  1. Could have fooled me when Notre Dame lost by a point to Georgia and the committee seemed to treat it like a win and ranked Notre Dame as an elite for awhile despite not even being ranked pre-season.
  2. Agreed, Yelich walks 10% and ks only 20% on average which both are exactly what you want out of a guy. He has hit around .290 and power would probably even increase more with age and Miller Park. His OPS has been sitting between .810 and .850. He also is a good athlete who can run. He is 20/20 type athlete right now at 25 years old. Could even burst out a 30/30 season in the coming years. Again though if I am trading for Yelich, Broxton is one to go with out of the three. "Flaboy" gets back to Florida and then we can turn sights on a TOR pitcher with Brinson. You trade Brinson for Yelich, you lose your greatest trading chip for that pitcher. Debate is where do we want to go this season? Is this another building year and letting young talent learn and grow...hope they perform and we compete OR do we go to make this team a competitor NOW. Yelich in the OF and a big arm, could help put us right there. Hope is DS can buy as well as he sells. If you could land Yelich for Broxton + Ortiz + Bickford, I'd do it without hesitation.
  3. Here's how I see it. Clemson/Miami winner is in, loser out. Georgia/Auburn winner is in, loser is out. Wisconsin and Oklahoma both control their own destiny and are in with wins. Both will be out with losses. Bama is the first team in if either Wisconsin or Oklahoma fall. If neither do, they're out. If both do, door opens for one of Ohio State or TCU.
  4. Yelich has averaged 4 WAR per season in his first 4 full years. If Brinson can be that valuable, I'll be thrilled. It is a tremendous stretch to call Brinson 'better' than Yelich especially right now.
  5. I would love to see a Oklahoma/Wisconsin matchup, top offense vs. top defense.
  6. Miami loss really doesn't mean much, either way the ACC is getting no more than 1 team in, they were never going to take a 1 loss non-champ Hurricane team over undefeated B10 champ Wisconsin. Rest easy, we win today and vs. OSU we'll be in.
  7. Don't remember that at all that they were not that impressed with Brinson, other than they preferred Jimenez over Brinson, which is totally understandable, and weren't going to do a deal with us without Hader, which is also understandable. I highly doubt they value Harrison over Brinson.
  8. While we are at it, we should trade Hiura and Ortiz for Tim Tebow... I thought about saying something but when I really think about it, it's really not as bad as it sounds. Yelich is only 25, is a 4-5 WAR player under fairly cheap team control through 2022. He's really valuable and would immediately solve our CF. But yeah it would be disappointing to trade both Brinson and Phillips and have no pitching to show for it.
  9. If we are starting with a list of 7 untouchable prospects, opposing GMs aren't going to take us very seriously in trade negotiations in July or the winter. My point is, there aren't any untouchables. Just guys with higher price tags. I'm willing to sell anyone if I feel the value is in my favor.
  10. I don't know if it's only to pump up his price, but yes I agree there's probably a lot more smoke than fire. Stearns himself reiterated the other day that they're in the market for starters, but as far as specific names like Arrieta and Lynn, he doesn't know where people are getting that from. It just comes with the territory of what you're in the market for. Was there any major starter at the trade deadline that we WEREN'T linked to? Quintana yes, Gray yes, Verlander yes. Can't remember us being linked to Darvish, but if he had more control and wasn't just a rental, we probably would have been. So I'm not at all surprised at this point to see us linked to Arrieta and Lynn. Maybe you find a soft spot in the market and land a big starter for what you feel is a bargain price. Or more likely you drive up the market for your competitors. Absolutely no harm in kicking the tires on anything.
  11. No one is talking about shipping out ALL of our hard work. You can't just stockpile all the prospects you want in the minors until they're ready, that's why they have the Rule 5. Have you seen the list of guys who will be Rule 5 eligible if not protected in the next year? The list is insane. Harrison, Supak, Medeiros, Isan Diaz, Ortiz, Gatewood, Ponce, Bickford...just to name a FEW. You simply can't find room on your roster for everyone by next year. Either some of these guys get traded or we lose them for nothing in the Rule 5. Then let's talk about trading those guys you just listed and not Brinson, Phillips, Dubon, Hader and the like. You trade your surplus and you trade your quantity. Not your quality. The proposed trade that we based the discussion of the last couple pages of this on that you were referencing with your first post literally included all guys from that list. Harrison, Ortiz and Supak
  12. Maitan would be drafted in a second, age be damned. He'd be stashed on the deepest recesses of someone's MLB roster for a year.
  13. Do all these prospects owe their bonuses back to the Braves? Or is it just their lucky day and they make out like bandits and double dip?
  14. How much are we legally allowed to give him for a bonus? It's not like we should be restricted by our own financial situation.

