Exactly. As someone with 13,000+ posts on Brewerfan alone and thousands upon thousands of posts on other boards, tweets, Facebook and Myspace posts, I couldn't even begin to guess whether or not I have something out there that could be perceived as offensive. The idea that Hader just knew it was out there ready to ruin his life and didn't bother with it is so ridiculous. A 'tweet' is a very quick and in the moment post and particularly by a teenager likely won't be remembered the next week much less 7 years later.

No, it's not all about destroying people. It's about a person saying some really hateful things and being held accountable for it. It's not a witch hunt, he said these things. And throughout his professional career as an adult knew that stuff was out there and wasn't bothered by it enough to get rid of it. I agree there's a difference between saying it when you're 17 vs 23. But from many of the posts I've seen, it sounds like people dismiss it completely because he was 17. I don't. As I said earlier, all we can do is hope he really has changed- for his own sake. Yes, it is about destroying people. Well, maybe destroyed is too strong of a word, but Hader's life will never be the same after this. Do you really think a 30 day suspension and some classes is going to hold Hader "accountable" in the eyes of those who vilify him after this? No, in the eyes of most of them, he is vile and can never be redeemed. As far as him knowing it was out there and not bothering to get rid of it now, that's naive. I can assure you if it was in any way in his mind that those were still out there, he was well aware of what could happen if they ever became public, so I really doubt it was just something he couldn't be bothered by. Quite a bit more likely that like the the billions of other social media tweets and posts that people made 6-7 years ago, it simply became a lost memory. I still occasionally have Facebook remind me of something I posted 7-8 years ago, and while not vile or anything like what was posted, still makes me look at it and say, "Wow really, I said that? I would never say that now."

I think he should be suspended. If it's 3 days or 30 days, it doesn't really matter to me. Otherwise it sends a message to minority groups that MLB is tolerant to players with a history of bigotry. That's a terrible precedent to set to suspend someone for something they said as a minor. Good luck every time a possible historical racist/sexist/homophobic quote is allegedly attributed to a player via social media or even simple hearsay.

So should you have to atone for anything inappropriate you ever said or did as a teenager as well? He apologized and owned it. What exactly else would you like to see him do? I'm sure this has hardly felt like a "free pass" for him and his family, who had what should have been one of the most exciting nights of all their lives ruined by it. So what more punishment should be thrown at him? Kick him out of baseball for it?

It isn't okay for someone to say the things that Hader said. Put yourself in the shoes of the minority or gay 17 year old "kids" that read his posts. Disgraceful and unacceptable. Literally nobody said it was. Has nothing to do with my point.

If there was something more recent it likely would have been found by now since he's already under the scope. Which brings me back to my original point of deliberately trying to ruin people's lives since it has in fact been shown that someone faked a tweet from him from 2016 in an effort to drag him further through the mud.

I'm not excusing anything Hader said, but it's very sad to me that it is okay in this society to deliberately dig for digital skeletons in the closet of every person who has turned out to be a matured, decent adult, and look for anything that can be dug up to ruin their life for their words as a minor. That is sad. It bothers me that that is in any way okay. I promise you that if you were able to review and scrutinize the every word of every adult in this country of what they said in confidence to someone, joked about to friends, or typed as a teenager at one time in history, 99.9% of them would end up looking pretty bad. Stop trying to ruin people's lives for being a dumb kid at one time. It isn't okay.

Agreed, it appears it would have taken Hiura to land Machado, and I'd like to see the people so angry at David Stearns right now try to justify how that would have in any way have been a good decision.

Yes, that's it. He puts in all the work, all the due diligence, sends scouts, puts analytic teams on it, all so at the end of the day he can be praised by fans and press for almost landing a big name. Come on Briggs, you know better than this.

Huge difference between these 2 teams and us as these teams were on the cusp of winning a World Series and did that to push them over. Yes, we still *could* get there, but it's a clear rush by us to make a "go for it" move. It has nothing to do with having the "stones". I'd say it took a lot of that to go get Yelich and then still sign Cain. The fact of the matter is that circumstances turned 2018 into a pretty lousy one for us to make an All-in move. This started with the Nelson injury, and we just don't have enough of an infusion of minor league talent this year, combined with many other injuries. You hate to use it as an excuse, but it has been devastating, particularly Nelson. In 2019, Nelson should be full go, you've got much larger inning targets for Peralta and Burnes, and Hiura is ready. I can see an aggressive move making a lot more sense at this time next year than it does right now. We're just not in that position yet. Not that we can't win this year, but we shouldn't be forcing moves to try. It's simply a year to see what we have and boost our chances as best we can with potential excess roster crunch talent.

What's kind of (not) funny is that Hader might actually end up unavailable on Friday because of his high pitch count in the AS game. At least Roberts did the right thing.

How do you know Machado puts them over the top? I don't for certain..but what I am 100% certain of is Manny would have given them a FAR better chance of putting them over the top THIS YEAR, than anyone they would have included in the trade..because it's probable not a single one of them is even on the MLB roster right now, or if they are..they are not major contributors. It's playing the odds, and in this instance..what they would have given up, had far less odds of being significant contributors to their success this year than Manny would have. It's that simple. Its really not that simple. If you ever land a GM job, I really hope you win a World Series your first year because you will run your franchise into the ground by year 2.

I don't even think that would do it. Perhaps Brewcrewin07 has developed the science to clone Corbin Burnes and Keston Hiura? Those seem to be the only guys other teams want. I like how these "prospects" are just unproven nothings, but yet presumably good enough to secure all of arguably the best starter, catcher, and SS in baseball.

Man you are coming off as really pechulant here with this. Did you have money on the crew getting him or what? Wait until the deadline passes to judge him as a GM this year. You can't say he made a bad move when nothing has been done yet. What if we get degrom because we passed up on Machado? What if we end up with realmuto? We have a couple weeks yet. Patience. What if they could have gotten all 3?? Heck, might as well add Syndergaard and Fulmer while we're at it. Does it really have to be explained why we couldn't have gotten all of DeGrom, Realmuto and Machado?

So Manny's first visit as a Dodger will be to Miller Park. I hope there aren't a bunch of dummies booing him like he has any say in the matter at all.

We were in this position last year and you wanted to "go for it" with Sonny Gray. 2 months of Manny Machado doesn't swing the balance of power in the division. Also, is that the end goal. Just...playoffs?

That sounds about right. Melvin was great if you were into one really exciting year followed by 3 to 4 excruciating mediocre years. I don't mean to sound like I'm badmouthing him, because he did a lot of good things for this franchise but I wasn't a fan of his style. It just wasn't a sustainable model for a team on a limited budget.

I've seen reports of of Logan Forsyth coming back to offset the money. Been reported since then though that he's not, all Minor leaguers going back to Baltimore.

No MLB team just spends more money for the simple fact that they can. Of course there is increased expectations and pressure that stem from their moves.
