  1. I think he's a real nice story, but I hope this is the last time we see Espino make a start for the Brewers.
  2. Damn. Good that they made Cueto work but they really needed to get more than 1 out of all that.
  3. Braun seems to be a love or hate guy. Not much in between.
  4. Sure seems like he's ready. But two factors to consider. First, is he mentally and physically ready? Could be some refinement they're still working on with him. And since he's been in MLB already and got knocked around a little, you really want to be sure he comes up with confidence. Potentially, he's not just an option for the present but for the future as well. (As opposed to the Cravys and Blazeks, etc.) So, if you can, you want to avoid the yo-yo of going back and forth between MLB and AAA. Secondly, who does he replace? Not long ago nobody would have a problem dumping Hughes. Then he turned in a couple of exceptional outings. Every guy in the Brewers pen has had success in the past, most in the very recent past. So you want to be careful about giving up on guys too soon. My choice would probably be DFA Franklin, option Scahill, purchase contract of Wang and promote him to 25. That way you can keep Phillips up too, and you've got 2 good options against lefties in the pen.
  5. So we have a rotation that is near the best in the league for ERA, and a bullpen that has carried 8 pitchers most if not all of the season, and still have 3 of the most overworked relievers in baseball. That seems tough to pull off.
  6. My heart says use Peralta here, my head says don't screw around, just use Knebel.
  7. Can't really blame Keon for that one. Just one of those things when things aren't going well.
  8. I’m not sure I’ve ever felt as bad for a kid as I did when he was traded. I would have traded him too because the haul he was bringing was necessary… but there are very few more obvious cases of a team and/or city being a necessary comfort than Jeffress and Milwaukee. I would love to bring him back. I agree. He's probably on the DFA border right now anyway. I'd gladly do a classic PTBNL/cash deal to bring him back.
  9. A little more insurance would be nice and then maybe we can avoid using Corey.
  10. Might have stuck with Hughes for one more inning after such a quick 7th. I can't blame them for going with the guys that we trust to nail this down, just don't want to end up in a situation again where we had neither Barnes nor Knebel available on the same day.
  11. I agree. Long-term I still think he's a good defensive player, he showed that last year. He's in a funk right now and he'll get hot again. That's how it goes for players like him. I have no problem with trading him if they get a good offer and choose to go that route.
  12. Nice to see Villar swinging a good bat tonight.
  13. If you want Broxton benched for Phillips because of K's, I don't know if Phillips is your guy. He is probably going to be the one guy that can give Broxton a run for his money there.
  14. I can't imagine that there is a streakier player in Brewer history than Broxton. Anyway, tie game.
  15. Nice job Pina! It's great to see someone get the job done with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs even when they make an out.
  16. Not a good day when you're hitting a better with an 0-2 pitch, particularly the leadoff one.
  17. No kidding. Watching in real time I thought to myself, 'That's getting overturned. ' All of the sudden Nelson just getting hammered.
  18. Corey Knebel will be a Super 2 player next year if I am interpreting his service time correctly. Probably a rather expensive one if he's a 'closer'. Pretty much every aspect of baseball has moved on to the 21st century while the arbitration process is still stuck in 1985, it's kind of funny.
  19. Not sure where the June 22nd thing was mentioned but there's nothing significant about that date as far as I know. Brewers are safe on that additional control. They could bring Brinson up today and still control him for 6 seasons after this one (2018-2023).
  20. I'd be all for it if he was still in the 40. But he's not. If you're going to jettison someone from the 40 for another SP it might as well be Woodruff.
  21. Yeah I agree. Still got to work him in to try to get him going but it doesn't make much sense to have the guy who gets on base the least at the top. I know we're not brimming with great leadoff options vs. LHP but Villar doesn't belong there again until he can earn it back.
  22. I wouldn't start Peralta. He's not really stretched out anymore anyway but if we are going to try to make it work with him in the pen we need to stay committed to it. I would certainly be more excited about Woodruff, but assuming we're going to go with someone already on the 40 I'm fine with giving Espino one more spot start and seeing how it goes.
  23. For sure. Early in the yesr I honestly saw nothing in the guy. Seemed like every pitch was ankle high in the zone hoping to induce either a ground ball or swing and miss. Looked like a completely different pitcher in Game 1 of the Giants' series. Anyway, he's had some success career wise at this level depending on what stats you go by so we'll see what happens .
