  1. To be fair, Tobias has probably gotten the most impactful call so far tonight. They just need to get the robot or challenge system implemented already so we can stop witnessing this garbage night after night. Even the staunchest traditionalist knows that it is inevitable.
  2. I guess the umpire felt like he needed to make the one on Lindor up on Yelich. That was freaking terrible.
  3. Tobias caught a huge break on that call. That could have easily been 2-0 with the bases still loaded and no end in sight.
  4. Not great. Another poor umpire with a tight zone isn’t helping.
  5. Who? Seems like we did what almost every team does, a minor move here and a minor move there. The team who made the biggest move was Seattle and they got squat out of it so far.
  6. 5 games up. We gotta win the division and get that top 2 seed. I don’t want anything to do with a 3 game playoff series this year.
  7. Anyone still totally not ok with Yelich seeing the pine sometimes against lefties? That was absolutely atrocious.
  8. It honestly probably won’t be a problem at all. It’s not like it’s a bad thing if Collins, Yelich, Chourio, Turang, Vaughn, Contreras, and Frelick all get one day off a week or so down the stretch. Durbin is already getting more days off than that. So they’ll sprinkle in Perkins, Jansen, and Hoskins when the other guys need a break. Monasterio, Seigler, and Lockridge probably take the biggest hits if everybody is fully healthy but that’s fine. They are bench players. And that’s just if everyone is fully healthy.
  9. I’m no big fan of Hoskins, and I agree whatever is best for the team should be done. With that said, if you evaluate them both as DH’s — bat only, it is very hard to say that when a left handed pitcher is on the mound, Yelich is a better option than Rhys.
  10. It seems easy enough, but Chourio should return around the same time as Rhys. None of Collins, Chourio or Frelick should be sitting much.
  11. It doesn’t have to be a hard platoon. As the LH bat in the platoon, he’s already going to default to starting 72% of the time. Of the remaining 28% you could sit him half and play him in the OF half the time, which averages out to about a start a week in left and a day off every week, which isn’t that big of a deal and could probably be beneficial. Also I guess I just don’t really understand the logic that Hoskins is going to be understanding about being benched entirely but asking Yelich to sit a small percentage of the time against LHP starters is going to be this enormous clubhouse distraction. Hoskins is a veteran who is playing for another contract. He’s going to want to play. And obviously Yelich does too, but I think he realizes that there’s a lot of guys on the team that deserve to play and any decision made isn’t going to be easy.
  12. Discussing the Hoskins plan when he gets back — I don’t think either player is going to like this very much but I don’t know if anything makes more sense than a straight up DH platoon of Yelich and Hoskins.
  13. Yeah, Lockridge would get more starts. Frelick can also play CF if needed. Not ideal because Collins probably has to go to RF to accommodate Yelich in LF. I don’t think you can really play Yelich anywhere in the field except LF at this point in his career unless it’s on an emergency basis. But they could limp by for a couple weeks assuming Chourio makes it back by the end of August. My guess is Lockridge would start most days.
  14. I brought that up on page 5 as well, but at the time I mentioned it was probably going to be a red herring as he would probably be non-tendered next year anyway, which is looks like I’ll be mistaken about. Adam McCalvy has been a beat writer for long enough where he should be well versed on the 172 day big league requirement for a full service year and should know that can be easily manipulated in a 185-190 day season with a short trip to the minors. I mean that with no disrespect to @wiguy94who is indeed an intelligent poster.
  15. It was his 3rd 0 for 5 in 114 games. It will occasionally happen when you hit at the top of the lineup every day.
  16. Yup. There’s basically no difference between a solo HR and a walk up 5-3 in the 9th. That pitch may have been a little *too* good, but I’d much rather him pound the zone and get ahead than nibble and then all of the sudden be down 3-1 and lose him.
  17. He’s probably fine. His numbers are still reliable enough. You’ve got other guys who will be under a bit of an innings watch. And you just traded Cortes who was probably the biggest threat to Quintana. That said, I wouldn’t expect to see him get the ball to start any playoff game.
  18. I know it’s become cliche to criticize the lineups when Seigler is in it, but let me put this another way. Durbin has been improving throughout the season, particularly against right handed pitching. He’s too good to all of the sudden find himself on the weak end of a platoon and has earned better than that.
  19. Collins looked a little irritated. Not sure if with himself for a bad jump or with Yelich for not making contact on a designed hit and run.
  20. It seems like you started off this post with one point and then changed your mind on it by the end of it.
  21. Yep. Another thing to keep in mind is that we waived Lauer before outrighting him. Every team in baseball could have had him for no compensation, just pay him, and every team in baseball chose not to. There will always occasionally be guys that, for whatever reason, things don’t click here long-term and they end up figuring it out elsewhere. It’s usually the other way around, but other teams have professionals who are trying to do the same things we are. Sometimes, it clicks elsewhere, and that’s ok. We’re too good of a team to have a ton of patience with everyone, and that’s a good thing. In general, our track record says pitchers are more likely to come here and get right, than have it happen elsewhere. For those that the reverse is true, I congratulate them on their success and wish them the best.
