    An official scorer should be able to rule “team error” on a play like that. Some use of common sense should be allowed. A pop up on the infield should never be a “single”.

    It would be really nice if we could get an update on Lara. It’s not normal for one of your top prospects to just suddenly be out a week with no explanation. Probably the most frustrating thing about following the farm system is the ever constant air of mystery when it comes to personnel moves.

    I remember toward the end of last season that there were plenty of folks convinced that it would be better for us to be the 2 seed for matchups. Of course the 1 is great if we can get it but a tall ask, I’m good if we can just win the division and not have to play a WC series, that alone increases your odds quite a bit. After that just hope to get lucky and hot. We were the 1s last year and got absolutely dusted.

    I think it’s fair to say “we have the rotation” if you’re assuming a healthy back end of Henderson, Woodruff and Priester. Unfortunately that has not been the case and I think if we can have 2 out of 3 of those healthy in September it will be a victory.

    Division title for sure, but really you need to make moves with being a top 2 seed in mind. Don’t want to be the 3rd division winner. Just makes such a big difference in your WS odds to not have to go through the extra crapshoot round.

    We have the 3rd best record in baseball. Yet if the season ended today, we’d host the Padres for a series at AmFam in the Wild Card round and if they simply won a short 3 game series from us, our season would be over. Baseball’s playoff format sucks.

    One quiet solace for all small market sports fans who have to watch the Dodgers buy their way to the top every year is the comforting knowledge that pretty much as long as I’ve ever known, the ESPN favorite Knicks always suck. Now we don’t even have that.

    I’ve been a big Otto Lopez guy. The best player that for some reason no one knows about. So underrated.

    It’s gotten to the point where I would guess they are talking trades to other teams. Nothing Skubal level but something because they are running out of reinforcements.

    Yes, they can. For example if Uribe throws 30 pitches tonight and Murphy would have given him the day off tomorrow anyway, they can drop the appeal and serve next game.

    I think the interesting part about our offense is how many times in recent years I feel like we have said “man, the Brewers just can’t score unless they hit home runs.” If you told me simply that how many home runs they have hit and where they rank in that category this year I would assume that things have been a major struggle on offense.

    Well said. I’m genuinely curious for those who are high on Sproat if they genuinely like what they’ve seen, or if it’s just a regurgitation of what else has been said. Sproat’s fastball isn’t particularly impressive at least from what I’ve seen. The velocity is there but it’s a flat pitch that plays less than the actual velocity and lacks movement. When he doesn’t command it, which is often, it gets hit hard. The secondary stuff is a deep pitch mix, and some of it is okay, particularly the sweeper but there’s nothing in his arsenal that stands out well enough that makes me believe he’s going to be special. He does okay in spurts when everything is working just right and then we’re right back to the command problems. I understand that the Brewers would know better than me and there’s always a chance with what they do they can turn this guy around. But they are not infallible and I guess for me, I just don’t see anything more than hopefully a guy who can be a future regular at the back end of a rotation.

    Nothing would make me happier than revisiting this in a year and having to say “wow, was I ever wrong about Sproat.”

    A few extra dollars gained? His salary increased about 6 times over from $127,100 to $780,000 annually the day he was called up and that will continue for the duration of his injury and rehab now. Just as importantly, the major league service time that will accrue all throughout this time means that he will end up receiving an MLB pension which players are vested in after 43 days of service time. I’m obviously not trying to say that he should be glad that he blew out his elbow, but for a 26 year old at AAA who only got a call because of injuries and had an uncertain future in MLB, the things I listed above are important things.
