  1. Time to go enjoy the nice weather. Not doing this again today.
  2. Boy, Counsell is really reaching with these last couple review requests.
  3. Last night's pointless HR notwithstanding, Shaw has really hurt us over the last month or so.
  4. Over/under on "breakeven pitch" mentions in the next 7 hours: 15
  5. Whoa. I love Hiura as much as anyone else, and now that he’s getting prospect ranking bumps for mid-season reports, I know this is going to be a harder argument to make, but the guy has been dinged up, slumping (.264 batting avg at AA), and has only 124 ABs above the A-ball level. He ain’t walking through that door this year. I think we need to accept that Hiura might compete for the 2B job as early as next Spring if everything breaks right, but if we want him to help this year, he’ll have to get shipped out in a trade. I see no other way. Check out that box score from Biloxi last night, he's way above. 264 now.
  6. Thames and Guerra to DL, Orf recalled and Suter activated. So....who is our 26th man?
  7. So the Cubs are one out away from losing, and Brad Hand hits a batter and gives up a double to Rizzo to tie it. Fast forward to the 10th, Baez gets on via a weak grounder to 3rd, steals 2nd, and scores because of errors on both the catcher and centerfielder. Exactly the sort of thing that happens to the Brewers, because today hasn't been bad enough already. No idea what happens in the bottom of the 10th, I assume the Padres go down feebly, but I'm going to sleep. So long, 1st place.
  8. Hosmer is such crap. Hope the Padres enjoy paying for that dumb move for the next 8 years.
  9. Don't think Wilkerson is eligible to return. If not the only pitcher left to call up is Marcos Diplan. Who, conveniently, has not pitched since 7/8. No point in keeping Woodruff up, he will not be able to go again before the break. I think I just talked myself into wanting to send down Woodruff for Diplan tomorrow, why wouldn't you? Plus Diplan is presumably in Jacksonville, not Colorado, much easier trip to Pittsburgh.
  10. Was thinking the same exact thing. Get Thames on the DL and get Santana's butt on a plane first thing in the morning to Pittsburgh. Completely foolish if they willingly go into a doubleheader shorthanded. Logistically they may have a tough time getting someone from Colorado Springs to Pittsburgh by the first game. Second game shouldn't be a problem.
  11. Good news for those who want to see us at the top of the standings for one more day: Tyler Chatwalk is pitching for the Cubs. Bad news, Clayton Richard is pitching for the Padres.
  12. Yep. We were 5.5 up in the division at last year's break and it didnt come close to holding up. Barring some really substantial bad luck for the Cubs (significant injuries to Bryant, Baez, etc), I just have a hard time seeing any scenario where our Central lead is going to hold up after 162 games. Should be interesting in the Wild Card race, though.
  13. I don't even think he wanted to, to the umpire's credit I think they checked it themselves just to make sure. Why not. Maybe a foot came off or something, you don't want a game to end on a missed call. In the end clearly out but didn't hurt to look.
  14. Then maybe Arcia should be hitting over the Mendoza line and putting up something substantially better than a .482 OPS. If he was, there wouldn't even be a Machado thread.
  15. Bad starting pitching, bad hitting. Just bad baseball. Not very much fun to watch right now.
  16. I'm one of the people who has called for Nottingham to get a shot, but the guy really seems to have a hole in his bat on some really hittable pitches.
  17. Been pretty disappointed with how Barmes has progressed. When he first came up in 2016, looking at his stuff, he looked like our closer by 2018. Just hasn't happened. Prone to big innings and walks, just can't seem to get over that hump of mediocrity. Not bad, but not good either.
  18. Seems to be how it goes for us lately, just can't get that last big hit when we need it.
  19. Nice outing for Woodruff. I can't understand why this guy can't get a chance. He's young, he was a top 100 prospect, he has good stuff, he's done fantastic for the Sky Sox this year. It's not like his MLB numbers are a disaster, and it's not like there are 5 better options keeping him back.
  20. Couple solos....be great if we had someone on board for one of these.
  21. Sorry, I don't think you'll find any era in the IGT history where it wasn't this way -- I'd argue it's worse when the team is competitive. When they're in a swoon, people are much more easily able to detach from day to day wins or losses. There's really no emotion. Right now, there is.
  22. Yelich is like Geoff Jenkins. I have no idea why he's revered on here. That's a big insult to Jenkins's arm. Jenkins had a cannon. I remember being at MP for a game and on a deep fly ball to RF that looked like a sure sac fly he threw a frozen rope that hit the catcher's mitt in the only spot it could have been to tag the runner just as he arrived for the out. It was awesome.
  23. Sometimes I find it really hard to balance. It's such a long season and every team goes through their peaks and valleys, but I also think that the 2014 collapse really did a number on me. I would say we have a ton more talent than that team did, but I'll never forget the frustration of watching it slip away bit by bit. It's tough. I've been watching this team for 30 years. So even though its irrational (different players, era) I always have a nagging doubt in the back of my mind, no matter whether we're first in the NL or last. I don't know if it's just remaining guarded or what, but after so much history of failure its just hard to get rid of that feeling that it's the Brewers and they'll let you down in the end.
