So the player who is far worse for his career and still has an OPS 50 points lower and a batting average 20 points lower than William this year despite William’s struggles is going to be a better option? Seems like more of an emotional move than a rational one.

As enjoyable as this season has been, if this team can’t win the division, you can just see the writing on the wall for Wild Card. Lose 3 game series. Rinse. Repeat in 2026. If the Brewers were an NFL team, they’d be the Minnesota Vikings.

He's always hit for a lot of power, including a 49 HR season for the Reds in 2019 (and before you say Great American Ballpark, over half of those HR were on the road). So my guess would be variance. Would I expect him to continue to average a 50 HR a year pace, no. But he’d still be the top HR threat in our lineup from the day we acquired him. -

While the “fit” questioning is valid, dissecting his HR numbers seems like random statistical noise to me. Chase Field has a lower HR park factor than American Family Field. Of any concern I have with Suarez, his power not translating to AmFam isn’t one of them. -

Yeah, most deadlines are like this. A few deals here and there in the days leading up to the deadline and then a flurry of activity in the last few hours on the last day. -
Maybe I’m reading between the lines too much but that seems to be code for prepping to dial him back to a reliever role, or at least a piggyback role. That’s really the only way to manage his innings while keeping him up the whole time. There’s no point in keeping him on the 26 if you’re going to shut him down for long periods in between starts. That would just be a waste of a roster spot.

He was one of those short term cult hero type players. I don’t think people fully remember how good he was at everything when he was totally on, though. Power, speed, and defense. His flaw unfortunately was a major one. His bat had an enormous hole in it.

Nah. Contreras is fine. It would be great if he went back to being “great”, but he’s still been fine. I think you’re overestimating how good the average MLB catcher is. If you think trading Hader in first place was a risky move, imagine benching the guy who works with this pitching staff every single day.

Someone said the other day in the trade discussions that Ortiz is better than Otto Lopez, so why acquire him. Yeah, no.

He’s not. He’s had pitches in the zone called a ball.

This umpire is freaking awful. At least 4 blown calls against the Brewers in this half inning alone. I can’t even be mad at Perkins for chasing there. When you have this trash can behind the plate, anything might be called a strike.
