  1. And now that the Marlins have the lead we can't touch Straily.
  2. It's the dilemma of patience with young arms versus the position that we're in where we want to make the playoffs and win now. Woodruff has probably the same or better upside as Peralta, but we're not willing to be patient enough to give him the whole year in the MLB rotation and leave him alone. If it was 2016, we probably would.
  3. Or just let him do it Craig, whatever. If he is an untouchable prospect the minimum expectation is that he should be able to throw strikes to the opposing pitcher. We kind of tend to overrate the heck out of Peralta here as a prospect. His numbers are fantastic but we've churned out lots of guys who put up elite numbers for 8-10 starts before the league catches up to them (Fiers, Jungmann, just to name two). Peralta could end up being the real deal but we have really jumped the gun on him acting as though he's a top 50 prospect value now.
  4. I can't think of someone I like less here than Barnes. Prone to walks himself, and usually gas on a fire when brought in with runners on. Hope I'm wrong.
  5. You really need to go get him before he walks the pitcher for a run.
  6. Jenkins and Hart were the other winners. Don't know who the losers were.
  7. I couldn't help but wonder to myself, "Would Keon have caught it?"
  8. Likely. Maybe Lopez as a secondary piece. Barnes can't have much value right now. Lopez is still young enough to have theoretical upside. I can never keep track of whether Lopez is even on the 25 man or not.
  9. What players would the Orioles have interest in that they could realistically get from the Brewers in a trade for Machado? Thames, Perez, and Villar are the few that stand out to me. Thames probably makes the most sense since the Orioles could really use a first baseman. My guess would be Nottingham. Maybe Taylor Williams too? Don't think we'd like to trade him.
  10. I really don't think Aguilar's roster spot is going to be too much in question next spring.
  11. Speaking of Keston hype, would be nice to see him snap out of this soon. Oof.
  12. If there's one good thing that came out of HighHeat, it's that we all learned a good lesson in being skeptical of internet noise and that reputation is important.
  13. So you basically want Manny Machado only still with the elite glove at SS.
  14. I honestly think you'd have to start with Hiura + Burnes + Peralta to get the Mets to waver on their stance, and even then I'm not totally sure that they don't just stand pat.
  15. Agreed with you guys that Burnes is off limits for a rental, even one as good as Machado. Also agree that I'd be open to the 3rd piece. Maybe Diplan? That would create room on the 40 as well. I think Woodruff OR Ortiz + Phillips + Diplan would probably be my best offer.
  16. I'm sure this is true. I just don't think there's any way we are going to offer them anything in the vicinity of what would be considered a "knockdown offer."
  17. I have wondered about that too. Its Manny freaking Machado, and it's also 2018. Surely every team has access to film every second he's on the field if he so much as picks his nose. I admittedly know basically nothing about scouting but is there really something more than all of that that they can get in person?
  18. With Freddy Peralta, assuming 150 is the magic shutdown number (120 last year), he's well on his way to hitting it before the end of the regular season. He is already at almost 93. Burnes' situation is much more manageable, especially given his current role in the pen. He's at about 80 innings and could presumably throw 170-175 this season -- I'd probably guess 170 is the limit of their comfort zone with him. But he could certainly stay in the pen indefinitely, and even as a starter still probably help the team late in the year and potentially even in the postseason. So what's the best solution here? Start cutting Freddy off at 5 innings, skipping his starts, having Peralta and Burnes switch roles at some point with Freddy spending the rest of the year in the pen and Burnes getting stretched back out for the rotation?
  19. Wilkerson is a guy I think they probably want to hang onto especially if they plan on trading Woodruff. Kratz really needs to pick it up before Pina gets back if he doesn't want to be a 40 casualty. The easy decision is to option Nottingham, but it could get a lot harder. I agree there's not much dead weight on the 40. Fortunately for everyone, there's already an open spot for Miley and Nelson is still far off. I'd say Asher's seat is probably hottest. Orf could probably afford to step up a bit.
  20. Disappointed to see Kratz back in there. What would Nottingham have had to do to earn another start?
