  1. Medeiros sure does a good job of making me appreciate Ponce, Burnes, and Diplan.
  2. Don't know why but after Nelson gave up that first bomb, even up 5-2 I just didn't have a very good feeling about this game.
  3. Better than the Dodgers? In 1st on July 31st? Holy cow we are getting way carried away about an 8-7 start. We still have a very young team that will have peaks and valleys, and as much as I hate them, we play in the same division as the defending champs who are still loaded and will probably run away with the division. We have 147 out of 162 games remaining. In NFL terms we are at the 2 minute warning of the opening game of the year. This last week has been fun, and I'm one of those who thinks this team could surprise some this year, but we have probably less than a 1% chance of finishing ahead of the Cubs or Dodgers this year.
  4. Gave up a bunch of runs... Got some people out.... Mixed. Did not give his team a chance to win, put it that way. Still makes no sense to me why you have a quick hook with your starters all year and then change philosophy with a struggling one. Whatever, this game is probably over now anyway.
  5. Carl Edwards Jr. I picture a race car driver eating at Hardees.
  6. I really thought Counsell was going to be less of a conventional manager, and sometimes, he makes me want to believe he is. At other times, I see the same old, 'This is our 7th inning guy ', '8th inning guy ', that I heard out of Yost and RE. He doesn't seem in love with the bunt, so I'll give him that.
  7. Hughes is a pure junkballer. His career ERA is pretty miraculous.
  8. I really don't understand Counsell sometimes. He's routinely pulled starters who were going along well after 5 with 80 pitches, Nelson clearly didn't have it tonight and he still rides him to a predictable result in the 6th even after his spot came up in the top half. Makes no sense.
  9. Well, hopefully the offense can keep it up. Nelson was bound to get lit up one of these games.
  10. Broxton is just lost right now. He's guessing on everything and I can't remember the last AB that he wasn't down 0-2 or 1-2. I don't know what the answer is to break out of it again, try getting a bunt down or something but he's in a funk.
  11. He's fouling off anything good. Just doesn't seem to be right right now. But yeah he's getting into too many unfavorable counts.
  12. Remember back in the 90s when you watched a game on a 27 inch screen in regular def and it seemed fine? Now we have 60 inch screens, and if it's regular def, we're all like, 'What is this crap? I can't even see this.'
  13. Windmill went with his first instinct first then changed his mind.
  14. If only you hadn't been held up and taken to your computer at gunpoint and forced to participate in this thread. Seriously though, that's the purpose of this part of the forum. It was already discussed by some as soon as Thames was acquired whether or not the intent was to acquire him as a long-term option or whether he would quickly be considered as a trade asset.
  15. Bellinger I'm certain is off limits. We're not getting him. While Braun has value and is reinforcing it this year you're still ignoring the age/cost effects against Braun's trade value. You can't compare every player's production straight up to other players. A 28 year old with 5 years and 38M left of control is already worth considerably more than a 33 year old with 4 years and 76M left of control just on the basis of age and money before you even start evaluating production.
  16. I'm not really advocating for Thames to be traded, I think the points for keeping him are good ones. But I think if Stearns signed an unknown from Korea for 5M a year, and then flipped him for top prospects months later, he'd be hailed as a genius, not fired. I'm not sure Aguilar is worth anything. He's cooled off a lot since the start of the year, so there isn't much to go off on him other than a great spring. He's still a guy who was DFA a few months ago. Just because we suckered the Pirates with Jason Rogers doesn't mean a similar deal will be available again.
  17. That's a pretty sophisticated shift. Who expected to see Villar 50 feet out in the outfield right there to snag a line drive that 10 years ago is a hit 100 times out of 100?
  18. Unless they are cruising towards June with an incredible record, no. I'm a bit confused by this. If they were cruising in June with a great record, why would that make them more likely to want to move Braun?
  19. It's not an emotional decision for me. It's strictly business. If his bat can stick 4 more years and he can OPS .900+ and stay relatively healthy, I'd be happy to have him if he can help us win a World Series. If that's unlikely, I'd prefer to move on. I don't really feel any emotion about it.
