brewers gear? I'm told the Shea faithful can be a little brutal, so I'll temper my cheering to appropriate times.
  19. I'll be there also and was really looking forward to Sheets v. Santana. At the very least, the probable match up should make us the favorite in that game.
  20. Any updates from you all on things to do? It looks like I'll be in Baltimore for a day (get there at noon and have a meeting the following morning) and will be checking out a game. My thought was to just get a cheap ticket and wander around the area of the ballpark and eat/see whatever they have.
  21. My thoughts were a different group from the boat is looking for the "Temple" also. In the flashback to the boat with Michael/Kevin, it appeared that they have some serious firepower and they haven't shown it off yet. If there really is a "mission to get Ben and kill everyone else," then a second landing group with guns would make some sense. Also, anyone having trouble watching this in Time Warner HD. Mine kept breaking up and pixelating. I had to switch to regular TV.
