  1. It's time to put the tarp on. Don't have a repeat of yesterday out there. We'll wait, and if they call it, we'll take it. This is ridiculous.
  2. The complaining was before he decided to stop hitting like a pitcher. It was well deserved. He had a rough 1st half offensively, but he was never in Arcia territory. I mean don't get me wrong, I was all over getting Realmuto, but Pina has rebounded nicely.
  3. For all the complaints about Pina this year he's got his OPS over .700 now, about a 10 HR a year hitter. That's just fine for a high end defensive catcher.
  4. These guys are just getting themselves out. Strasburg is offering to put them on for free and they won't take it. That was just an extremely poor offensive inning.
  5. Hacking away at a 3-0 pitch with the bases empty against a guy struggling to find the zone and it wasn't even a strike. Just really, really dumb baseball.
  6. That could have been much worse. I think I would have PH for Strasburg if I were the Nats especially with how he has labored the last 2 innings.
  7. Doesn't MLB schedule the wild card game on a Tuesday to give the teams a day off? It might be a moot point. Yes, I believe you're right, but if Hader in particular worked the two prior days, one day might not be enough if he worked multiple innings on either occasion.
  8. I was discussing this hypothetical with my dad yesterday. Say you're in position for the second Wild Card on the last game of the season, but if you win, you'll be the first Wild Card. (Cardinals will be the other Wild Card regardless). Close game late, Hader and Jeffress worked the day before, would you use them again to try to ensure winning the 1st wild card and playing at home, or would you save them to make sure you have them for the WC game?
  9. I think the Brewers pitchers as a whole are terrible. But yeah, Chase is probably the worst of them. I feel like Zach Davies is alright at it. Again that's just going by blind recollection, could be wrong.
  10. I feel like Chase Anderson is a terrible sac bunter. I have no stats in front of me and I might be totally wrong but the eye test says he's horrible.
  11. Not a great looking AB for Braun. In a bit of a mini slump (0 for 11). The good news is we made Strasburg work, bad news is his pitch count is still in nice shape.
  12. I'd honestly hold on Santana now. If we weren't happy with the offers for him last season, we'll probably have to basically give him away now after this season. Broxton should probably be traded as he is out of options and our roster will be too full for him on opening day. I'm fine with shopping Thames. Bringing back Miley as insurance if Jimmy isn't effective right away wouldn't be bad. Even trading Aguilar would not be a bad sell high if you can get someone to overpay, but that's a tough move to sell to the fans right now.
  13. Couldn't this be easily circumvented by designating 4 out of your 5 starting pitchers as 'inactive'?
  14. Statcast says otherwise.... https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/team/158 Thames 2nd half - 147/183/507, 4.2 BB%, 49.3 K% (just under 35% on the season), 24 wrc+ Braun 2nd half - 291/336/822, 5.4 BB%, 11.6 K%, 118 wrc+ Braun 4 DRS in LF (Yelich is 0 and Thames -1). Yelich 3 DRS in RF (Thames 2). So the defense as a unit is significantly better with Braun there instead of Thames. I can't believe these numbers would even need to be stated when it's blatantly obvious with the eye test. Now factor in BABIP with exit velocity/hard hit/etc and compare to their previous years as well. *All* the info pointed to Braun having a lot of bad luck in the first half. His 2nd half numbers could easily be his season numbers based on how he swung the bat. The eye test also confirmed it. Thames had a very productive first half both in terms of how he swung the bat and his statistical performance. But has not swung the bat well in the 2nd half - he's not even hitting the ball hard and the eye test confirms this. I like Thames. He's talented and is an offensive threat he's just been struggling hard since the break, which means there's no way he should be chosen over Braun *right now*. Even if you take Thames first half vs Braun's second half you still go with Braun more times than not due to all aspects of the game. Also, I have no idea why anybody would reference ISO unless it's packaged with a dozen other metrics to paint an entire picture - that stat solely proves ones power, which has nothing to do with how good a player actually is (ie Cain's ISO is 127). Granderson was acquired because Thames isn't getting the job done. Not Braun...but Thames. It's another depth piece and we gave up Demi, who won't be a MLB player. If they make the playoffs I see us going with a bench of Thames, Granderson, Perez, Schoop, Kratz and rolling with 12 pitchers. I'd like to see Broxton on the playoff roster, guessing it would have to be at the expense of Granderson or Thames (whoever has a worse September, perhaps). They should easily be able to get away with 12 pitchers in the postseason as you mentioned.
  15. I would have liked to see Burnes starting all along, but at this point, the ship has probably sailed until 2019.
  16. And it's 34.6% for the season, which is not 40%, so it was a heck of a lot less than 40% in the first half. You never said "in the second half", until right now. He's going through a very bad stretch, but you're making him out to be totally useless trash which he is not. There's no need to trivialize the point of Nate multiple times (or me, whoever you are referring to), by saying "it's a weird hill to die on." You made your point, he made his.
