  1. Was there a specific proposal that was ludicrous? As you mentioned it's certainly understandable that another organization would target Shaw.
  2. Nice reward for a God-awful season from our safeties almost across the board. What an underwhelming letdown if these two hires come to fruition.
  3. I don't think it's official or anything yet and probably won't be til Monday, just McGinn reporting on the sources he has that it's more or less a done deal.
  4. If anyone thought Thompson was too conservative in free agency, just wait for Ball. The entire roster construction will depend on Ted's scouting.
  5. Lovely. So we pegged a successor less qualified than TT while alienating both our star player and Eliot Wolf in the process. This reeks of a 'good ol boy' move. Someone in the organization for years that has probably been promised the role by Murphy. They knew who they wanted all along and nothing was going to change their mind. So we're now entrusting the last few years of Rodgers' career to a guy who can't evaluate talent. What could go wrong?
  6. Actually... no. Perhaps one or the other, but not both. Been there... done that... two jobs are too big for one person not matter who it is. Also, I understand the frustration with TT and MM over "only" winning one SB and it being seven years ago, but I think some of us have forgotten what other teams go through with good and/or bad players. MM makes blunders, but he is still in the top 10 coaches in the league. Sometimes a change needs to be made for the sake of team unity and cohesion (same as I said with DC as the DC). But its very easy to dump throw out everything and end up with something much worse. When I hear Viking fans say that Packer fans have gotten soft and spoiled by success, I'm starting to see where they get that impression. BB has been GM and HC of the Pats for years. In general I'm also against the dual role but Belichick is the exception to just about any rule.
  7. Brinson is a lock, obviously. There may be a bit of a drop though. He's really the only Tier 1 guy, but Tier 2 is loaded. I see Burnes, Harrison, and Hiura as guys who will definitely be there somewhere, so that's a minimum of 4. I expect Ray and Diaz to likely drop off. Woodruff is iffy. Lutz and Peralta look like outside shots to me. Phillips is technically still eligible for Pipeline, and frankly deserves to be back on, but I expect him to get overlooked.
  8. Why couldn't Belichick and Thompson co-exist? TT doesn't strike me as an extroverted egomaniac despite the last 12 years. I think if BB tells him to sit back quietly behind the scenes and do his scouting role he would be perfectly fine with that.
  9. Yeah, I think I'd do it too. It's a possible franchise changing opportunity that you can't pass on. Obviously it sucks for MM, but a pretty good portion of the fan base wanted him tossed out with TT and Capers after this season for a total overhaul, so it's not like it would be totally unjustified. He'd catch on somewhere else. He's going to find himself closer to the hot seat anyway this year under a new GM. I don't know if he can afford another 7-9 season.
  10. Bombshell report out of New England that this may be Belichick's last year in New England because of friction between BB/Brady/Kraft. Sounds like Belichick was basically forced into trading Jimmy G by Kraft and Brady. Just for fun, hypothetically if BB were to find himself available after the season and interested in the opportunity here, would you fire McCarthy, hand Belichick the reins to both GM and HC and basically give him total control?
  11. Some of you IMO are really underrating Cain. Frankly he's underrated in general. There's a lot we can go back and forth on, but Baseball Reference had him over 5 WAR in 3 out the last 4 seasons and over 7 in one. That's not just a good player, that's a borderline star. Obviously the big question is how long he can sustain that kind of value at age 32. If we could pull off Cain for a 3 year deal and end up getting a top of the rotation starter for our surplus outfielders that definitely moves the needle for us and I'd go that direction in a heartbeat.
  12. I'm with you Keith. I don't understand the 'bring back Lucroy' crowd at all. I would expect anyone that actually wants him back felt that way purely for sentimental reasons -- except I don't think anyone here who wants him back is sentimental about it at all. Pina has earned the job, and he's cheap. Lucroy isn't a bankbreaker, but it's a high price to pay for someone who may or may not even be an upgrade from Pina. And from Lucroy's perspective, he probably has a better shot at more starts elsewhere where he doesn't have to compete as much for them with someone like Pina. It makes little to no sense for either side.
