  1. Not likely to end well when you start off an inning giving up a rocket single to an AL pitcher.
  2. I feel like someone reports that we are basically connected to every single name out there every offseason and trade deadline.
  3. We don’t have a farm system capable of landing a TOR guy unless Hiura is part of the deal. Depth doesn’t matter when you are trading for controllable stars, it’s top prospects that do. Then I think you don't really understand our farm system very well. Peralta has been skyrocketing up prospect rankings with every good start. Sure he had 1 bad one recently, but at the same time he showed great composure bouncing back from a rough 1st inning of bloop hits to keep us in the game. Peralta should probably be a top 50 prospect at the update and he's mlb ready, if he was in a big market he'd be top 25. Hiura won't be THAT far ahead of Peralta in prospect rankings, and Peralta is a pitcher which generally has more value...especially given he's MLB ready. Peralta with good secondary pieces could definitely headline a deal for Degrom or Syndergaard. They've already had multiple recent updates (both Pipeline and Baseball America) and Peralta has been anywhere from very low top 100 to outside the top 100. You're overrating him considerably. He isn't in Hiura's tier as a prospect, and no he is not a good enough headliner for DeGrom or Syndergaard assuming all the secondary pieces are weaker. I love Freddy Peralta, but he is not the first pitcher to make his debut in the bigs and come out with 3 great starts in his first 5. If Peralta is such an elite pitching prospect that he can headline a deal for a controlled ace, why on earth are we not talking about building around him instead of trading him?
  4. No question about it. Hiura is going to part of any deal for a controllable TOR type. That is seriously short-sighted thinking. Hiura or bust, no GM is that closed-minded. Keep in mind especially with Degrom, we are getting 2.5 years of control for likely over $30 million. It's not like this incredible bargain contract. Market value is maybe $25 million per year at best, and we'll be paying $12-18 million per year depending on arbitration. Yes it probably is a bargain contract, but not as team-friendly as some of you make it seem. The payroll alone, especially in the last year, will be an obstacle for bringing in talent or retaining talent. Syndergaard may not be as expensive on a per year basis as we get more team control and the early years to dilute the expensive years, and his significant injury history also drives down his value. That's part of why his value is so difficult to evaluate. Should he be valued as a top 5 pitcher in baseball, or a guy that may pitch 90 good innings a year for you if you're lucky? It doesn't matter how we value him. It matters how the Mets value him. Why on earth would the Mets trade Syndergaard if they get a bunch of mediocre offers that value him as a guy that may pitch 90 good innings a year for you? They wouldn't.
  5. I have to admit I find it a little bit amusing that when someone like Broxton has a big blowup game like the other day, we hear things like "Oh boy. This really speaks to our depth. What a luxury it is to have a 20/20 guy to bring up when you get injuries." Then when the offense is silent the next couple games it becomes, "Well, whadayah expect? Everybody's hurt!"
  6. I have no problem using Lutz as a trade piece, and he definitely has good value, but he got off to a terrible start this year and hasn't torn up A ball in a way that would significantly enhance his trade value right now. He's a guy who might be a significantly more valuable piece a year from now, and thus probably a better hold than sell candidate.
  7. I generally think you discount our other prospects more than they should be, that said...it's possible. It's hard to know what they are specifically looking for. If the Mets do demand Hiura and don't end up budging, then it's simply not meant to be in my opinion. Regarding the article, it seemed to me that the yankees package was much much lighter than the other 3 packages. Considering it's a NY article, that's not surprising. I like Corbin Burnes and Freddy Peralta and other high prospects. If you think I discount them based on saying that they definitely aren't good enough to headline a deal for a true ace controlled pitcher like DeGrom or Thor, then guilty, I discount them. There's just not a deal to be had on them without Hiura at least realistically unless you start including MLB pieces which would be counterproductive.
