  1. I'd be willing to assume that an inconsistent offense has cost us more games than a guy who won't participate in 80% of games is going to be able to help with. If you're willing to 'go for it' with DeGrom, better find a way to fix that lineup, especially since Hiura won't be here and we have no other offensive help coming up soon in the system.
  2. Agree completely. That counseling we’ve been attending is working out nicely. This is my feeling on this as well. Attack with numbers. Young controlled players for many seasons. Plus...Peralta may be the real deal. I understand its only 4 starts at this level, but this guy has been dominating hitters since the start of 2017 and just keeps getting better. I understand he's going to be on an innings limit this year and we'll just have to deal with that, but we're past the point of him being a second piece in a big deal and more to a point of needing to see what we might have with this guy.
  3. Broxton is fine as an injury fill in . You're not going to replace Lorenzo Cain, no one in this system is. Hopefully Broxton can have some success this week and in AAA when he goes back down eventually because he is out of options after 2018 and pretty much needs to be traded this time around in the offseason and it would be nice to get something for him.
  4. Like most others I think, I believe we can acquire DeGrom, but believe we cannot do so without sending Keston Hiura. I'm not willing to trade nearly 6+ seasons of that bat for that. Especially giving up 6+ seasons of Peralta too. I understand why some people are, but I wouldn't. Maybe if Hiura were an outfielder, I'd feel differently, but I'm not giving up that bat at 2B. I'm not necessarily a believer that an 'ace' is a big game changer for us the way that many do. Obviously it would be great to have, but I think if you're expecting us to pull away from the Cubs if we acquire DeGrom you'll be disappointed. For 2019, give me Hiura at 2nd, a healthy Jimmy Nelson and 180 innings of Freddy Peralta, I'll take my chances with that.
  5. brewers have inquired about dietrich from the marlins. I doubt Hura will be on our team since it is most likely he gets traded for a ace. Defrom from the Mets would cost Hura and freddy or our second prospect. That would give us a solid ace over the next several years. We also can keep everyone and get deitrich. That would send sogard away for good. Although I wouldnt be surprised if Counsel continues to keep Sogard around for his jokes. It is not the most likely scenario that Hiura gets traded for an ace.
  6. Cautionary note on Andrus: he receives a full no-trade clause if traded, and his $15M option in 2023 becomes a player option. So you better really like him at 5/$73M after this year to do that, and you almost have to have a deal lined up to trade Arcia to someone else.
  7. Serious? Cain 5th? Gimme a break. Cain by a fair margin in my opinion. I don't have a problem with Aguilar first, but yeah. Cain is way too low and having Chacin 2nd but Guerra who has been better in pretty much every way at 6th doesn't make sense to me.
  8. Calling Hiura up in September just to PH once a day would be a total waste of his service time. If he comes up, he plays every day basically, and sooner than September.
  9. And that's that. Wily Peralta slams the door in our face. Would have been nice to get it to Aguilar.
  10. They did. Well they tried him as a pen guy but he sucked so it was pretty hard to put him at the back end.
  11. Perez, Broxton, Pina, Arcia, Pitcher. You aren't going to win many games with that lineup. True enough. But they've been pretty underwhelming offensively even at full strength.
  12. How bad would this offense be if they had forced out Aguilar to make room for Braun at 1st in spring training as was widely expected?
  13. Pretty disappointing to not win back to back series at home, especially with the second series being against baseball's worst team.
  14. Villar just isn't that good and isn't going to ever give you that shot in the arm the offense needs. He isn't a disaster but he isn't someone you want starting. This year he had an opportunity to show whether 2016 or 2017 was the aberration. We have our answer. His stats are almost identical in every way to 2017.
  15. 1 - Not much more you can say about Freddy. It's a bummer he's going to have to be on an innings limit but we'd be wise to benefit from all the innings he has left to give up here. 2 - Good to see that the world kept turning after a near full game of Brad Miller at SS. 3 - I like Braun/Yelich/Thames with Aguilar at 1st in the absence of Cain. Bummer not having Cain but the depth certainly helps here. 4 - Hader had I think 34 straight appearances with a K, 15 short of Chapman's record of 49. Given how he's usually used I think he could have gotten it. I totally understand you can't manage a game for records but kind of a bummer seeing it end that way.
  16. I'd probably give it to Hader. The Brewers have a ridiculous record in games he pitches in. The bullpen is the only elite unit on the team and he's the best of them.
  17. I don't think they would be promoting Hiura to the 40 man unless they intended to carry him on the 25 most of the rest of 2018. But if we need to worry about Hiura being out of options in 2021, his bat didn't come along as well as we'd hoped.
  18. My guess based on Counsell saying he doesn't think it'll require a DL stint followed by 2 days of Shaw not going on the DL is that it won't require a DL stint at all, unless a move is on the horizon in the next few hours that we just haven't heard about yet.
  19. Holding onto Keston has nothing to do with a desire to have a top ranked farm system. It has to do with losing 6-7 years of control over a possibly game changing bat at 2nd. Yes, the goal is a World Series. This offense is not currently good enough to win a World Series. DeGrom and Syndergaard do nothing to fix a feast or famine offense that has been shut out double digit times and held to 2 or less runs in over 40% of their games.
  20. Context is important. In 2017, the White Sox tried to change Saladino's swing. Prior to that he had a respectable .725 OPS and 8 HR in 319 PAs in 2016. Given that he went back to that swing I'd guess he'll be closer to his 2016 than '17. Saladino is a better and more versatile defender. Miller gives you the lefty bat. So yeah, once Saladino is back Sogard doesn't have a role and that's a good thing.
  21. Yes it would count as service time. And you need to be on the 40 man roster before you can be called up.
  22. Saladino might end up being a flash in the pan too, but he's 4 years younger than Sogard, is a proven much better defender than Sogard, and unlike Sogard, can hit a baseball more than 300 feet. Not a difficult choice.
  23. Is the horse and buggy transporting Domingo Santana to Colorado Springs set to arrive tomorrow?
  24. I was a big Broxton fan coming into last year and I do still think he has value. But he was always someone who was going to need to at least cut his K rate to somewhere around 30% to really have a shot to break out. Unfortunately, the K's are still there in AAA and his other numbers aren't really impressive enough for Colorado Springs to be banging on the door here again. To be fair, Phillips isn't doing anything either. If they want to call up an outfielder, between Phillips, Broxton and Santana it really makes no difference to me who it is.
  25. But -- again -- I didn't start out using the Cubs as an example. I started out using the Phillies as an example because I wanted to use a comparable offense for data, then even compared us to the 2 worst offenses to show we STILL have a higher percentage of 2 or less run games.
