He disagreed with the move and cited a stat to support why. Nothing wrong with that. People opinions also change and evolve based on the current team situation. As I said I would be a lot more behind this move if we were 3 up in the division. Being 3 down and IMO not going to be contending for the division in the final week it seems to be a waste of resources and evaluation time to me.

I think what I like the least is how it complicates 2B next year. You've got a controllable 26 year old 2B who you liked enough to offer a long term deal a few months ago, and who is finally, finally starting to show signs of coming out of it, and you make this deal now? Villar has stunk this year, make no bones about it. But looking at the big picture you've got to evaluate whether he can bounce back now and be the guy for at least next year. So now he sits on the bench the rest of the way, and then what? Non-tender him? Give him another shot in 2018? It's hard to say now, but the 30% remaining of the season would help determine that if he was going to play. If I thought Walker was so good that he could make a difference and get things going again and help carry us the division, I'd say screw it, it's worth it. But that's not the case.

Good God you people sure can whine. Some of you simply can't be positive about anything... it's quite something. How exactly is he whining? He pointed out that like most of our offense, Walker has struggled with the bat since the AS break. How does mentioning a stat equate to whining?

Good heavens, what is the point now? Villar is finally starting to heat up with the bat and we make this move now. There's a good chance Walker doesn't even outperform Villar the rest of the year. So even if it's a salary dump, we're going to pay $5M for a guy who is not going to make much difference, and now head into 2018 with Villar as a huge question mark instead of seeing if he can heat up the rest of the way. I get what they're trying to do but I really don't agree with it. Maybe if we were still 3 up in the division I could get on board, but 3 down...nah. I'd rather have just played it out with Villar and see what happens. The focus should be turning away from 2017 at this point.

Ever since he got hit in the neck and almost knocked out, and came back to play the next day? No idea how much that has to do with it, but he was slumping before that.

I'm on the verge of starting to root for Pirate wins. If we're not going anywhere, it would at least be a mild consolation to see the Cubs and Cardinals also at home watching the playoffs.

Wasn't bottom last night? In all seriousness I have no use for this team personally right now. They aren't just losing tough games, they're being embarassed, have zero plate discipline, and the manager is clueless as well. It's a group effort of suck. Its going to be funny when the season goes full circle and they just end up being the 75 win team everyone thought they would be from the start. With a loss tonight that would take a 16-28 finish from here. Not unrealistic at all.

Kind of ironic that this whole thing started with the '82 Brewers coming to town. I guess that's what we get for continuously celebrating losing.

Although I follow other teams, I'm right there with you on the embarrassment part. People laugh when you tell them you are a Brewers fan. It sucks. And unlike other sports, you invest a lot of time in watching them to have disappointment yearly. They don't even resemble a major league team the majority of the time. It just sucks. During the AS break I was out at the bar talking to a buddy of mine. He's a big sports fan, but doesn't know the first thing about the Brewers. Probably couldn't name one player besides Ryan Braun. I remember talking to him about being 5.5 up in the division and how much things had a different feel with guys like Shaw and Thames and how Nelson and Anderson had emerged as solid starters, and Knebel's streak, and how exciting it was to be a Brewer fan right now. All he did was look at me and said, "It's the Brewers. They'll screw it up." Doesn't know the first thing about the Brewers and was still 100% right.

Does it really matter whether it's 3 or 30? This team isn't winning the division.

This umpire rang up Broxton on a ball outside and just proceeded to call 3 balls in the strikezone against Hamilton. Counsell needs to get tossed tonight, and in the post game presser he needs to call out these umpires for the disgraces they are. Someone needs to already.

They've already traded for 3 pen arms in the last month, one of them being a setup man. How many more pen arms do you want him to acquire? They are already carrying 2 guys in the pen that they've traded for. And MA absolutely should not say that to Stearns. He should congratulate him on what he's done and tell him he trusts his judgment. Setting yet another precedent now and overriding Stearns in his decision making process the first year that we start to have success again would be very undermining and a big mistake. We disagree on this one. It's Marks team. If he wants a two-bagger that actually plays like a pro ball player, he should be able to voice that without hurting Stearns feelings. I simply pointed out that Stearns has acquired 3 relievers in the last month including one high leverage reliever and asked what more he should have donr there at this point. I understand you were speaking more in general rather than calling out me specifically but I'm not really sure what it was about my post that brought you to make that point. Now to your other points, to me, it's not about Stearns' feelings at all. It's about the job he was hired to do, and if Mark A plans on going all Jerry Jones on him every time the team has a weakness, there's no point in him being here. Of course Mark A. has a voice at the table. I'm sure he's inquired about the pen and 2B in the last month and discussed with Stearns what could be done for a reasonable price and without compromising long-term goals. But there is a big, big difference between that and telling Stearns, "This is unacceptable, find us another 2nd baseman", which is in fact undermining Stearns. I also think as fans we often tend to look at things a little more simplisticly than they really are. We see a weakness and wonder, why don't they just fix it, when the reality is often a little more complicated. For instance, Villar. He's 26 and was coming off a fine 2016. So what happened? Was he just a fluke last year, or is he just having a down year now? I'm sure they'd like to get a little more data between now and the end of the season to try to determine that, because they're always still looking at the big picture, too. So they go out and get Kinsler tomorrow and Villar basically sits on the bench the rest of the season. Now what do you do with him going forward? And Sogard has been back less than 3 weeks. While his regression isn't surprising, I'm sure they did consider how good he was in the first half too in hopes that maybe he could spark things at 2nd. That hasn't happened, but I think it's unfair to say Stearns has just twiddled his thumbs for 2 months, when at the time of the deadline Sogard had been back just a week. I'm sure they were hoping for Sogard to at least continue to be adequate or for Villar to start to show 2016 form again, and neither one of those has happened. It's still possible a move gets made, but it isn't nearly as cut and dry as we make it out to be. Trading for a 2nd baseman 2 months ago would have been giving up quite early on a controllable 26 year old who was a 3 WAR player last year. You can't just quit on every player who has a bad half of baseball. That's how we ended up with Travis Shaw.

What we feel Scooter should have been worth doesn't really matter, it only matters what the 29 other GMs felt he was worth, and they felt he was worth nothing. Considering Scooter was replacement level in both 2015 and 2016 this should not come as a surprise.

To echo what others have said, Bruce is strictly limited to the corners. He isn't going to start over Santana and as long as Braun stays healthy (knock on wood), he isn't going to start for him either. Obviously this was strictly a salary dump for the Mets, but no matter how little you have to give up in terms of players/prospects, doesn't make much business sense to pay $4.2M for less than 2 months for a player to sit on your bench. You'd basically have to split the playing time evenly 3 ways (2/3, 2/3, 2/3) to justify it, and at the end of the day would that really make us any better l? Good deal for the Indians, wouldn't make much sense for us.
