    Exactly, WHY? I think you'll see Broxton primarily against lefties. I would be a lot more understanding about this if it were 2 years ago and we were in a pennant race.

    4th straight start for Nieuwenhuis, 2nd day off in the last 3 games for Broxton. Why?

    Villar has 63 runs scored this year, which is best on the team and 17th in the NL despite being on the 4th lowest scoring team in the NL. So I think he's doing just fine with his OBP. And yeah he still runs into too many outs, but Fangraphs still grades him out as a slightly above average baserunner this year.

    It's a real big deal, yet it has no mention on ESPN. Their 'breaking news' story is that the Warriors and Cavs will be playing each other on Christmas Day.

    Non tender? Come on... There would probably be a good handful of teams wanting Gennett. Rickie Weeks(no offense to him. Love him) still has a job and Gennett is better. Gennett has trade value. Weeks has (well, a little) positional flexibility. Gennett has none. It's not that Gennett is a terrible player. But he can't play anywhere besides 2nd, he isn't a great option against LHP, and his mediocre defense doesn't even make him a good option as a defensive replacement. If he played passable defense at SS and 3B, that might make him a lot more attractive. His lack of versatility really limits his value.

    That happened to me with Direct a few weeks ago, for some reason I had the local Fox Sports broadcasts for St. Louis.

    MLB's blackout restrictions are beyond annoying and not fan-friendly at all. Can't watch the game because we want you to watch your local broadcast. Oh, you don't have a local broadcast today? Then I guess you just can't watch at all.

    Good points. I'd also add that the ownership in LA is not afraid to spend, making Braun's deal less of a deterrent than it would be elsewhere. I'm fine with kicking in a small amount, maybe 5M a year on the remainder of his deal, but the return needs to be substantial enough to make it worthwhile. In the end I don't expect Braun to go anywhere, at least not yet, but given that I don't think he'll have any trouble clearing waivers either, it's just as likely to happen in August as it was in July.

    If he clears waivers, there's really no financial deterrent, because we'd only be on the hook for a prorated minimum. I certainly wouldn't put in a waiver claim on him and be on the hook for the remainder of his $9M. I'm torn. My heart says bring him back. I know he was happy here and I have an appreciation for guys like him who actually loved it in Milwaukee and produced while they were here. I can't bring myself to believe that a guy who was a great player a year ago suddenly fell off a cliff at 30 and became a terrible player. He's a total buy low candidate right now. I think it's always possible he could blossom again, as opposed to Nieuwenhuis, who we know is a career 4th OFer, and Flores, who is just, well, nothing. My head says that there's just probably not a role on this rebuilding team right now for a 30 year old slumping outfielder. It doesn't make much sense to take playing time away from Broxton right now. In the end, he's probably a good fit on someone like the Mets who are in contention and in need of outfield help. At the very worst he's still a good bench outfielder and defensive replacement. Since he'll be a free agent in the offseason, I could see us calling him if Braun were traded, but probably not otherwise.

    I agree. I mean, Yuni Betancourt was our starting SS in the NLCS. You may not have a player of the future at every position even in a contending year, you might just have a stopgap. That's not to say you don't look to acquire your 1B of the future if the opportunity presents itself, but at this point in the rebuild our acquisitions should be all about value and none about need.

    I'd gladly take him over Nieuwenhuis or Flores. Just only at the prorated minimum, I wouldn't claim him off waivers. Speaking of Flores, Luis Sardinas got DFAed today too.

    Along with the speculated names that Mass mentioned I would suggest Coulter could get added with a strong next month in Biloxi. I think Wang's promotion to AAA is an indication of our desire to see what he can do at that level before making a decision on him

    I'm sure Fielder still gets the money one way or another being injury related. MLB contracts are almost always paid in full. Very rarely does a player under MLB contract walk away and leave the money on the table. Salomon Torres was the last Brewer I can think of doing that.

    Maybe this belongs in a different thread, but are their any significant prospects of ours who will be eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 draft late this year if not added to the 40 man?

    AJ is a pretty awful catcher throwing runners out so I wasn't too worried about it. He's definitely chasing the SB title, though.

    How do you call a ball that literally pops out of a guys' mitt a double? Pretty bad bullpen management by Counsell tonight. Having Torres throw 40 pitches was just asking for trouble.

    I don't think Atlanta would appreciate you trading Jed Bradley. Especially since he's been pitching very well for them.

    That is not what anybody is saying. What if, with regular playing time, Broxton turns into a really good player? That helps Counsell's career and the Brewers win more. "You can try to win while not particularly caring if you do win" Thats what I responded to. Pure and simple I really think you're overdramatizing this quote a bit. This team is not tanking. No one is being asked to lose or struggle; players, coaches, or managers. With very rare exceptions, fans aren't asking that either. It all really comes down to a broader goal than a 162 game season. It's not about losing, but it's also not about having the best possible record at the end of 162 games, it's about having the best record and team in X number of years when we have a chance to compete again. And rebuilding is about using players that have a chance to help you have that best possible team in X number of years. Who has a chance to be a part of a competitive Brewers team in say, 3 years? Keon Broxton might. Kirk Nieuwenhuis most likely does not. 'Trying to win while nor really caring if you do' is probably underselling the competitive desire of players to win, but I don't think it's really literal. When I watch a Brewers game, I want them to win. I do care. But at the end of the season, I don't really care about whether they win 68 or 72 games, and if they're answering honestly, the organization doesn't either.

    Seriously, how does Scooter not manage to get a tag in somewhere during the course of that play?

    Who is telling Counsell to lose 100 games? And how does playing young players in a lost season equate to tanking? Counsell's job is safe right now, the front office understands the situation. How he transitions when the team transitions to a contender again will determine his job security after that.

    I really like Wheeler's upside, but I think I would have been disappointed if the centerpiece of a Lucroy deal was 2 years away from free agency.