  16. Holy cow, I said before we were starting to overrate Harrison a bit, not blow the cover off of reality. 7 WAR? Andrew McCutchen? Harrison is a 22 year old who has never played above High A. McCutchen was a rookie in MLB at age 22 with an OPS+ of 121. Harrison has, probably generously, a 1 in 50 chance or so of ever being a 7 WAR player at the MLB level or enjoying the kind of career that McCutchen has. Domingo Santana is a much more realistic projection for Harrison and he's got a LONG ways to go to even get there.
  17. NO thanks! Trading Harrison in any package that does not get us an ACE is a silly proposition imo...I am not on the Archer or Cobb train, they just aren't going to be difference makers, in that they can get us over the hump to a playoff appearance. Trading away our future for either guy is just not smart. I like Harrison, but IMO we are starting to overrate him a bit. His progression was great to see and scouts love his athleticism, but he's never played above High A and isn't particularly young for his level anymore. His numbers between Appleton and Carolina showed nice progression -- not domination. I'm hoping for even more of a breakout from him next year, but he's still got a long ways to go. Given their interest in Quintana and Gray last year I doubt Stearns would hesitate for a second to pull the trigger on that deal. For what its worth the Rays turned down a much better deal than that last off-season from the Astros that included 3 top 50 prospects.
  18. It's only going to hurt them in the end. You know if the worst happens to Alabama and they lose either the Iron Bowl or SEC title game, the CFP committee would love to try to justify a spot for them in the top 4 as a 1 loss team. Had they had a top 25 team on the schedule this week and won in dominating fashion, maybe there would be a case. But there won't be when you add Mercer to an already underwhelming resume.
  19. Bandy was our opening day starter in 2017 and was a pretty intriguing young catcher who at worst looked like he'd be a cheaper alternative to Maldonado with no dropoff. For the first couple months it looked like we had a really formidable catching tandem in Pina/Bandy. Then for whatever reason Bandy completely fell off a cliff in June and that was pretty much it for his season. He seems like a viable bounceback candidate as a backup, but I can sure understand if that isn't the route they want to go.
  20. I'm not interested in a Lucroy reunion, but I really don't know what people honestly expect professional athletes to say sometimes when asked a direct question. "I love Milwaukee, I hope I'm here forever." (Now he's a liar) "No comment." (Now it's pretty obvious he wants out, he just doesn't want to say it.) Or he can do what he did and answer the question honestly, he didn't trash the city or organization, he gave an honest answer to a direct question. I guess the best way to answer probably would have been, "No one knows what the future holds, but right now I'm just focused on helping the Brewers win games." But sometimes that's not what you think of on the spot. He was a class act and probably the best catcher in franchise history and doesn't deserve to have his entire legacy tarnished for telling the world that he wants to win a World Series.
  21. So true. I never bluffed with the cable/satellite companies. I tell them, 'this is what you need to do to keep me', and if they can do it I stay, if not I go. Its been my experience over the years with Dish and Directv that every time they don't give in and I cancel, I get bombarded with offers from them for months -- really low promo offers, 200 dollar VISA cards, etc. So I'm sitting there scratching my head every time thinking, "This is a lot less than what I asked you to do, so why didn't you just do it and you wouldn't have lost me?"
  22. For $180 bucks a month, what are you still doing there? By that I mean, what is it about cable TV that you can't do without? Local shows? NFL Sundays? Brewer games, Bucks games? Chances are, whatever it is, there's an alternative these days. You mentioned you don't want to go to satellite, but there are other options. Have you considered any of them at this point? To answer your question, for what it's worth, I'm very good friends with a guy who used to work for Charter (Spectrum) and he told me that their representatives have been trained in recent years to stand their ground and dig in their heels on re-issuing promotional offers. This seems surprising to me in this day and age where cord cutters have probably been cutting into their bottom line, but that's what he told me. I used to play the same game with Directv and Dish Network and Directv was the only one I ever had luck at getting to hook me up, but sometimes I still had to press hard and talk to the right person. But I always told them first off that I was calling to cancel. And I did, if they couldn't help me.
  23. For those who once had Directv or Dish and cut the cord but want local channels free, I highly recommend just installing an antenna on your roof. You can get a good 150 mile range one online for 25 bucks or so. You won't get 150 miles, but it'll do a lot better than the short range indoor ones. I live in Wisconsin Rapids and get NBC out of Eau Claire with no issues, which is almost 100 miles away. Since all of the existing coaxial from your dish should still be in place it's an easy installation, just take your dish down and use the existing base for your antenna, you may need a pipe for more elevation if you're not getting good enough reception but that's about it. I am by no means a handyman and it was a breeze. Of course if you live in a big city you can probably get by with the smaller indoor antennas.
  24. I would say 'No thanks, and there's nothing you need to make amends for.'
  25. Orlando Arcia probably isn't going anywhere, but I'm of the belief that we should always be open to every possibility, because sometimes surprising opportunities present themselves unexpectedly. I'm sure most Brewer fans didn't think Alcides Escobar was going anywhere after 2010.
