    Yelich is by far the most consistent player on the Brewers this season. Consistently 1 for 4 or 1 for 5, but consistent.

    I have been on record saying I’m totally okay with making a huge move but my true dream scenario is the Dodgers get Skubal and then we beat them in 7 games with what we already got.

    I think it’s probably going to be considerably less than they think but probably also more than you think. Elite pitching is very valuable, even in the short term. I was surprised how much we got for Freddy and he’s obviously nowhere close to Skubal.

    I’ll also note in fairness that the package proposal isn’t really crazy far off in value from the CC Sabathia package, but that was 18 years ago and general managers just don’t usually give up that kind of prospect value for a rental anymore, even the best aces.

    I know Skubal is amazing but giving up the #18 prospect in baseball for anyone who won’t be here after October just seems crazy to me. I’d feel the same if we were getting to rent Ohtani for the same price. If we are going to give up Pena I’d rather get Mason Miller and at least have our 9th inning solved for the next few years. If the original proposal replaced Pena with Jett Williams I could probably get there. I would also like to point out that rampant sports media speculation takes place every time a player like Skubal is available and they are very rarely even close. I don’t think MLB teams or GMs are influenced by it at all.

    I remember when Jackson Holliday and Jackson Chourio were both basically 1A and 1B prospects in baseball and there was a lot of debate on who was the better one. Now both are 22 and as frustrating as Chourio has been, he’s actually been the far greater success so far, and they both still have a lot of potential development. I am afraid of what people’s initial expectations are for Jesus Made and how many times the word “bust” will be thrown around in his first year or two. The immediately dominant out of the gate generational guys are just so incredibly rare. Maybe Juan Soto in recent history qualifies.

    The most honest answer that I can give is that he’s 22 years old. Am I frustrated with the lack of a true breakout… absolutely yes. But very few guys follow a linear progression scale at 22.

    With that being said, I wouldn’t trade Pena for a rental either, no matter how good the rental. If I had to pin down the max offer that I wouldn’t be upset about, it would be something like Jett Williams, Fischer and Sproat for Skubal, and that still hurts and feels like a lot. Which, it should for someone like Skubal.

    I don’t *want* to trade Pena but in the event that we did use prospects to buy, he would probably be considered most expendable of my top prospects, It would of course depend on what we are getting. You have to give something to get something. No one is giving us a stud even if a rental for Robert Gasser.

    I don’t think anyone thinks that. I definitely expect the Cubs to remain competitive and not just hand us the division, and I think some improvements particularly with the pitching staff should be considered before next week’s deadline..

    Maybe, maybe not. Starting an inning isn’t the same as coming into the middle of one. We’ll never know. Whatever, the pitching sucked.
