  1. Schoop is 6 for his last 16 with 3 HR. Can we maybe stop riding him for one night? He is far from our biggest problem right now.
  2. If Soria and Hader are giving up rockets what would you suggest he do? Tonight, didn’t need to go to the pen in the 5th. I’m even willing to guess Hader didn’t warm up that long. Players are the ones who need to come through but CC hasn’t put his team in a great position lately either. I've second guessed Counsell plenty of times but I don't understand this one. Its to the point where you have to start winning more of these games. A walk prone starter began the inning with a walk, never a good sign, and then gave up a hit. A game can be lost in the 5th. He went with his best reliever to keep the game from getting away and Hader didn't get the job done, that's on him. I'm glad he can be flexible enough to go to Hader regardless of any situation or inning and start treating these like playoff games.
  3. Two game giving up 7 runs. One giving up 4. Otherwise 3 runs or less in the rest of his starts. “Couple” seems like the right word to me. Tonight, 4 IP, 5 ER. He's had an outing of 4 IP, 1 ER, with 4 walks and 3 hits where he was very fortunate on the runs total. 3 IP 7 ER on August 10th. 6 IP 7 ER on July 25th. 3.2 IP 3 ER on July 11th. He's had 5 clunkers in his last 8 outings. 2 good outings his last 8. Absolutely should not be in the rotation especially when you consider he's 22 and his control isn't refined.
  4. Freddy has had a lot more than a couple oops games. He is very fortunate they have stuck with him in the rotation this long especially given his tendency for control problems.
  5. If you can't afford $4 million to add a Daniel Murphy, and block him from a team that they were 2 games back of with 5 weeks left, you might as well fold up the franchise. Clearing a roster spot? Put Thames on the DL. Murphy can play LF. Who'd you like taking AB's in Sept, Thames or Daniel Murphy? Why didn't we claim Mccutcheon just in case the Cubs tried to get him too? Matt Adams from the Nationals? Or, if Murphy is still so good and so valuable, why didn't any other team in the NL take a shot at him? You simply can't run an organization that way. Yes occassionally you'll be making claims as a blocking technique but you can't put in a claim on every player who might potemtially be a useful asset to any other potential playoff team. There are roster constraints and salary constraints. In a vacuum yes we can afford 4M. Bigger picture, no, we can't afford to be a team that can throw 4 million dollars at a player we don't even want just to keep him away from a rival to reduce their chances of winning the division from 90% to 88%.
  6. https://www.si.com/mlb/2018/08/23/baseball-cop-book-excerpt-eddie-dominguez-anthony-bosch-mlb-drug-testing-ryan-bauer Pretty interesting stuff on Bosch, Braun, A-Rod, etc.
  7. I also hated the idea of trading for Hamels. I would have been happy with Archer, but only at the right price, certainly not what Pittsburgh paid. I will add every situation is unique, and its possible if Hamels were here he wouldn't be having the success he has had in Chicago. It's also possible Archer would be developing into an ace here. Congrats to Theo and the Cubs, they nailed this one, great pickup. With that said the Hamels story isn't over yet. Perhaps he carries them to a WS, or perhaps he massively collapses in the playoffs. I will say, his current rate of success with the Cubs isn't sustainable.
  8. We are 18-15 since the all star break. I don't know how to find that split exactly but just looking at past 30 games we are 11th in W/L record. We have not been one of the worst records since the ASG, people seem to think we are in a total collapse but we have played just about as well since the all star break as we did before it. That 1-8 stretch right before the break derailed things, post ASG hasn't at all. We are 18-17, not 18-15. Not a huge difference but you took away 2 losses there. Which is why I've said we really need to go on a good run as .500ish ball to the finish line will not be good enough. I think 89 wins will be the minimum needed which would require going 16-13.
  9. I'm not sure the schedule is as weak as we'd like to think. Almost all NL Central games remaining and we have a very poor record against divisional opponents. Doesn't bode well.
