  1. Why? The trade leaked before it was finalized and then the Mets found something that they weren't comfortable with and backed out. You don't blame the Mets for that and it looks like it was a pretty good decision by the Mets to back out considering what Gomez has done since being traded. It's not like the trade was agreed to, finalized and then they backed out because Flores was crying on the field and they felt bad or something. It's not about them backing out to me, it's about the manufacturing of a non-existent hip issue in order to do so, which could have been potentially damaging to both Gomez' career and the league's perception of his trade value to us. Yeah, it turned out looking like a wise move for the Mets, but that doesn't make it any less unprofessional the way they went about it. I don't believe for a second that the hip was ever a deal breaker for them.
  2. Keep working those counts. DeGrom won't see the 6th if we can keep up the long ABs.
  3. I really gained a strong distaste for the Mets organization after the Carlos Gomez non trade last year, I thought that was very unprofessional of them. Would be nice to take it to them a game or two.
  4. I knew that was his first of the year, didn't know it was his first career. Cool and not a bad guy to get it against.
  5. That was one ugly 3-2 swing. Not going to beat a guy like deGrom stranding leadoff doubles.
  6. Not so much as a whimper from us those last 3 innings.
  7. 5 and 2/3, 108 pitches and 3 earned. A disappointing night for most starters, a solid night for Wily.
  8. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I thought I remember Peralta being at least somewhat competent with the bat when he came into the league. Now he just looks completely hapless every AB.
  9. Am I the only one seeing a much more generous zone for Matz than Peralta tonight?
  10. Glad Braun isn't going on the DL and Santana needs a couple weeks to get right anyway. I've got to think his power dropoff this year has been at least partially injury related.
  11. No, Carter is worse defensively. Why is the defense of Davis continually brought up when guys he is compared to are just as bad or worse. Sorry, I should have more accurately said 'roughly the same defensive effectiveness'. Doesn't change the point that Davis and Carter have remarkable similarities in power, defense, OBP, and age, and Carter was acquired for nothing.
  12. So he's basically Chris Carter with a worse OBP and defense. This angst over Davis /Santana is baffling to me. Santana is 23 and developing. His power and defense haven't been what we hoped, but his plate discipline has. He'll come around. Davis is exactly who we thought he was. While his power is attractive, the lack of any other skills including plate discipline and defense make him as much of a liability ad an asset in an everyday lineup.
  13. that line is a bit of an overstatement, don't you think? Yeah, it probably was, but something about hearing Miller Park roaring with Cub fans made this choke sting a little bit more.
  14. Your Milwaukee Brewers, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory since 1970.
  15. I'm not sure why you keep touting Capuano's bat. He is a career. 124 hitter with a .307 career OPS. He is pretty much the definition of a pitcher at the plate.
  16. Lower back stiffness not rest night I read. So stiff that he couldn't take one AB with the bases loaded in a situation where he won't even have to run the bases?
  17. How Braun doesn't get one AB there on a 'rest night' I'll never understand.
  18. Happy for Davis, but seeing that brutal .245 OBP makes me glad we moved on.
  19. Put aside the disappointment we feel of not seeing history, and we still have a game in which Anderson, who we really need to settle in as a reliable starter at the back end of our rotation, shut down a very potent lineup for 8 and 2/3rds, and we beat the best team in baseball. That's a good day. The no-hitter will come again, someday. I think a cycle is even rarer than a no-no and we've had a handful of scrubs nail that one down in the last 10-15 years.
  20. We're actually not nearly as bad as I thought we'd be. It's just been the starting pitching. Everything else is pretty reasonable as it is. The starting pitching has been so bad, even after recent good performances we are still over .50 worse in ERA than the 2nd worst pitching team in MLB. The starting pitching has been starting to normalize, which is good, but the rotation being so unworldly bad is really the only reason we're 17-22. Give us anything close to average starting pitching so far and we're probably in wild card contention.
  21. We need Ned Yost to prepare some DVDs for MLB on how Nieuwehuis somehow comitted an error on that play by not laying out for it.
