    MLF just said that Laken Tomlinson, who they just signed, might play at left guard or right guard, Tomlinson has been in the league for 11 years and has always played left guard. No wonder the line is constantly out of sorts and confused. Does MLF just think they are all interchangeable?

    You sure? Gutey said at the end of camp that not only was the line in good shape but we were worried about other teams purging our practice squad linemen.

    They are close enough in talent and record of course where I don’t have any real issue with this opinion. But - the Padres are red hot. They have won 17 out of 20. Facing a team peaking at the right time definitely scares me. I also have concerns facing a bullpen like theirs should we end up with a lot of close games, with a lineup like ours that is good but can also run hot and cold.

    Do you feel that we have a better chance of winning a 5 game series against the Cubs, or the Padres? To me, that is the only factor that matters.

    I can understand that. I think logically, all recent history, the pitching matchups, etc point to the Cubs being the better matchup for us. We have no reason to fear them. We’ve been the better team lately and shown it on the field. That said, if you want to argue “if their hitting gets hot they could be extremely dangerous” or “it might be like 5 road games if we get them again”, I can understand not preferring them. Just not “I’d be really bummed to lose again them.” Well okay, me too, but I’m not going to shy away from our hated rivals out of fear of that. Probably my biggest fear against the Padres is close matchups favoring bullpens — usually those are in our favor, not always the case against San Diego. Even trailing late against the Cubs you always feel like you still have a chance to pull it out. Not so much against the Padres.

    “Please not the Cubs because it would be so awful to be eliminated by them” is the baseball equivalent of “I’m never going to ask her out because what if she turns me down?”

    Let’s see how well “not even that bad” plays against the Dodgers lineup.

    Bullpen day is definitely gonna be Plan A after Miz and Henderson. Everyone else is going to be on a short leash, even Gasser. A lot more bullpening, piggybacking, and short starts in the playoffs from all but your best starters.

    You know what I hate so much about Luke Fickell? He’s the kind of HC that sits on 2 timeouts and lets the clock run out with 30 seconds left in the half rather than force the opposing team to punt on 4th down because he’s happy that he’s only down 10.

    You’d need to go back to about 1990 to the Lindy Infante/first year of Barry Alvarez era to find when the overall football product between the Packers and Badgers are both as bad as they’re going to be this year. Pretty depressing.

    There are still a few people out there, and of course the team narrative will be, that it’s only 3 games, it’s only 1-2, no big deal yet. I don’t think there’s a person in our locker room that believes that themselves, though. In past years or circumstances it might be absolutely true. You could easily go 1-2 from some bad bounces or a tough schedule. We’ve had neither bad bounces nor a tough schedule, and should frankly be 0-3. The bigger issue is, none of what we have going on seems very fixable. There isn’t a new offensive line walking through that door, This isn’t a 1-2 problem.

    Well — it’s effectively an exhibition game. We’re just trying to learn things. I think we learned that Bryse has roughly a 0% chance to sniff the postseason roster.

    You can’t possibly hand the ball to May over Gasser for Game 3, can you?

    A 48 yarder? Any modern kicker worth a roster spot can hit from 60 in their sleep these days, no one is missing short from 48. Anyway, can see in the video there’s no 11th man that comes from the end zone.

    I am not really sure what to think of Love. He seems like he would be fine in a good situation with weapons and blocking. Not elite, but Jared Goff or Dak Prescott fine. His stats this year are good enough but there’s a lot of garbage yards from having no run game at all. Sometimes he doesn’t really pass the eye test and misses quite a few throws. But to be fair I don’t know how much of that is from being completely uncomfortable in the pocket constantly.

    Can someone explain to me like I am 5 why there is this weird unwritten rule about not letting a coach enter the final year of his contract? It’s not really a thing with any player contracts — and if anything, THAT would make more sense since their contracts aren’t always guaranteed. It’s not like if the Packers can’t work out an extension with LVN that he’s not going to be back on the 5th year option next year and it’s not like it’s going to be some weird distraction. It’s not like Lafleur wouldn’t have coached in Green Bay this year without an extension. What I am saying is, after the way 2025 ended, even though it’s not the “norm” it was the exact perfect situation for Policy to wait and see on Gute and MLF for 2026, and to go start fresh if it didn’t work out. He absolutely screwed the franchise with the extensions, Now if the Packers go 4-13, he either has to gut it out with a wildly unpopular staff and front office and try to feign his way with whatever excuses he can come up with into the next few seasons, or he can pay tens of millions of dollars out of our coffers to staff for them not to work for us anymore. All the while paying the new staff. And there was absolutely no reason for it other than “that’s just the way it’s done.”

    Policy, Gute and MLF are definitely the big 3 to me that have to be separated from the organization. They’ve employed a good old boys system that lacks accountability for years and they were able to skate by with it when they could at least get 7 seeds and pretend they were right on the cusp. Now they’re finally paying the price and there’s no hiding anymore. Policy hasn’t held MLF or Gute accountable and subsequently, MLF hasn’t held his coaches responsible. The entire structure of the organization is rotten and really just needs to be gutted and start from fresh. The timing of the Parsons trade and extension couldn’t be worse as we’re loaded with bloated contracts and won’t be picking in the 1st in a very talented class when we’d finally have a high pick. I don’t know what they need to do to recover from this mess other than to say it’s going to be a multi year project and the guys in charge right now shouldn’t be the ones making those decisions.

    Falcons only had 10 players on the field when they blocked our field goal. You cannot make this stuff up.
