  1. Attanasio needs to stay out of it.
  2. I'm not willing to spend the assets (not that I matter) to get all that offense so that we "might be able to get buy just fine". It isn't my job to find the right pieces, but if they don't improve the pitching why spend the capital? Then we might as well just stand pat. There isn't a sure fix out there for every problem we have, we are going to have to trust that some area of the team "might be able to get by just fine." I'd trust DJ.
  3. So I said *if*, twice, and that's still not good enough? Do you have inside medical information or sources that go beyond what the rest of us know? What is Stearns' reason for lying to us when he said he still expects Nelson to return this year?
  4. Well, I think Burnes will help a lot in the rotation. I think you could argue if he does, and if Nelson does come back in September, you might have something. Granted that's a lot of ifs but if we're scoring 6 runs a game we might be able to get by just fine. I just don't see any intriguing SP rentals at all. Happ isn't good. Hamels isn't good. I'd rather give Woodruff a chance than waste trade assets on any of these guys.
  5. If you really, really want to *go for it*, yet not give up the big 3 prospects or current MLB contributors, this would be my plan. Machado for Arcia, Ortiz and Phillips: This is a lot to give up including Arcia, but its probably the top offer. And its probably the only way to keep Burnes. Dubon can replace Arcia in 2019. Ramos for Ponce + Lara: Ramos is a straight rental. It's hard to argue the Rays can do better than this. Burnes to the MLB rotation, Peralta to the bullpen: Burnes is an MLB ready starter. Peralta, it's a necessary evil to controlling his innings to preserve use out of him all season. Hiura to MLB: If you're really truly going for it, and going after that big weakness which is the lineup, it's all hands on deck. 1) Cain 2) Yelich 3) Machado 4) Shaw 5) Aguilar 6) Thames 7) Ramos 8) Hiura
  6. I don't know about the rest of you but this losing streak has taken a lot of the fun out of the Machado thing for me.
  7. I take back what I said about lack of dead weight. Wilkerson and Orf are dead weight. I'm glad Orf got a shot and has a baseball to show his grandkids one day that he hit for a homerun at Miller Park as a professional ballplayer. But that's where it needs to end.
  8. I don't know how anyone is supposed to take any of these "rumors" seriously. This stuff changes from one person to the next almost minute to minute. And it doesn't change as much as it changes. Seriously, how many different ways have they said basically "Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, Diamondbacks, Indians, Brewers could all trade for Machado" in 100 new 'updates' in the last week?
  9. Rallies in the 9th that don't lead to victories mean nothing. Yep. I think we're sort of past the point of moral victories of being proud of them not quitting. They need to win a damn game.
  10. Maybe they should start making some rallies in the first 8 innings of the game before the game is out of reach anyway.
  11. What this team really needs is a man in a tux in the dugout playing a small violin after every time the Brewers are done batting.
  12. I said we'd take 1 out of 5 by splitting today. Looks like I overestimated them.
  13. 2 run deficit and we make the 1st out at 3rd. Brewer baseball.
  14. I agree. To clarify my point, the addition of two all-stars was supposed to fix what ailed this lineup, it hasn't. Now folks want to use more assets to acquire yet another all-star to take another stab at "fixing" the offense. How many all-stars are we going to need to acquire before the offense is actually good? Even if they could do that, the pitching still wouldn't be good enough and we are seeing that now. Do we deploy even more assets to fix the pitching as well? We obviously don't have the assets to do that which begs the question, why make any significant moves at that point? Starting pitching may not be our biggest weakness, but it is a weakness. This is why I think the guy in charge of hitting needs to be held at least partially culpable at some point. We made significant changes in the offseason intended to fix this offense, and we're still sitting at square one. Yes, this offense has weaknesses but going out and either trading for or spending 16M a year on a stud for every position isn't realistic. Coles has run his course.
  15. I'm not sure getting swept in a 5 game series is going to make a very convincing argument to Stearns to pursue Machado. For one thing Stearns isn't very prone to make a panic move in desperation and for another Stearns is probably going to think even harder about giving up significant prospects for a rental if he thinks that a play-in wild card game is the most likely best case scenario.
  16. Been 12 years since the last 5 game sweep in MLB for all you history buffs.
  17. I for one am absolutely shocked that guys who fluked their way to career years aren't repeating them and I will only blame the hitting coach for this. I even said in my post I'm sure a lot of this isn't on Coles, but you just think guys like Santana, Arcia, and Villar...just suck, or what?
  18. Also, this is somewhat contradictory to my comment on Perez, but Darrnell Coles deserves to lose his job. We didn't add Cain and Yelich to the roster for this. I know there have been injuries and blah blah blah, and I'm not saying this is all his fault, but at some point after years of underachieving the guy in charge needs to be held accountable.
  19. Good thing we made their pen work on Thursday, that really seems to be making a big difference late.
  20. Hand the umpire a lineup card that is so bad that Hernan Perez is your cleanup hitter, you deserve to score about 1 run. And so they did.
  21. I would hardly call this coasting. More like drunkenly stumbling.
