  1. Arcia is a bad hitter but most 8-hole hitters are. I’d want to get that guy out so you can lead the next inning off with the pitcher. That’s the smart play pretty much all the time and definitely early in the game. Unless you've got a total albatross of a hitter or a really good hitting pitcher I disagree. It's not worth risking the run just to leadoff the pitcher the next inning. Chacin pretty clearly pitched around Gimenez in the 2nd to face Montgomery which was the right call.
  2. 2 innings of a runner on 3rd and 1 out and nothing to show for it. Frustrating.
  3. You know you're a very bad hitter when you're up with 2 outs and a runner in scoring position with the pitcher on deck and they have absolutely no desire to pitch around you.
  4. The wild hacking of Hernan Perez finally pays off.
  5. Quit barking Montgomery. You were up there begging for Ball 4 and that pitch had more than enough of the plate.
  6. Have to be taking advantage of those opportunities.
  7. Come on Braun. Way too overanxious there with a runner on 3rd and 1 out.
  8. I still think you are vastly underestimating the kind of market that these guys would initiate if made available. We can't just throw Hiura, Burnes, and Peralta at the Mets and call it a day. The Braves could dangle Acuna out there. The Nationals could dangle Robles or Soto out there. The Phillies could center something around Sanchez. These are elite prospects, and maybe we could get lucky with those all being NL East teams and maybe the Mets would be hesitant to deal in the division, but there are other teams that could beat our offer, and the only way to one up them would be to offer up Hader which just isn't helpful. I don't think the Mets are serious about dealing Syndergaard at all. Degrom, maybe, but even that they don't need to do it unless someone meets their price. They'll need to be blown away. It'll take a Quintana package, not a Sonny Gray package. So since we don't have an Eloy Jimenez quality prospect, you're probably talking Hiura + Burnes + Peralta + Ray to get it done. It's a farm gutting move. It would have to be. I don't think Stearns was too passive at the deadline. He dealt for Walker, he dealt for Swarzak, and these were helpful moves. He set his price point for Quintana and Sonny Gray, and didn't panic when the bidding got too high. And thank goodness he didn't, because I'd like this roster a whole lot less with Sonny Gray on it and Christian Yelich off it.
  9. Guerra hasn’t been enough ace for ya? Guerra has been great, but his success doesn't eliminate the need we have for Chase to get back to who he was. Either Chase getting back to who he was or Nelson returning to 2017 form would be enormous for our chances this year. Guerra has been great and Chacin has been good, but we need more than those two.
  10. There's something to be said for the bolded. You're basically playing the stock market here. Hold too long and they might end up worth nothing. Or they might increase their value tenfold. Usually, we've timed it right. Brinson looks like a good sell right now. Segura, not so much but for getting Chase Anderson and a big trade piece in the Yelich deal, I won't complain too much. Some think Arcia just will never be a good hitter, some just think with how young he is, maybe we won't see that until he's 26, 27. My question is -- does it matter? I don't care when Arcia peaks -- I care how much the Milwaukee Brewers will be able to benefit from it and how much of a hit we'll have to take until then. If Arcia is going to be a .600 OPS player until his age 26 season, then jump to .700 at 26 and. 750 at 27 (just for an example), that is not a very cost-efficient wait for us. Arcia will be in his later arbitration years by then and nearing free agency. And we have no idea how competitive we'll be then compared to now. So there's certainly a rational argument to be made that getting a bird in the hand in something productive for Arcia now is better than waiting several years in the hopes of him improving. And frankly I have no idea how much his trade value has already suffered from this season. It can't have helped.
  11. Nice. Kaycee Sogard might be the best ballplayer in the Sogard household.
  12. Albers is going to be fine, eventually. He was very good for the first 2 months this season and will be very good again. Frankly, we need to do a better job recognizing when guys in the pen 'aren't right.' Albers was pretty clearly not right lately judging from his poor results and lower velocity and his first pitch Monday night pretty much confirmed it as did his DL stint that now follows. And frankly guys need to be a little more honest on how they feel if something isn't right. Everyone in this pen is going to go through a time this season where something isn't right, dead arm, whatever. The more we can be proactive about it and not reactive we can be, the better. I get that the tendency for them is to try to pitch through whatever but especially veterans like Albers need to understand that it isn't going to do either them nor the team any good.
