  1. The little things. Perez does a poor job getting a tag down and it's a 3-2 deficit instead of a 2-1 lead.
  2. Perez needs to do a better job getting that tag down. That should have been an out.
  3. Cubs blew a 5 run lead and now trail the Reds 7-6 with the Reds still threatening. Crooked hat Pedro Strop getting completely shelled.
  4. Something Counsell needs to answer to if he had Shaw in there playing hurt today and made it worse.
  5. Hopefully nothing too concerning but obviously not a good thing to start seeing our best players drop to injuries on back to back days.
  6. Shaw seems like he could be the one needing a day off, has looked quite bad since the first game of the series. What was he looking for there?
  7. Villar is fine at 2nd. I don't think his defensive metrics are flukey. Comparing his career defensive performance as a SS and 3B to his 2B defense is apples and oranges. That said, we could use an upgrade at 2nd, but it isn't because of defense.
  8. The problem with a pitch clock is that it's going to be a huge deal because it's going to be such a massive change to some pitchers to disrupt their entire rhythm that it could end up affecting careers and be wildly opposed by the MLBPA. I agree that most dead time is between pitches, I just don't know how you would go about the pitch clock. Maybe the best way would be to grandfather every player with MLB service time in now and now draw the line in the sand and say everyone from this point has a pitch clock. Then everyone it across the board in the minors and all the up and coming pitchers can become accustomed to it. It would take years before you'd start to see the real changes from it but it would be about the only way to do it without creating sudden chaos in a season.
  9. My best guess is that the Marlins insist on Hiura from us and if the answer is no they hold and wait. But it doesn't hurt to make a fair offer. Spitballing here, but I wonder what kind of value the Marlins would put on Arcia.
  10. Pretty ugly looking lineup today. But our "A" lineup has produced 2 runs in back to back games so we'll see what happens.
  11. The more I think about it I just don't know if the Marlins will do Realmuto without Hiura. The Nationals had inquired and their GM said they knew what it would take and weren't willing to meet that price. In that case you would think it's got to be Soto or Robles they want. The only prospect we have close to that is Hiura.
  12. I just find it kind of odd that people complain about too many K's, but most people love K pitchers. Do you really want less Chris Sales and Josh Haders and more Kyle Lohses? Don't think that's a big part of the excitement problem.
  13. I'd almost double down and get Hiura up here to join Realmuto in the lineup. 1) Cain 2) Yelich 3) Realmuto 4) Shaw 5) Aguilar 6) Thames 7) Hiura 8) Miller/Saladino That seems like it might be an okay lineup.
  14. I'd really like to get Realmuto, yeah. He is just getting tougher and tougher to acquire. If there's any chance of getting him without Hiura, yeah, I think you'd unfortunately need to center it around Burnes and Peralta. Realmuto is just too good and has too much control left for the Marlins to let him go easy. I'm not totally sure you could get him without Hiura, but I think I'd draw the line there. I could maybe stomach trading Hiura if we had a good other option as our 2B of the future -- unfortunately we do not. I'd try to substitute Woodruff for Peralta. So I think my offer would be Burnes + Woodruff + Ray + Erceg. If they insisted on Peralta instead of Woodruff, I'd pull the trigger. If it still wasn't enough, I'd move on to other options. That's a good offer even without Hiura and would as high as I'd be willing to go. And it would hurt, but you're not going to get Realmuto without it hurting. It's probably similar in value to what we gave up for Yelich and I expect it to be.
  15. It seems both alarming and that is likely a product of an offense that has such a wide gap between the producers and non-producers. Miller should help. I'm not totally going to discount the possibility of Hiura being a second half callup if they feel his glove his ready. He'd be an instant offensive upgrade at 2nd. Catcher, I can't understand why they won't give someone like Nottingham or Bethancourt a shot at extended time. Of course Jett Bandy is raking now. Realmuto is obviously the possible prize acquisition, question is at what price. As an aside, I wasn't nuts about the way Counsell managed the bench today. As far as I'm concerned, if Eric Sogard comes to the plate as your last hope in a 1 run 9th inning game, which he would have if Pina didn't GIDP first -- you screwed up.
  16. We have scored 2 runs or less in nearly 40% (29) of our games this year. I don't know. That just feels...alarming. Maybe I'm wrong.
  17. Sucks that Molina was the one to kill us today. Jeffress has been so good this year, wish the offense could have picked him up. Would be disappointing to come out of this series with a split tomorrow.
  18. Killed one third of our innings today with GIDPs. That won't cut it.
  19. Kratz was a cool story for a week or two. But in the end he's probably going to end up looking exactly how one would expect a nearly 40 year old journeyman backup catcher to look.
