  1. Is Matt Carpenter the one who flew off the handle and got himself tossed over a pitch that was almost perfect last time we saw these guys?
  2. Double plays giveth, and double plays taketh away tonight.
  3. Well, anybody confident that 4 runs is going to be enough?
  4. Aguilar can take Franklin with him, too. The back end of this bench is brutal. Would think DeJesus will be getting a promotion pretty soon here.
  5. Totally expected Davies to come out for one more with only 81 pitches. I swear Counsell has a Magic 8 Ball in the dugout that he uses to decide when to pull the starter because they all seem to be gut based. At least Torres got through a scoreless inning.
  6. Didn't see it, but it's inexplicable to me that a guy who is clearly hanging onto a roster spot by a thread would not run out a grounder. If he truly was dogging it, I would not surprised to see him get his DFA tomorrow.
  7. I have no idea what they're waiting on with Aguilar. The Spring Training honeymoon is over. He's terrible. There's no need to waste a roster spot on a backup 1B that doesn't hustle and can't hit.
  8. No kidding. Move over a guy who is already in scoring position with nobody out with a .400 hitter to set him up for a guy who strikes out constantly and doesn't have a hit in 3 weeks?
  9. I don't know how it really looked but Gameday showed that 1-2 pitch to Shaw as not even being close to a ball.
  10. A 4 run lead is pretty meaningless with this pitching staff.
  11. For some reason I've really come to hate Kolten Wong. No idea why.
  12. I'll find it highly enjoyable in 2 years watching the Cardinals get half the production out of their 36 year old catcher as we'll get out of both of ours for 20 times the price of both combined.
  13. Broxton has been really frustrating this year at the plate. Last year when he was off, he was just off, and when he was on, he was on. This year, he'll get you thinking he's finally starting to break out of it again and literally the same or next day it'll be right back to square one.
  14. Walked away figuring the inning was over when Davies comes up with 2 out, and wouldn't you know he gets in and Villar goes deep!
  15. Isn't he kind of speaking out of turn? We don't even know if Milone will clear waivers yet. Lot of rotation desperate teams out there -- Mets and Angels in particular. If he starts in AAA, it'll be one of the filler starters getting bumped. Hader and Woodruff are plenty safe.
  16. Aguilar doesn't have a hit since April 11th and hasn't reached base since April 19th. I know he hasn't had regular playing time but he can't be far from playing himself out of a job.
  17. By 'MLB level' are you referring to an average acceptable MLB rotation, or ours? Because I would bet he would be one of our best 5 starters right now. Not saying that I'm advocating calling him up and sticking him in the rotation right now.
  18. Hader has done nothing but struggle at AAA. He needs to continue to refine his control. Honestly, he's not very close to the majors. Also, all 3 need to continue to build on their inning totals, not limit them. I do think we could see Lopez and Woodruff in a month, but only as starters. We could dramatically improve our pen by staying patient with the guys we have. They all pitched better as last year wore on, and will likely do so again. The only reliever that worries me is Torres, he's older and his curveball looks like mush. However, he doesn't need to pitch high leverage innings, so he's fairly inconsequential right now. Don't really agree Hader has done nothing but struggle, his numbers are not too bad for Colorado Springs though he's still walking too many. I can see your point on building his innings, though many think he'll wind up in the pen anyway so I guess it just depends what you believe in that. I don't think he's that far away from MLB. Lopez pitched winter ball, not sure how many innings he logged but I would assume that if he keeps up his current pace as a starter you'll end up having to shut him down relatively early.
  19. So in June after they safely clear Super 2, isn't it time to bring up all of Lopez, Hader, and Woodruff and stick them all in the pen? Hader has nothing left to prove, he's ready, and Woodruff is pitching great in Colorado. Lopez too in Biloxi -- at some point, you need to just see what you've got in the guy and find out if he's still a legit pitching prospect. If all goes well, this could drastically improve the pen quickly. I realize we hope to make starters out of these guys eventually but the reality this year is that we're going to have to limit their innings, especially Lopez, and pitching out of the pen is one way to do that while still contributing.
  20. Scahill never really said anything out of line, that was Cravy. Scahill more or less just said he was upset because he thought he had earned a spot. Not a big deal.
  21. There is still a chance that a lefty or starter desperate team could take a shot at him and take the remaining 1M+ or so off our hands. Maybe not a great shot, but a shot. You'd have to think if any team does it it would be the Mets. That team's rotation has been destroyed by injuries.