  8. Minor league system rankings ultimately don’t mean anything. Not all that long ago we had the top ranked system. What it got us was one WC and one division title and NLCS appearance. And both only happened because trades prospects for established pitchers. I get that as a small market team we have to build from within. But we can’t overvalue our prospects to the point where we refuse to move any of them. We can’t be afraid to take risks. If we do what will happen is that many of these prospects we are putting so much faith in will flame out and get is nothing. No championship. No trade return. Nothing. We currently have a team that is not only competing but also has almost all of the key pieces under control for years. What we don’t have though is that shutdown pitcher who can consistently stop losing streaks and can shoulder the load in the playoffs. And then what happened after we made those deals for those players? As soon as those players left, the Brewers became a middling team with no real chance to win moving forward. And trading away young piitching and middle of the order bats who play up the middle is a huge risk as well. Agreed. I think your argument kind of works against you here, Paul. That 1 WC and 1 division title came after numerous sacrifices made to the top rated farm system you are speaking of. It didn't come as a result of organically building from the farm, we don't know what the result would have been.
  9. Its hard to peg exactly where Arcia's value falls at the moment after a nightmare of a season for him so far. Regardless, there's absolutely no way the Mets are accepting a package from us for Thor nor DeGrom that doesn't include Keston Hiura.
  10. Uh, we have a lead in the division. It's July. The Cubs are in 2nd place. So, you're saying for fans to concede the division and some Miller Park Cubs tickets (good money, though)? I prefer trying, caring, and believing a bit more. No, that's not the point. The point is it's totally pointless to scoreboard watch in July much less hang on every single Cubs game.
  11. Jared Hughes was pretty good for us last year and has a 1.27 ERA for the year in 42+ innings. Probably not a great call to let him walk for nothing. Would look pretty good at the back end of our pen instead of the junk we have.
  12. 3 series' in a row now that started out extremely promising for the first half and ended with a giant fart in the second half.
  13. We have one guy in the pen with a 135 ERA and one guy with an era of Infinity.
  14. Might as well let Wilkerson eat the rest of this game now.
  15. He's been shut down for an hour at this point and won't be coming back in. Was pinch hit for anyway, wasn't he?
  16. From the man that got after me for just wanting a hit the other night, this was hard to read. Lots of game left. Pen is in really rough shape right now and we play 21 games in 20 days with none off until the AS break. 'The other night' we were down 1 run, not 3, at home, and still had a healthy Cain and Yelich. Just saying to get the entire day off for the pen in this brutal long stretch for a game we have probably a 10% chance of winning at the moment, would not be the worst thing in the world.
  17. Probably best if this thing ends up getting called early and our pen gets the day off. I have zero confidence in getting 4 runs in 3+ innings from this offense.
  18. The only thing that keeps Perez off the radar is that we usually carry one or two other guys who are craptastically worse. Perez I agree would be fine as a 25th guy, I agree, problem is we want him to be more.
  19. If anyone can make the atrocious Matt Harvey look like an ace again, it's our offense.
  20. Honest question, how did everyone feel about Brinson compared to Hiura? Because they are very similar in prospect rankings. Me personally, I was ok with trading Brinson. I saw some upside but I also saw some big red flags and felt that his value may start dropping dramatically this season if we didn't make a move now. Injury concerns were at the top of my list. I just felt there was a high bust possibility with Brinson, and I realize it's far too early to say that has happened. Hiura, I would have a little tougher time with. I know the elbow is a concern but the bat looks about as real as a tool can be and it looks even better with him being a middle infielder. I'm already mentally preparing myself for the strong chance that his career won't be here. I could stomach it more easily if we had a second deal in place for someone like Mayfield.
  21. Thank you for the info. I never even realized you had to have a guy on the 25 man in order to 60 day and clear a spot for another call up. Strike one on me. Looking at the 40 man again, what is our deal with Nick Franklin? I feel like the presence of Miller and Saladino make him an obvious casualty as well? Are we not able to transfer him to give us room for someone who can help? This info should complete my lesson on the 60 day DL and how it is handled.. That's why Nick Franklin made out like a bandit. Sitting in AA collecting a paltry salary, somehow gets added to the 40 and called up out of the blue, takes like 4 innings to get hurt, and has been collecting a full MLB paycheck in the 2 months since then. It's easy to forget he's actually still on the 10 day.
