    Too much chasing that inning. The Brewers should know better than anyone that Freddy will give you some walks but you gotta let him.

    Can’t be too mad at William because he’s probably the WS MVP if it ended now. But that inning turned on his bad swing 2-1 swing decision.

    It got overlooked because of all the many other things going on in this game but the Packers really botched the strategy at the end there. If they planned to let the Lions score the time to do it was with 2:30 left when Gibbs got them down to the 25. After Brooks jumped to make it 1st and 10, it was pointless, the Lions aren’t dumb and knew exactly what we are trying to do and didn’t fall for it. The only hope was to keep them from getting another 1st and force them to kick and if they had done that we still would have had 20-30 seconds to get into FG range, but because we purposely let them pick up a huge chunk of yards on 1st down we screwed the pooch on it from the get go. Actually we are fortunate that Gibbs didn’t pick up the 1st down first and then go down which he well could have done.

    You don’t see the factor, though, of the time amount remaining in the game and the idea that this could easily be a last possession wins game? If Campbell does that with 10 minutes left, I agree that it’s not a good decision. When there’s 4 minutes left and he punts, the Packers need to go maybe 30 yards to get in FG range and there’s an excellent chance the Lions never get the ball back. And even if Smack misses, it’s then just OT, not Lions necessarily win because they don’t get last possession.

    It’s gotten to be a pretty poor product. I don’t know how they fix it. You can’t go back to not caring about player safety, but you can’t continue to put out a game like the one yesterday and expect not to drive people away. I feel we are going to run into half a dozen or so betting scandals in the next 10-20 years. I fear the gambling market has become too integrated into the game not to go down that road eventually. An NFL official is not a lucrative enough career not for some of them to take some risks if you can double your salary splitting between Kalshi, Polymarket, and 10 different sports books. These guys have friends and acquaintances outside of NFL circles to cut it on the action. There is no way for the NFL to cover all their bases to prevent it, if they even care enough to do so.

    Sorry, one of my pet peeves is when people just assume things like “oh, if MLF did that you would have destroyed him for it.” No, just because I don’t care for Matt LaFleur doesn’t mean I don’t have the ability to think for myself.

    Nope, that isn’t the case, I don’t criticize MLF for a second if he makes that decision. I’ve been critical of MLF, but there’s been plenty of times that I’ve taken his side when the board has not. (Typically when not “taking the points”, even if it fails). Would others have criticized it? I’m sure, as with any other controversial decision by any coach . You have to think beyond “what would most NFL coaches do here to avoid criticism?” it was absolutely the right call and the analytics support it based on the time on the clock. Excellent decision by Campbell and a good job not just coaching by what the conventional masses would say. Very good chance the Packers simply milk the clock and walk it off if he goes with the “conventional” decision.

    By the way, everyone wants to clown on Campbell for that 4th down decision just because it isn’t conventional, but he knew with complete certainty that even if it fails, he’s getting the ball back with a chance again. If he punts, there’s a good chance that the Packers drain the clock and the Lions never see the football again. There’s more to the strategy than Campbell is just a big overly aggressive idiot.

    Would you give one of your employees a million dollars just to keep him, fire him a month later after giving him the million dollars before he even starts on his next job, hire his replacement, and then watch his replacement do a much worse job? Sound like an efficiently run company? Well, Brian Gutekunst did that exact thing just this year.

    As a Brewer fan, the difference in the quality of management at every level of the organization between the Packers and Brewers is night and day.

    Theres been a consistent problem with the operation the last 3 years. It isn’t always there, but Orzech (who is statistically usually one of the worst long snappers in the league) has always been the common denominator, no matter the kicker. Smack was perfect in pre season working with Adomitis,

    There has been one constant to the Packers kicking game since Crosby left, and until that constant is replaced, the situation isn’t improving. Hint: it’s not Smack, it’s not McManus, it’s not Anders Carlson, it’s not even Rich B.

    Death, taxes, and the Packers having the worst kicker in the NFL. Also your reminder again that the Packers cut the long snapper that Smack was working with all of training camp to keep Matt Orzech, who year after year is one of the worst snappers in the league.

    The check swing is probably 50/50 depending on which angle you look at it from, Just one of those that could have gone either way and you can’t really be upset about it either way (although they’re going to be). But it wasn’t some egregiously blown call, and if it gets called the other way the Rays don’t even score - Ashby just gets a shot at Aranda.

    Does anyone really believe that Ashby is unavailable on Monday? It’s Game 3 of the World Series. He is 100% available if they need him. Although, I’m sure they’d love to give him two off in a row.

    Only other Packer fans will relate to this, but I remember the Tramon Williams pick 6 off Matt Ryan in the 2010-11 divisional round just before halftime as the “they are not going to be stopped, are they?” moment of their Super Bowl run. I think Chourio walking off Miller will be remembered as that playoff moment for the Brewers.
