  1. Two times Junior has allowed hits to the pitcher with 2 strikes. Just terrible .
  2. Junior going to give the runs right back . He's been awful today, much worse than 2 runs indicates.
  3. I was at the last home game that they won Saturday before yesterday, and Williams was in RF, and there was a bachelor party near us, and let me tell you, they just heckled Williams relentlessly. Every inning. They got warned twice, I couldn't believe they didn't get ejected. I blame them.
  4. Can't keep walking guys and expect not to get bit sooner or later.
  5. Would be nice if this offense could get it going for more than 1 day.
  6. Thames has chased some really bad pitches in both ABs. Bad plays with the glove, too. For being this early he's having a brutal day so far.
  7. We hired Stearns with the long-term goal of building a consistent winner in Milwaukee. Not to build one by 2017 or else. Or to make panic moves in July because he's worried people will start watching the Packers.
  8. Funny thing about you saying 'meh' is that Garcia's career ERA, FIP, WHIP, and K/9 are almost all right in line with Quintana, who you were good with paying heavily for. Garcia is only 2 years older and would obviously cost a lot less. My only issue is that he's not a controllable asset and I don't care for rentals at this stage.
  9. It drives me nuts when guys don't even bother to run out a strikeout in the dirt or dropped. You never know when a throw might sail or a shorthop might get by at 1st. It costs you nothing to try.
  10. Guerra's stuff looked much better in his last outing. Hope it continues.
  11. That said, I'm not optimistic that the Sogard honeymoon phase is going to last much longer.
  12. That's absurd. No one knew that Bellinger was going to come up and do what he's doing right now until he actually started doing it. Jurkinson Profar was the #2 prospect in baseball and he's been terrible. Rickie Weeks was a more highly rated prospect than Ryan Braun. Matt Moore was a can't miss, #3 overall prospect in baseball in 2011, and he's been a terrible pitcher in San Francisco. You can't state that your philosophy is to trade unknown prospects for proven MLB players every time, and when I point out that you'll miss out on guys like Bellinger with that philosophy, come back and say that when you have a special player you just "know."
  13. I mean I know Broxton strikes out way too much and it's a problem he needs to fix if he's going to be a career starting caliber CF at the MLB level, but if you're expecting Phillips to be a big upgrade in that department you're likely going to be disappointed.
  14. Traded to the Rays.
  15. Neither do GMs who end up trading stars because they're chasing after the next 'proven' commodity time after time and never have the patience to find out what they have in their prospects. Tyler Thornburg was controllable and proven. How's that working out for Boston?
  16. Scahill DFA again. Peralta I'm guessing?
  17. For real? Are you legit concerned about this right now? What, because you can cover failures on the field for a few years with the "we are sticking to a plan" means you have total job security in perpetuity? It's a legit question. If I'm Attanasio, I'd want to see at least several guys he's traded for and drafted performing at high levels in the big leagues by 2019 or I'm starting to ask some serious questions if "the plan" was merely a method to insure job security. How Stearns handles this unexpected contention this year by maximizing the team's chances without gutting the system completely will say a lot about his skill. Claiming Vogt was a positive move, but he let the Cubs get the jump on him for the difference maker when the Brewers were up by 5 1/2 games. Its a silly question in context right now because he's doing a great job, and Mark A has expressed nothing but confidence in him. He 'let the Cubs get the jump on him' because the offense went into a slump . Happens. I also think it's silly to even imply "the plan" was suggested for job security .for Stearns. Every fan alive and Mark A himself knew that we were rebuilding when Stearns was hired. Its why he was hired. Obviously there's going to be a long-term plan for a rebuild.
  18. Overall over time, teams have a 66% chance of scoring more than 0 runs with a runner on 3rd and 1 out, and a 63% chance with a runner on 2nd and one out. I would not classify 3% as huge, nor overriding of the risk of a failed sac. IMO I would guess that the 66% would be further reduced in this situation by a high strikeout pitcher.
  19. My goodness, talk about cherry picking numbers with Perez. He also had 3 K's in his last 18 AB's which is a 16% K rate. Or 9 in 47 June AB's, which is 19%. So which are the numbers that matter to you? Just the ones that support your argument?
  20. I've actually got more confidence in Hughes than Barnes at this point in time. Don't get me wrong, Barnes is good -- most of the time. But when he's bad, he seems to be really bad.
  21. I'd at least understand a little better if you've got the bottom of the order coming up. Still would disagree, but it would make a little more sense to me. To me with the heart of your order coming up, great hitters but strikeout threats, yeah. I agree it wasn't the right strategy.
  22. I don't know why you keep talking about Perez like he's such a threat to strikeout if you have him hit away. Perez has terrible plate discipline but he's good at putting the ball in play. He strikes out at a much lower rate than both Shaw and Santana. He hasn't been hot but he hasn't been striking out much, either. Could he strike out? Sure. But Shaw is even more likely to K with Thames standing on 3rd with 1 out. Then the sac bunt is wasted, you're up to 2 out and you still need a hit anyway.
  23. And in his entire career before this year he has never played under 135 games without being suspended or missing time due to being in the minors. Your numbers are just ridiculously pessimistic. He's also obviously older than at any prior point in his career and his body is pretty clearly breaking down at an alarming rate, as we're talking about multiple injuries and ailments, not one specific nagging injury that can be addressed in the off-season. This was after an off-season where he claimed to be as healthy as he's ever been. I think it's fairly clear you can throw that 135 out the window after this year. Perhaps 80 is pessimistic, and I certainly hope it is. But if I had to bet on 300 starts on him from 2018-2020? 100 starts per year? I'd take the under.
