  1. My view is pretty simple, if you can't overturn it in 60-90 seconds you should be done and the review should be over. Any obviously wrong call can be fixed in 90 seconds. Enough of the 2-3 minute reviews of splicing together multiple angles.
  2. He was pretty clearly out. If it takes you 2 minutes and 9 seconds to figure it out I would say by definition that is not 'pretty clear.'
  3. Replay -- not used to fix obviously bad calls. Instead, used to pore over bang/bang calls for several minutes until they can say, "I conclusively think so."
  4. I feel like Cain can basically catch anything hit to the outfield. Just love having him out there.
  5. Josh Hader record watch: Most consecutive relief appearances with a K, 33, Aroldis Chapman (49) Most consecutive relief appearances with a K, one season: 23, Corey Knebel (45) Most strikeouts by a reliever, one season: 75 currently, pace of 176. Brewer record, Corey Knebel (126). NL record, Brad Lidge (157)
  6. I've got to think Brandon Woodruff still holds some solid trade value. He was a low top 100 prospect before his graduation, and between his dominance for the Sky Sox this year and mixed results for the Brewers, that value probably holds firm now. He has nice stuff and really has only had one bad outing this year -- a real ERA buster in Colorado. Depending on how comfortable we are with parting with him, he could be a good fit for a club like the Orioles who can afford to be patient with him. I'm not saying you could get Machado for Woodruff alone, but depending on how Manny's market develops, if the Orioles want controlled young pitching, he could make sense as a headliner.
  7. That's more along the lines of what I'm thinking it would cost eventually. And I'm betting the Mets' initial ask would probably include both Hiura and Hader because, why wouldn't they? Keston Hiura is the only current 'blue chip' prospect in our system, and you could argue that he carries similar value to what Brinson had this time last year. Perhaps even slightly more the way he is going. Burnes and Peralta are very nice prospects, but in terms of what Hiura is worth, they're not really that close. Both do have question marks -- Hiura's bat is about as sure of an MLB tool as you'll see in a prospect. I'm not saying we should trade Hiura -- far from it. 6+ years of that bat at 2nd, if he can be even average defensively, is not something I want to give up. But when you're talking about acquiring not only a controlled TOR starter, but arguably the most dominant starter in the National League-- being unwilling to part with your top prospect and trying to centerpiece a package around a couple prospects in the 50-100 range is just a total non-starter.
  8. As others have pointed out: 1) The Mets have absolutely no incentive to deal either of those two unless they get a desperation overpay. The Yankees could show up offering Torres straight up and there's a good chance the Mets wouldn't bite. 2) It's the trade deadline. Desperation overpays are part of the process, not an aberration from a previous year. Put yourself in the opposite shoes, say you're Stearns, you're having a rough year after a good start, and you have two aces, both with sub 3 career ERAs. Your older one is controlled still through 2020, and is having an insanely good Cy Young type season with an otherworldly 1.55 ERA as a starter. How excited are you going to be to deal him for a package that includes a total of zero top 50 prospects, 1 top 100, and a fringe top 100? Goodness, we did better than that for a year and a half of a catcher. I agree with a lot of what you say, generally. But Burnes + Peralta + Phillips puts you nowhere close to getting DeGrom.
  9. Logan has got to be pitching for his job soon. The good thing is we're making sure he pitches in situations where he can't really hurt us, but if you can't use your LOOGY as a LOOGY, there's no point in having one. We have way too many good arms in the system to carry a guy strictly as a luxury when we don't need that luxury and can't use the "luxury" for it's intended purpose. That said, did a nice job recovering to strike out the side for whatever that's worth.
  10. Not sure Suter will start the 7th let alone go beyond it. Pen is fine. Good night for Lopez to go a couple innings.
  11. Great night to get Boone Logan and Jorge "Is he in the majors or minors?" Lopez some work.
  12. Meh whatever. Grisham probably a little happy. Haha Ask a guy and he would probably tell you he would rather throw one pitch in the MLB vs. a MiLB perfect game. Maybe not, could argue he never would have faced the guy and would have had the perfect game.
  13. I'm curious as to the nature of the error. If would basically have to be a straight dropped fly to be scored that way without a hit too in the OF.
  14. Grisham broke up the perfect game bid with an error.
  15. It's really nice to see the bottom of the order getting some hits today.
  16. Could you argue there that Nick Williams should have dropped that foul? With Aguilar at 2 strikes in the count and already down 3.
  17. I feel like Counsell had a few cocktails at lunch and forgot that Arrieta is a RHP. Because this is exactly the lineup I would expect to see if he was a LHP.
  18. I would give up Ted Williams for a World Series Championship. You could make a strong case that the Cubs would have won it without him. Or you could make a case that they would have won several between 2016-20 with Torres. We'll never know.
  19. As Badger pointed out, Torres, Moncada, Kopech, Jimenez, and Gioloto, among others have all changed teams in the last 2 years. If these are not blue chip prospect I don't know who you would call blue chip. If, and it's a big if, but if the Mets are openly shopping Syndergaard or DeGrom, there are going to be numerous others in on it. And some are going to offer a lot better headliner than Corbin Burnes or Freddy Peralta -- probably even Hiura. If we put an offer out there of Burnes or Peralta + Ray + Supak + flyer or two, that offer will get pulverized by open bidding. These guys are controlled TOR assets, this is not a 2017 Sonny Gray situation. Teams that aren't even contenders this year and are already looking toward 2019 are likely to throw their hat in the ring for a shot at Syndergaard or DeGrom.
  20. Some of these offers have no basis in actual reality and are complete wishful thinking in my opinion. The Mets would probably ask for Hader coming back for DeGrom or Syndergaard. At a minimum they would rightfully tell us to piss off for any offer that didn't include Hiura + one of Burnes or Peralta as a starting point, as Trwi said. Getting DeGrom without including either of Hader or Hiura just has no chance of happening. Gleyber Torres for DeGrom is way closer than a lot of these. A low top 100 pitcher as the headline piece for a legit TOR starter with a 2.81 career ERA, 10K/9 and nearly 3 years of control? Come on.
  21. Not necessarily true. They may just want to give him 10 days there to get comfortable again. I don't think they are going to find out anything in 10 days that they don't already know based on his 3000+ innings there in his career, about 1000 more than every other position he has played combined.
  22. Bahahahaha, plug him in at SS...we'll be just fine defensively. Figured you were going to be the first in to comment on that one. Anyway, its obviously not a good start, but he's never had a FP less than .958 at SS in a season. He's clearly not a strong defender but he's not going to commit errors every game. It's not surprising he would have a rough start 18 months removed from playing the position. There's a reason they sent him to work on his game in AAA first. This reminds me of the panic early in 2017 the first week of watching Villar play 2nd. Miller will be fine at SS, as in, not a disaster. Or maybe he will be bad, I really don't know, but making snap judgments about it based on one single minor league game is a little ridiculous. You're going to be disappointed if you think Miller was acquired to be Villar's backup and a pinch hitter. They would have likely called him right up if that was the case.
