  1. No kidding . I'm not even sure he's an upgrade from any of Nelson, Anderson, Garza , Suter and Davies.
  2. My best guess -- The A's prefer the Yankees offer to our offer that doesn't include Brinson. They make one last attempt to leverage the Yankees offer to get Brinson from us, we refuse, and Gray heads to New York.
  3. So back on topic, it sounds like Gray is being held out of his next start, so if something's happening, it's happening very soon. A few different ways this could turn out. 1) Brewers cave and give up Brinson to deliver Gray 2) Another team caves and gives up a top end package to land Gray 3) A's cave and lower their ask and Gray ends up with us or someone else 4) Everyone holds firm and Gray stays put. I'd be happy with any scenario except #1.
  4. I can't even....this is just gold. I see you've been a board member for 10+ years, so you're obviously not 12. It's just...most people gain a sense of self-awareness over time and don't actually think that they're more qualified than the 30 men in the world deemed most qualified to run a Major League Baseball team.
  5. I think they want the lefty OF bat. The other option would have been Kyle Wren. Kirk has MLB experience and has had a nice time at Miller Park. I would guess if Phillips is still here come August he gets his job back of going back and forth when needed. I'm really not that high on Kyle Wren, but if he's quietly steaming, I wouldn't blame him. He far has outperformed Nieuwenhuis at the same level and probably deserved a crack. You're also adding a guy who strikes out at a Broxton rate to a team with already a ton of high K guys, where as Wren would at least have offered a different dimension. It's nothing but a familiarity move, and while I realize sometimes you need to look beyond the numbers, I think there are times that you need to reward the guy who is doimg the better job and give him his first shot. It can be very discouraging to some of them if you're consistently sending the message that performance doesn't matter.
  6. Broxton can return any day, Phillips too. Meanwhile, Brinson is pretty firmly in CF and Perez can also cover at any time. I just don't get it at all, what in the world was the point of bringing back Kirk Nieuwenhuis?
  7. Pretty easy to outright him to AAA as he will clear waivers and is already a sunk cost, so I'm guessing that's what they will do.
  8. It had better be really, really temporary. Even if it is, if I'm Kyle Wren, I'm pretty pissed, and rightfully so. Kirk has done absolutely nothing to earn a promotion back. We're talking about a league where Ivan DeJesus has a .918 OPS and Kirk still can't hit there.
  9. Peralta DFA is understandable, but Kirk coming back is just ridiculous and mind-boggling.
  10. You know that Mark A. ' not thinking twice' about that is part of the reason we got into this whole rebuilding mode in the first place, right? You do know that he hired Stearns for a reason, right? He is the boss, he could force Stearns' hand if he wanted to. Perhaps, just perhaps the reason he isn't doing that is that he is a smart businessman and billionaire aa you noted, and understands that leaving those decisions to DS is in the best interests of this franchise? I'm sure you are a passionate fan and I understand you want the team to win but you would be an absolute nightmare as a GM. Like, drive the franchise right back into the 90s type nightmare.
  11. Why is Wilkerson a 'must-add'? He's a nice story, but he's also a 28 year old minor league/independent ball journeyman. I can't see teams lining up to take him in the Rule 5.
  12. It is absolutely insane to try to project a guys entire career based on a small handful of MLB at-bats. Lewis Brinson has had 45 plate appearances st the MLB level. There is absolutely no way you can say what kind of player he will be at this point. Not every prospect is going to be Ryan Braun or Cody Bellinger from day 1. It just doesn't work like that. Aaron Judge had 95 plate appearances for the Yankees in 2016, and he was terrible. Can you imagine if they had simply thrown in the towel on him before the season and included him as part of a deal for Quintana or another pitcher that was on the trade block?
  13. I wish Gray had a bit more control, but I'm coming around to the idea of buying simply because it's been such a buyers market. Stearns is a smart guy -- he's surely taking note of this and perhaps sees it as an investment opportunity. Even if we fade this year, Ray for Gray, assuming the supplementary pieces aren't much, is a good value buy. You exchange a position of strength for a position everyone needs. They already havr multiple CFers that are at least either serviceable with some upside already at the MLB level (Broxton), or former/current top prospects with very good upside (Brinson, Phillips). On top of that you still have CF depth in the lower levels with Clark and Lutz. Then you have Gray and not only does he help you now but you also have multiple opportunities in the next couple years to either hold him if you're doing well, or flip him again if you're not, possibly at a time when it's more of a seller's market. So, I don't see anything wrong with taking advantage of a market opportunity, if you're comfortable with Gray's medicals.
  14. Yep. If we weren't going to include Brinson for Quintana, stands to reason we won't for Gray. The biggest dealbreaker to me for Brinson is not enough control. If I'm including Brinson in a deal I'm looking for a guy that can anchor my rotation for the next 4-5 years, like a Fulmer.
  15. If Kirk is indeed in Milwaukee, my guess is the situation is this: 'Hey Kirk, why don't you take a few days off from hitting . 220 in Colorado Springs, we'll fly you first class to Milwaukee and put you up in a suite for the weekend. That way in case we do end up making a big trade and wind up needing an outfielder in a serious pinch, you'll already be right there, and you can hang around Miller Park for a few days and collect a big league salary for a few days under we get things settled and DFA you again. Cool? My guess is that's the gist of it, explained in nicer terms to him.
  16. I do agree with Brewcrew in that there's probably nothing to this. Unless Brinson is headed to the DL and neither of Broxton or Phillips can be recalled this just makes absolutely no sense. Kirk hasn't even played well for Colorado Springs. There are enough guys on this team that can play the OF on this 25 and Brinson certainly isn't going to sit for Nieuwenhuis. Dubon, Wren, DeJesus -- any of these guys would be much better candidates to fill the open 40 man slot.
  17. Good thing you would never get worked into a frenzy
  18. Nelson/Anderson/Davies/Garza/Suter seems like the pretty likely rotation for the rest of the season once Anderson returns, which looks pretty solid. Guerra seems like a pretty easy choice for the first man out right now, but I'm not sure who would go after that if they went out and got Gray before the deadline. I doubt Suter was ever intended to be permanently in the MLB rotation, but you certainly can't take him out now. Not unless the rest of the league starts catching up to him and he puts up a couple duds, anyway.
  19. Yeah, I know Syndegaard is hurt right now, but he's a 24 year old ace under control through 2021. I love Hader, Woodruff, Ortiz, and Burnes, but if the Mets even pur Syndergaard up for sale, which they won't, that wouldn't get it done. We'd have to start with one of our own high end young MLB level players, probably Arcia or Santana, then part with Brinson and other top prospects, to even be in the running.
  20. I doubt he would say anything else. He wants his fans to feel good about trading their best pitcher. If their next best offer was Ray and Ortiz I would say that it is true.
  21. This inning honestly screams Hader, but Counsell will definitely go by the book.
  22. Too bad . Had a great shot for a crooked number.
  23. With the talent difference between the teams, if the Brewers slip to 4.5 back I can't see them hanging around for the stretch.
  24. Baseball players seem to generally have a weird sense of entitlement about them. So many unwritten rules. Can you imagine Harper behind closed doors? I just saw an article in the Huffington Post about baseball having a bad cocaine problem. Take that for what it's worth. Wouldn't shock me at all.
  25. ESPN proposed Corbin Burnes and Brett Phillips for Carlos Gomez. Who writes this crap?
