Well, you’ve got the tying run at the plate with nobody out. You aren’t going to get a better (and probably another) shot at getting back in this in a hurry.

I wish Chourio had shown the kind of discipline and patience he showed there when he was up earlier with the bases loaded.

I think we all assumed Mona had at least earned a few starts a week rotating at 2-3 positions when Ortiz came back. I’ve been really disappointed with Murphy’s process on that.

Like I said, I know Bauers has been playing decently. But this isn’t a guy who is going to go on the kind of streak that Vaughn did and carry the offense for an extended period.

I refuse to believe that the moment Jake Bauers finally returned from IL being exactly when we started going from elite to mediocre is a coincidence. (Yes, I know he’s been playing well).

I think at this point, the Phillies will pass us. We do have the tiebreaker, so there’s a tiny cushion there, but they’re just playing too well. They’d have to hit a skid in a hurry. It doesn’t really matter whether we’re the 2 or 1. We’ll get dusted in the NLDS quickly the way we’re playing. Play the way we were playing in July and we can win it all. Play this way and it will be a quick exit.

I pretty much agree, but a few weeks ago even losing our grip on the 1 seed seemed pretty unrealistic.

While the second paragraph is true, the reason is because the Cubs haven’t gone on an extended hot run like the Phillies have. It wasn’t because we haven’t been giving them the opportunity. It wasn’t long ago that the Phillies were also 7+ back.

Hanging slider right down the middle. This digging of his heels by Murphy on Miz is just so bizarre. He’s pacing way over any previous workload, he’s not been good most of the time, and frankly, his confidence is probably not in a great place at the moment. Let it go. Plenty of guys start in the pen. It’s not the time to try to be forcing a young pitcher to grow up.

We’re not hanging onto the 1 seed, guys. Might as well take that Phillies magic number and flush it. Just focus on winning the division.

The Cubs aren’t catching the Brewers. They’re too many games back with too few to play to worry about anything other than a catastrophic collapse. The Phillies are a legitimate concern. I’m accepting of the possibility that we might not hold them off, but holding off the Cubs is far more important.

I know there are lot of things to be desired about the way we have played over the last month, but if you want to see a team that is actually choking in real time, look no further than the New York Mets. Couldn’t happen to a nicer team.

That said, if we clinch the division with say, 5 games left, but are tied with the Phillies at that time, is it possible we could refrain from the annual huge bender that day where everyone is too hungover to play the next day until AFTER the season when we have like a week break?

Well they kind of have the opposite problem now, he hasn’t pitched in a week. So they may want to get him some work.

Koenig literally got screwed on 3 pitches that inning and the Cardinals are barking in the dugout like some major injustice was done to them. Amazing. Never change, St Louis Cardinals.

And then just going to whine and cry when actual strikes start getting called strikes in typical Cardinals fashion.
