  1. Of course the Cubs have already finished their season series against the Dodgers and we haven't even started and play them 7 times yet. Because, of course.
  2. Dodgers can offer more because they have more and can afford to buy whatever they don't have more of. Actually on the surface they are not going to be able to take on all Manny's contract without dumping salary elsewhere because they want to stay under the luxury tax. Will be interested to see how they work this in.
  3. If Machado goes to L.A, I fully expect him to have at least 2 go-ahead 9th inning HRs against us in the first series after the break. Because that just seems to be exactly how it would go for us after all this.
  4. I'd rather him go to the Dodgers than Phillies frankly. I think the Dodgers will make the playoffs regardless, Phillies may not.
  5. No, absolutely not. yup, ridiculous. I really don't think that's ridiculous or probably that far off at all. No top 100s, we keep Burnes, Peralta and Arcia -- isn't that what people wanted to avoid #1, giving up Burnes? Woodruff is probably the "headliner", which if he's the headliner, you're going to need to include some quantity as well, and Ortiz is probably a fair addition to that package. Erceg is tough to give up but his last season's worth or so in the minors haven't progressed quite as we hoped, and we're well set at 3B for the next 4 years. I won't tell anyone that they should or should not want to make that deal but I doubt it is far off from reality at all especially if the Dodgers or Phillies have better headliners. The Rangers got a much better headliner for a Darvish rental last year. You're not getting Machado for Ortiz+Phillips.
  6. I remember one particular game after Knebel went down in which Albers basically blew it, but that was about it. There was not 'a bunch of' blown saves after Knebel went down -- at least not a bunch of blown games. The fact is that the pen as a whole was far better in Knebel's absence. Knebel is arguably the 4th best reliever in the pen right now, and yet he's being pigeonholed for the 9th. Yes he was a "lights out All Star closer last year", but this ignores how extremely volatile relievers are from year to year. You could have made similar arguments about John Axford and Derrick Turnbow at one time.
  7. It then says in the next sentence: "Tyler Saladino is the current Milwaukee shortstop and he’s been underwhelming in his first year with the Brew Crew after being acquired from the White Sox." Which, to be fair, does imply Manny would play SS here (obviously he would). But then it says Tyler Saladino has been underwhelming (wrong) and makes no mention that he (Saladino) could easily move over to 2B as well even though they just talked about Shaw moving to 1B (to repace... Aguilar? Really?) Just a weird paragraph clearly cranked out without a hint of research.
  8. New York Post already talking about how Harper saved his free agency with his HR derby performance. What kind of idiot GM would hand out a 9 figure contract based on a HR derby?
  9. I totally had forgotten for like a year now that Doug Melvin is actually still employed by the Milwaukee Brewers until I saw this post. What the heck is his job again?
  10. *If* the Phillies land Machado I think the most frustrating thing will be losing him to a team that we will most likely be competing with for a playoff spot. I wondered last year, if we had acquired Pat Neshek instead of the Rockies, if we would have beaten them for that last spot, and Neshek is obviously a lot less impactful than Machado.
  11. I keep seeing people comparing Medina to Burnes, including MLB Pipeline's tweet earlier... and isn't Sixto Sanchez the Phillies #1 pitching prospect? Who they refused to put in a deal for Machado? Makes sense the Brewers wouldn't offer Burnes. Can't really compare #1 pitching prospects to #1 pitching prospects when one is clearly a better pitching prospect. Kind of apples to oranges to pears here. Sanchez is clearly the more valuable pitching prospect than Burnes who to me is clearly a better prospect than Medina.
  12. I absolutely can't see Stearns budging on Burnes. That said, I absolutely can see Mark Attanasio not being able to take it anymore, and calling Stearns sometime today or tomorrow and telling Stearns, "Let's send Corbin to Baltimore and end this."
  13. That post definitely makes it sound like offering Medina makes Philly the frontrunner. With that said, Medina is only in High A and having a poor season. I'd wonder how they would value him versus someone like Woodruff. I think they'd obviously prefer Burnes over Medina. I have no idea what the Orioles really want but I personally don't see Medina as an exciting enough headliner that it couldn't be beat with a very deep offer.
  14. Danzig I agree that Knebel is the only guy being used conventionally, and I think that's really part of the frustration here. Counsell is fairly innovative in his pen use, with the complete and total exception of the 9th. The 9th belongs to Knebel. Why would you be generally unconventional and then change your philosophies for one specific inning? Even more maddening, when they were forced to do it unconventionally in April/May, it worked wonderfully.
  15. CF Cain LF Yelich SS Machado 1B Aguilar 3B Shaw C Ramos RF Thames 2B Saladino That would be kind of a fun lineup to watch.
  16. If they want it, they can do both. I also think you really need to get Ramos if you get Machado. He shouldn't be too much, and you might as well fix catcher too.
  17. The idea is obviously super exciting and it’s hard not to get excited for a player of his caliber. But I’m really trying to stay grounded with the building of our franchise. The move just doesn’t make sense to me. Yelich-type move, I get it. Machado-type, I don’t. Yeah, it's tough to be patient, but I agree. That says if it does happen of course I'll be excited as I think 95% will be. Unless we give up some crazy stupid return which I don't see happening.
  18. I was more "in" early than I am now. I won't throw a fit if we get him (depending on the package) but I do think a move like that is a move that should put you over the top. I don't think it does. Hmmm. Well I'm not a huge believer in the concept of over the top anyway, as obviously there's no guarantees either way. That said, I guess I'd wonder if you don't think a guy like Machado can put you over the top, who that could be acquired would be? Or maybe you're saying you don't think we're close enough for any one guy to put us over the top.
  19. I would hate it less if they at least did away with that. It's not going to be enforced anyway, so, why?
  20. I'm all over the place on wanting and not wanting Machado to happen. I do, then I don't. I guess it'll depend on price like anything else.
  21. Thanks for sharing and your honesty about who you are in regards to insider information. No harm or mess here at least from my perspective, you were just sharing what you heard. I tend to take everything with a grain of salt this time of year anyway until confirmed. My advice in the future would be to present it probably in a way such as, "I heard about X from this source X, I believe it may be true but take it for what it's worth." Just my 2 cents, take it for what its worth as well.
  22. I really didn't get that vibe at all. He wasn't even a board member during the HH19 incidents.
  23. Yeah I agree. It's pretty stupid. It encourages wild hacks at whatever, penalizes the pitcher for missing the zone, penalizes the batter for hang time -- it's just dumb. 10 outs is fine. Don't know what was wrong with that.
  24. If this isn't true, and you think you are being funny, I won't mind if you get banned. geez. Meh, this is the Twitter era, we should all be used to it. There's a couple mods here who have some degree of inside info, so if they start talking, I'm definitely listening, but other than that I pretty much take it in stride and check sources I trust. Of course if he ends up right, good for him.
  25. Might as well take a stab in the dark, eh?