  13. Not sure what his reasons for sticking it to them would be. They didn't fire him. They haven't fired him, but that doesn't mean he'll be staying. If he doesn't get the HC gig, which it doesn't look like he will, it's highly possible he'll take an opportunity elsewhere rather than stay under the new HC. Jim Bates left the Packers DC post under similar circumstances when Mike Sherman was fired.
  14. I would hate to part with Burnes but I would do that deal in a heartbeat. Which is why it's probably not nearly enough. I highly doubt Archer to Milwaukee is possible without either Brinson or Santana headed to Tampa.
  15. To be fair to the guy, he did state at the end of it that he wouldn't expect it to happen because of the value the Brewers would place on their pitching prospects.
  16. I'm generally a MM supporter and don't want him replaced, but the guy's stubborn tendencies, the same ones that kept Capers here so long, are really starting to show at times. I don't expect MM to be a perfect decision maker. That's crazy, no one can do that. What I do expect is that when a wrong decision is made, correct it and move on. Don't bang your head on the wall and compound the problem. Hundley was a bad decision. It's not even Hundley's fault, he's just not the guy we thought he could be. That in itself is ok, but MM speaking postgame still sounds like a guy who is headed into 2018 with plans for Hundley to be our backup QB. He truly believes that with another off-season and training camp and more experience, Hundley will shine. Bless his heart -- but come on. You said it yourself, Mike. Hundley practices great every week. Some guys practice great every week and still can't put it together on Gameday. Hundley is one of those guys. I fully realize Callahan may be junk, but by Week 17 there was absolutely no downside to letting him practice with the 1's, start, and at least have SOME information on him as to whether or not he can be a serviceable backup. Now we have none.
  17. Maybe one of the first two and one of the second two. So literally half what they're proposing. Not even saying I would do that but that would seem much closer to reality.
  18. I'll say it again, when 2/3rds of the league is drafting ahead of you for eight consecutive seasons that's what happens. The Vikings have drafted ahead of the Packers every year since 2010; they should be better than the Packers. Minnesota has drafted ahead of the Packers, but generally, not that much later. Seattle, New England, and Pittsburgh have perennially drafted late and have been fine. Cleveland has been drafting top 5 since about 1946 and still stink every year. Obviously draft position matters but ultimately shouldn't be used as a crutch for not accumulating talent. With that said I do think there's far more talent on D than the results suggest this year. We should find out soon enough with a new DC. And unfortunately they whiffed badly at backup QB which turned out to be very significant.
  19. Same Jason Kidd who predicted 50 wins this season? No other NBA team has such a gap between talent and results. Kidd needs to go.
  20. https://theathletic.com/195052/2017/12/26/with-the-astros-victory-celebration-in-full-swing-a-heart-stopping-drama-was-playing-out-behind-the-scenes-the-race-to-save-a-beloved-coachs-life/ Good read about the now retired Astros coach who was the Brewers bench coach back in the early-mid 2000s.
  21. I concur. It's an absolute nothing burger. Something which happens every season with regularity and the only reason anyone is complaining and the only reason it's being talked about is because it's Aaron Rodgers. For God's sake, the NFL had to approve him going on IR.
  22. Yeah the purposely missed FT was so baffling and made zero sense up 3. Make it, go up 4 and stand there and don't even guard anyone, the game is over. If they were up 1 or 2 instead of 3, I'd totally agree with it.
  23. It wasn't the worst signing of the last 10 years, but it was the most expensive -- extending Ryan Braun for his post-30 seasons for $105M when he still had 5 seasons remaining on his contract made very little sense to me.
  24. Yeah, that's downright depressing to think the Jeff Suppan signing wasn't even in the last 10 years.
  25. Don't click on the thread maybe? Yeah I don't get it. "I don't like this idea, so I don't want ANYone to talk about it." ?