  13. If we were in 1st in July I wouldn't have a problem sending them Arcia for Machado at all. You could have Dubon take over at SS next spring or you still have Miller if you want to wait on that. Dubon is a very competent defender in his own right at SS and you're certainly not going to lose anything offensively from Arcia to....well. anyone.
  14. To get this win I would squeeze one hitter each out of Jeffress, Hader and Knebel to get through an inning. Hader has gone twice in the last 3 games and almost 40 pitches last night. Nothing about the way he has been used in the past suggests he will be available IMO.
  15. Oh how we have missed this Chase Anderson. This Chase Anderson is the ace we need.
  16. I can't believe Santana put himself in a situation where he actually is going to get optioned and people won't be surprised. Never would have imagined it coming into this year. It's clear that the Brewers saw the red flags because they were shopping him hard at the Winter Meetings. Unfortunately other teams saw the red flags too.
  17. They had that chance a day or two ago, could have optioned Sogard or Arcia. If they didn't do it then no real reason to think they won't use the whole 10 days. Unfortunately the way things went last night, probably need the extra pen arm.
  18. I'm intrigued what kind of prices they could haul in for bullpen pieces like Knebel, Barnes, and Jeffress given how much of a seller's market it is going to be and how much pen arms are worth at the deadline, if they sold. By the way, I know they shouldn't and won't. Plus at some point you have to stop treating Jeffress that way, it's getting a little crazy. I'm just curious from a hypothetical standpoint.
  19. They need a pitcher for a day. So they could do what they've done in the past. Send Williams down, bring Peralta/Houser up for a day. Then the next day, option Peralta/Houser, bring up Archer or whoever else. This is how they've been able to get by with a 12 man pitching staff for most of the year. (Plus, this is all assuming no injuries along the line.) Archer isn't on the 40 so he isn't part of the revolving door. Also I see Williams as an important enough piece that they don't plan on optioning him down as part of any rotation at this point. They've had numerous opportunities to send Williams down this season and have always chosen other options and Williams keeps improving.
  20. So take advantage of it and jack the tickets for Brewers/Cubs game up to $200 for terrace reserve seats and $50 for general parking. Bleed them dry if they want to come.
  21. Velocity still there? He was sitting 88-90 and touched 91 once. His first pitch was a 4 seamer at 88, middle up, nothing more than a BP fastball. If anything is wrong with him or he's got a dead arm or whatever I agree on a 10 day DL stint for Albers. Otherwise he needs to be the 6th or 7th arm in the pen right now. I'd like to see Ramirez and Torres-Costa promoted to AAA immediately and then take the most successful of the two in a month. I'd promote whoever in the meantime, Lopez or Houser I guess. I've got no use for Logan anymore and they should just cut their losses with him. Basically all of the pen struggles coincided with when they finally activated him off the DL.
  22. Most minor league players are not represented by the MLBPA. It's not in the MLBPA's interests to cash in bargaining power on players it doesn't represent. Which is the problem, MiLB players end up stuck in the middle with no one that really cares about them. It's not a priority to either side, so every CBA they fight over the enormous pieces of the multi-billion dollar pie and then throw crumbs at the MiLB players.

  24. I live a 3 hour drive from Miller Park and still go to 5-6 games a year. I have a family of 5 with two toddlers and I am the sole income provider for the 5 of us at about 60 hours a week. This is the most I can afford to invest in both time and money. Hope it is okay with you.
  25. Journalists whose article titles include phrases such as 'throws shade," "claps back", or "breaks the internet", etc. Goodness, I can't believe this is even a thing. You are, presumably, reputable news sources. Have some professionalism. News shouldn't sound like it's written by a 14 year old for a local school newspaper.
