  1. Yeah, Pina has a 1.7 WAR this year . I don't see a big team need there.
  2. Yeah, I don't get this. 1- Pina has been very solid and Vogt looks like a capable complement to him. It's not like we're starting Chad Moeller. 2 - We don't need to be in the business of rentals, unless they cost peanuts, and.. 3 - Lucroy isn't going to cost peanuts. He's not having a great year but he has a very established track record, and it's not like he's been a disaster this year. The Rangers have no motivation to just dump him for nothing. It's not like he's a salary dump candidate. They want bullpen help. They'll get it, or they'll hold onto him. We need that bullpen help more than we need another catcher. They would want someone like Barnes for Lucroy, and we're not doing that nor should we. 4 - Even if the Rangers were going to trade Lucroy for peanuts, do you think it would be back to us? Give up a haul of prospects for a catcher and then trade him back to the same team for a bag of balls less than a year later? Talk about a terrible PR move. Lucroy will probably end up getting dealt, but it won't be back to Milwaukee. We're just not a fit right now on any level.
  3. Villar is not comparable at all. Totally different contract proposal, Villar we were just basically buying out arbitration years. Also Arcia has an incredible glove, much more of a sure bet to have positive value going forward than Villar . Also kind of hard to 'learn' anything from the Villar situation half a year in -- it's still no certainty that the $20M offer would look like a bad deal for us in 4 years . Remmeber when people were relieved that Jean Segura didn't sign his extension offer? Either way, it's kind of silly to dismiss an extension for Arcia on the grounds that Villar hasn't been good this year. If there's any ideal long-term extension candidate on this team to build around, it's Arcia. He could be locked up for 8 years and still only be 30 by the time his contract ends . Villar and Arcia not comparable? Both players one year into majors(2016 Villar), both SS really with hopefully a plus bat, both have upside in other areas (Villar SB, Arcia Def), both Brewers, both probable similar extension contracts thru arbitration, four or five years(Villar contract specifics weren't made known except for $20 mil, not years or player/team options), both questionable bats with a small window of success (thus far). Wisely dismiss the idea unless the deal would be ultra team friendly. Yes, not comparable at all. "Both questionable bats?" What? I guess that's easy to say about Villar after he's struggled for half a season now, but his bat was the only reason we offered him an extension to begin with. Very different types of prospects coming up, different ages and career stage. Most importantly, they could not be more different types of players. Villar's struggles this year have nothing to do with Arcia and do not represent a red flag for Arcia. They are both middle infielders. That's about as deep as the similarities lie .
  4. Stay what course? Aren't we about picking up leftover garbage on the cheap, polishing it up, and getting some bang for our buck? Now, that course fits this transaction. Do you think the Rangers are going to trade Lucroy back to us for pennies on the dollar? Not happening. The Rangers want bullpen help for Lucroy, and names like Carlos Torres and Oliver Drake certainly aren't going to do it for them. We have enough bullpen issues of our own without trading one of our few useful pen arms for a 3 month rental of a catcher that we don't have a pressing need for.
  5. Guerra needs to head to the DL, Colorado Springs, something. His stuff is so hittable right now it's not even funny.
  6. I'll be plenty satisfied to win ours. Don't see the Cubs blowing another lead.
  7. Why not? They'd still have Phillips, Cordell, Harrison, and Clark in the system . Keston could wind up in the OF as well. I'm not advocating for doing something like this but if you want to get into bidding wars at the deadline, much less anytime, for the top guys out there, you don't get to take chips off the table . It took the top prospect in baseball to land Sale, and the White Sox aren't asking for much less on Quintana. Several contenders could blow away an offer of just either Brinson or Ray plus some other decent lesser pieces.
  8. Yeah I don't think Ray+Dubon + Clark is getting it done . Too much competition, too many teams are going to top that. Brinson is probably an insisted piece. I'm guessing Brinson+Ray to get them talking, would have to be the centerpieces of the deal. Then if you gave them either Ortiz or two prospects from a list of Dubon, Erceg, Burnes, Cordell, and Bickford, you MIGHT land Quintana.
  9. I really would like avoid dealing Woodruff if at all possible. I'd be much more willing to deal Ortiz. All I ask in any buy deal is that it be for controllable assets that can help in the future or flipped again if things don't work out. Absolutely no big ticket Sabathia type rentals.

  11. It's tough to peg value out that far in the future, and I'd be fine with $12M/$15M, or whatever, even better, but I thought I was including a discount. I'm guessing by 2024 when the $20M would hit, $20M won't buy peanuts .
  12. Orlando Arcia definitely looks like the future at SS for the Brewers, and I wonder what you guys would think of a long-term extension in the neighborhood of 7-8 years with him. Yes, he's under control already for 5+ more seasons, but perhaps he would be interested in some long -term security now with the Brewers also benefiting by getting him for a lesser price now than having to throw ridiculous money around in free agency. This affirms our belief in Arcia as a young cornerstone. I valued his remaining pre-arby years after this one at a generous $1M each, then $4M, $6M, and $8M for his arby years. Then buy out two free agent years at $16M and $20M each, for a final price tag of 7 years, $56M after this season. Thoughts?
  13. Looks like it's Bad Broxton's turn for awhile now again .
  14. Or just swing at a pitch up around your head and strike out on 3 pitches, whatever floats your boat I guess.
  15. Come on Braun, you could blow this one open in a hurry.
  16. I was hoping Woodruff would be back by now . He'd be the obvious fill-in answer for Chase.
  17. Thames 3 for his last 40. Bandy had a worst last month but Thames is giving him a run for his money.
  18. Davies with his patented 'Let's just spot em a couple right off the bat ' first innings tonight. With Davies having mediocre stuff he can hardly afford not to have command .
  19. Huh? Where did you see this, at the game? Every single day on Usinger commercials watching on FSN.
  20. Not picking on you specifically, but the general reaction by many to closers. Mariano Rivera has a career ERA of 2.11 - he gave up two earned runs every nine innings. It will happen. The best closers in baseball aren't perfect. Don't expect 1-2-3 innings, don't expect to not ever give up any earned runs. It's the performance over an entire season. I never expected him to be. Knebel is awesome . I love Knebel . I'm just pointing out that last night, he did not have it at all. Fortunately, they still won.
  21. So that's actually 41 straight for Knebel relative to Chapman's record of 49, right?
  22. Strike one was a gift call, strike 2 was a gift swing at a pitch head high . Then Knebel made one good pitch, fortunately that was all it took. That was as ugly and lucky of a 2 K scoreless save as you can possibly see from Knebel. Hope he got it out of his system, and the important thing is we were still able to get the W.
