  1. Here's the link to that article: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/07/7-teams-have-made-offers-for-manny-machado.html It also states that contrary to previously stated information that the Dodgers have not offered either of Verdugo or Alvarez yet. The article implies that we have made the 3rd best offer for Machado behind the Dodgers and DBacks but states all offers are very close.
  2. I think the writing is on the wall for numerous moves in the next 24 hours. Cain is almost certain to return so that means one move for sure. Broxton going back down is logical, but they could DL Braun if they think it's going to be an ongoing lingering thing especially since he hasn't been playing well anyway. It would be odd to PH him in a 4 run game and then DL him, though. Wilkerson was likely to go back down anyway after today. It just doesn't make much sense to keep him up. Lopez went 2 innings, so if history follows suit he usually goes back down after such a game. I would have thought that means Houser returns tomorrow, but he pitched as scheduled for Colorado Springs tonight, so that's probably out. I can't fathom that Zagurski is still on the 40 man roster tomorrow. But I wouldn't have imagined he'd get a second chance so I have no idea at this point. I'll be trying to connect the dots after the Sky Sox game tonight but all I can conclude so far is that Houser isn't coming up. Asher seems really unlikely too after going 6 yesterday. So besides Cain I'd say that Woodruff seems like he's coming up tomorrow, with any of Burnes, Ramirez, or Torres-Costa having a very good chance of having their contract selected for the 40 man tomorrow.
  3. Because managers rarely warm up their best RP and don't use them in the game. Why would he warm him up while down 2-0 and refuse to use him down 2-1, that would make no sense at all the way most managers run their bullpens. Well, that's what happened, because Counsell confirmed it was simply his decision not to use Hader because we were losing.
  4. Nationals better be eating a lot of salary if we're sending back Hiura, because that's the only way we can afford it. If as the OP proposed, the Nats aren't taking salary, we can't afford it. Braun is still on the books here through 2020. It's an interesting line of thought here, I just don't think there's any way Scherzer becomes close to available. I think the Nats are still really good odds to win the East, and even if they don't, they won't know that by the deadline.
  5. I'm curious to see if Ramirez or Torres-Costa pitches for the Sky Sox tonight. I honestly think there's a decent chance one gets selected tomorrow in a Zagurski DFA move. Torres-Costa is probably the better pitcher, but that makes the choice tougher if they pick him and it doesn't work out. Ramirez is like the Nate Orf of relief pitchers.
  6. Staying true and consistent to our "2 runs or less 40% of the time" stat.
  7. Why does our plate approach as a team when we are down multiple runs with no one on base generally call for even less patience and more hacking than usual? Wouldn't you logically want, you know, the opposite? I get it if the bases are loaded and you're down 4 with 2 out, but no one on?
  8. I've been an advocate of Hader in the pen but honestly the way he is used you might as well just stretch him out and make him into one of your starters. If all you're going to get out of him is 2-3 innings every 4 games you might as well get 5-6 out of him every 5.
  9. He was warming up earlier. I'm sure they would not have him warming up if he has some minor injury. They wouldn't have him warming up and not use him there either. He very easily could have felt something while warming up. That would make this all make 100% complete sense to me. Why would it surprise you that they would have him warming up and not use him? Counsell seldom ever uses Hader when trailing.
  10. He was warming up earlier. I'm sure they would not have him warming up if he has some minor injury.
  11. It's incredible to me that a 35 year old with a career ERA over 7 not only got added to the 40, not only got added to the 25, not only got predictably lit up in his first game but actually received a second chance to be predictably lit up again. For a front office that normally pulls the right strings, they got way too cute with Zagurski while Ramirez and Torres-Costa continue to waste away in Colorado Springs.
  12. Great job Counsell. Took a 2-1 game and put it out of reach completely unnecessarily. A shame for those who bought tickets today.
  13. Counsell's pen management the last 2 games has been absolutely atrocious.
  14. Got one. That was by far the most productive AB of the day. Scored a run and knocked Sanchez out of the game.
  15. I see no reason Sanchez isn't going 9 shutout. Good grief with this.
  16. Something tightened up on him pregame. Ripken's streak is safe.
  17. I don't blame Hughes as much as I blame Garrett for walking the first two hitters in the 8th with a 3 run lead. Absolutely terrible.
  18. Offense was about due for one of those days where they do absolutely nothing at all. Scoreless in 10 straight innings.
  19. Why does Kratz play so much? He is so bad. At least Pina offers defense.
  20. Aguilar may never see a more hittable pitch in his lifetime than the first one he saw from Sanchez. Straight, 88, right down the middle.
  21. The last guy you'd expect to stare at strike 3. Tough to come away with nothing that inning.
  22. Well Wilkerson is close to toast, but at least the score didn't get out of hand.
