  1. Just out of curiosity, why would his playing career be irrelevant? He obviously had enough athletic ability to make it to the Major Leagues. But he was a below average Major League hitter. If he was unable to develop himself as a hitter, when he had every motivation in the world to do so (his financial future depended on his ability to play the game), what makes anybody think that he can develop others as hitters? What has Darnell Coles shown that convinces anybody he's the answer? What raw talent has he developed into a top flight hitter? The Brewers are 6th in the NL in OPS so they seem to be doing just fine. More generally, I just don't buy the anecdotal evidence. For every Gennett there was a Chris Carter. Arcia is younger than Brinson who has a .512 OPS with Miami. I honestly don't know if Coles is doing a good job or not but since the offense is above average it's hard to make a solid case against him. Guys like Shaw and Aguilar have been great with the Brewers after never accomplishing much elsewhere. The Brewers have been below average in runs scored every year of Coles' tenure, never higher than 20th. Chris Carter is an odd example in Coles'' favor as he was basically the same exact one trick pony for the Brewers as he was for his entire career anywhere.
  2. No, but it is a must that we start beating the Cubs more than 1 out of every 9 games.
  3. Albers doesn't need to go, but he's been very bad lately. There was no reason not to go with Jeffress for one more inning. This was a game you needed to try to win at all costs by this point. Taylor Williams was also available who has been fantastic lately. The dominance in this rivalry by the Cubs is what will be putting them in first tonight. Just pitiful performances time and time again everytime we see the opposing Cubs jerseys.
  4. Of course the first time in 2018 that we lose when Josh Hader pitches would come against the Chicago Cubs. Of course it would. Not making the catch to double off Zobrist. Not getting Perez around when he led off the inning with a double. Just like it was in Game 3 in Philly, little things cost us again, and we won't compete for the division losing games like this.
  5. Who would you have brought in? I completely assumed they were sticking with JJ another inning. He had a reasonably light 10th and his spot didn't come up.
  6. We'll be lucky to beat them 4 times over the course of this entire season, much less in one 7 game series.
  7. And we remain the Cubs' lap dogs this season. Just pathetic.
  8. Great call, Counsell. Albers has been a total trash can lately.
  9. Santana and Arcia can both head to Colorado Springs for awhile for all I care. Would rather have Miller and whoever than the total junk we're getting daily from them.
  10. Could not have made it much easier for the Cubs' pen there, boys.
  11. He's had a few days off. He's not done for the series. Again, no he hasn't. He pitched the day before yesterday. He had one day off and has pitched 2 out of the last 3 games.
  12. Cubs have same situation with their pen too. Plus, wouldn't surprise me if Hader and/or Knebel are still available tomorrow. Knebel could still be available. Don't see it for Hader. He also threw an inning on Saturday. Don't see them pitching him 3 out of 4 days.
  13. Which could still get into their heads regardless, when you're losing to one team at a 90% clip (if they lose).
  14. Quit yapping Almora. I appreciate an ump that can still make the right call just because the catcher doesn't catch it where he spotted it.
  15. Welp, that was an anticlimactic 9th, now we get the meat of the Cubs order again. Yay.
  16. We burned out Hader for 3 days to get here, we can't leave with nothing to show for it. Come on offense...
  17. I don't know if the Cubs have a "For the love of God, don't swing" sign but if there was ever a time to create that sign, that at bat by Baez was it. We need to draw one of those up for every AB against Chatwood tomorrow.
  18. I figured that point would have come when Schwarber was up 3-1 with the bases loaded.
  19. Not one of Knebel's first 5 pitches this inning have been anywhere near the zone. Thanks, Baez.
  20. Really bad throw by Cain that Villar tried to rush a tag on and didn't complete the catch. Zobrist had no business tagging up on that play but with Cain's poor arm I guess they were just trying to be aggressive. Should have been an easy out if either player had done their job. You have got to be watching a completely different game than me.
