  1. Yes, Freddy Peralta will need to be added to the 40 anyway after this year, and he's fully stretched out to start. You might as well go ahead and call him up to start and see what happens.
  2. Sure, mathematically not. Realistically, I'll stand by what I said that they need to sweep now to make this a race again. 2 of 3 and then you still need 3 of 4 in the next series which is a big ask, and then that still leaves you with 2 games to make up just to tie, and there just isn't a lot of ground to be made up against the soft remaining schedule for the Cubs. If they come out of this series down 4, the Cubs still have 6 games left on this homestand including 3 against the Mets...I just don't see them continuing to hang around in the division race in that scenario.
  3. 1 down, 2 to go. There is really no sugarcoating it -- as far as any division helps go, we need to sweep and we need to treat these last 2 games like playoff games. It's not a take 2 out of 3 at Wrigley and feel good about that situation. That would only put a 1 game dent into their lead. But sweep and the lead is down to 2 and things get really interesting. Not getting much help in the WC race. Dodgers picked a fine time to start sucking.
  4. You are? Because the team has lost 3 at Wrigley this year. If you mean you I think you have a duty to be in attendance tomorrow and Sunday...
  5. Colorado Springs has 16 runs tonight. Maybe we can swap offenses with them and finally score some runs.
  6. They have pretty much tried everything to jumpstart the offense. Aguilar starting, Villar in CF. They could try something like batting the pitcher 8th, there's some merit to that but at this point there's not a lot that can be done. Either they get it going or they don't.
  7. Great to win, every win against the Cubs now isn't nice, it's completely necessary. The bad news is that the offense continues to be completely lifeless. It's essentially become a 'have to keep them off the board' game for our pitching staff in the second half.
  8. Cubs were trying to coax counsel into pulling hader for ph. Curious as to how often an intentional walk is issued with the bases empty. It has to be extremely rare even for the best of the best hitters.
  9. I've long been a fan of traditional BB, but I think its time for the DH... Just too much specialization in the game anymore. That and Ryan Braun as a DH is probably a benefit for the next 3 years. So we lose Nelson and suddenly we should go to the DH huh? lol At the very least, it should not be different rules for different leagues. There's no logic that AL teams should not have the same risks for their pitcher that NL pitchers do as long as both leagues are competing for the same trophy. And yeah having Braun to DH the next few years would be a big benefit.
  10. For those still holding out division hope, it's basically last call, and its sweep or bow out.
  11. As much as Scooter gets brought up for his waive back in April, I thought the no-trade last August over a year later is worth a retrospective look. Braun has a 1.2 fWAR and .831 OPS this year. Puig has a 2.3 fWAR, mostly from superior defensive skills, but he does have similar slugging numbers to Braun and has remained healthy. McCarthy has not, he has similar injury struggles as Garza and is on the DL. He however has a 3.84 ERA and 3.33 FIP in 16 starts this year. He would have been a much better version of Garza this year, who comparably has a 5.06 ERA and 4.96 FIP in 22 starts. I don't know who the two prospects would have been, I'm guessing somewhere in the 15-20 organizational prospect range for the Dodgers. Puig/McCarthy would have been a respectable get for Braun regardless of the two prospects included.
  12. One thing that has hampered the offense is a lack of a star player in the lineup. Back in the Prince/Braun days, when Braun was still Braun, those two were so good that they generally kept us out of any prolonged slumps like what we're seeing right now. We just don't have that anymore, anywhere. Let's be honest about Braun -- he isn't the star he once was. Shaw was the closest to it this year, and he's still a very nice hitter, but predictably there's been somewhat of a regression in the second half. We have no great hitters in our lineup, and 3 good ones -- Braun, Shaw, and Santana. Literally everyone else in our lineup is either a marginal platoon player, or a regular because of defensive skills, like Arcia. They really need guys like Hiura and Lutz to hit as well as advertised and advance quickly. Our farm was supposed to be loaded with potentially great hitters, but results this year, in particular at High A Carolina were very disappointing as far as that goes.
  13. I see that the Mets, who lost Conforto for the season and have traded away every other remotely good bat they have, are having no trouble putting up runs on the Reds.
  14. We're now looking up at St Louis, who many a few days ago thought we had no need to be concerned with. Only silver lining about today is the Rockies lost.
  15. I mean there's really no point in cutting ties with him now that rosters have expanded. You can't free up his spot for postseason eligibility for someone else anyway. Just ride out the last month, pass on his option (as far as I know there is no buyout), and be done with it. But yeah, he shouldn't pitch any more meaningful innings for us.
  16. 'Well timed off day for the offense?' Really Rock? They've had tons of off days the last few weeks . It's not helping.
  17. They were just excited about getting free pizza for that K.
  18. Has to be the most frustrating series of the year. I'll continue to root and hope maybe everything starts clicking against the Cubs and they sweep and are right back in it. But if I'm honest with myself I don't see this as a top 5 NL team at the end of this month.
  19. Why is one of our best relievers being used in mop up duty when we have all this extra relievers? Just...why?? Counsell has just baffled me this series with his decision making. It's not like Hader has been needing extra work lately.
  20. I completely get it. I'm one of the worst at times. But it would be great if we had some people on these boards be leaders (and I'm not calling out the mods, just people in general) and not let this stuff keep rearing it's ugly head. Like I tried to put earlier was that had Adam just said Garza sucks, yada yada yada... none story. But how he wrote his post (and I've done it too) just creates bickering and dislike for one another. It just doesn't need to happen. These forums are awesome but we can actually make them better if we so choose to. You could start by not being condescending and telling me to grow up, when all I was doing is clearly expressing an opinion in a certain way that the excuses for Garza get tiresome. Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it's not valid. I don't know why it's up to you to decide whether saying 'Garza sucks' or what I did is the correct way to express it. And I know I've been guilty of being condescending too and I know I need to try to work on that here.
  21. Give it a rest. This crap is so annoying and just ruins game threads. Doesn't do anyone any good. Neither does your reply, though I figured one like that was coming soon. Last week you were all 'game threads are reactionary' and now you're on one of your 'time for me to police what other people post in the game threads' crusades again.
  22. I'll save the Garza apologists the trouble: - Nothing hit hard - Defense didn't help - Other than a couple mistakes was solid
  23. For someone who I thought was a pretty good manager, Counsell has mismanaged this series beyond belief. Garza is so awesome. What is this, our 3rd bases loaded walk this series?
  24. I just can't with Counsell right now. Between Perez leading off and benching the one guy who actually murders Reds pitching for basically the series, I just can't. Hopefully we get lucky today. Good job Garza working out of the jam.
