  1. Questionable throw, no doubt. But it is possible to execute that throw without chucking it into the dirt with no prayer of being caught. That was like a Prince Fielder throw to the plate. Terrible. Like I said, he still plays the game like he's a rookie in all facets of the game. A freaking veteran in his 9th year and he still plays it like he's trying to learn how to play at this level.
  2. We're getting chances to walk tonight, we're just not being patient. Giving Carlos Gomez the green light on 3-0 is a pretty piss poor decision.
  3. A 2 run deficit seems a lot more of a challenge than 1 given how weak we're swinging the bats today.
  4. Show some patience at the plate finishing up this game, guys. Volquez is known for control issues and this umpire has a tight zone.
  5. That catch was an easy play. Your decent softball league 2B catches that ball. It's still one that any other player in the infield gets his glove under and you think "He got to it." Weeks is the one player that you're watching make the play and thinking "He won't catch it."
  6. I just can't even stand to look at Rickie anymore. It's mind-boggling to see a 9 year veteran that still plays the game like he's a rookie.
  7. Weeks should have 2 errors this inning. The catch wasn't an easy play, but it should have been made. He's the one guy on the team that you just know will drop it, though.
  8. Can't catch a ball, then makes a horrible throw. Thanks for giving 'em a free run, Rick.
  9. Totally didn't realize til now that Bill Hall went back this far.
  10. We don't know that he's special. He could be, and I hope he is. But Segura is not the first and won't be the last young player to leave that impression over a small sample. Bill Hall looked more than "special" after 2006 and we locked him up. He looked like a superstar already. In the end, it was one of the worst contracts in franchise history. If you do this after 3 weeks with every young player, you're going to lock up every Tony Gwynn Jr, John Axford, and Manny Parra that you have on your roster. Again I love Segura but people are getting caught up in the emotion of his performance so far. Unless he continues to hit .375 the whole season, which he won't, he's not going to skyrocket in price from where he's already at from now until the end of the season. Braun only got 8 years $45M after a full season of one of the best rookie years ever, and he already projected much more as a superstar than Segura does. We don't know nearly enough about Segura to decide what he is worth yet. There were people who made reasonable arguments just months ago that they felt Alex Gonzalez should be the starter at SS this year with Segura on the pine or in AAA. Would it be that crazy to see the guy play for at least half a season before we throw Ryan Braun first contract money at him? And if Segura is THIS good, why is he even willing to sell off his arby years for $15-$20M total and then give club options for his next 3 years? Just because it's early doesn't mean we can just throw the most team-flexible deal possible on the table and get him to sign it. There has been no talk whatsoever of a Segura extension from the organization, just fan chatter and speculation that has gained steam from him playing very well. It's APRIL of his first season with us!
  11. I think you mean "220" AB's. I've seen enough. We're not talking about paying him big money for the .650 OPS last year. We're paying him for the 69 ABs this year. To which the answer is why? What possible advantage do we gain over doing this now rather than getting a year to evaluate him first, other than saving a few million long-term?
  12. I also recall someone here being very angry over this trade and saying we should have told the Angels that "we need Trout back in return for Greinke or they can pound sand".
  13. Even Braun had basically a full season of time before he was offered an extension. This is exciting what Segura is doing, but let's spend more than 69 AB's evaluating him. It's not like he's going to be a free agent anytime soon.
  14. Are we short on bags of balls right now?
  15. Okay, this is hard for me to say, because I'm a huge Segura fan. I think most of us, myself included, need to temper our expectations on him a bit. We are still talking about 3 weeks and 69 AB's. Please don't take that to mean that I don't think Segura is, or will be, a great player. I think we are seeing a different Segura. I think he has All-Star upside. I just think that some people think we may have the next superstar on our hands, the next Tulo at SS, etc. etc. Fact is Segura is outperforming expectations at the moment. Now we may need to readjust expectations for him, but he's still outperforming them. If he turns out to be an .800 OPS shortstop with 30 steals and solid defense, I think we would all agree that that far exceeds our hopes of his first season for him when we traded for him. Even that kind of line would put him among the top 3-5 SS's in baseball. I'd give him at least a full season at the MLB level before thinking about an extension when we really don't even need to worry about it for 6 years. In a case like his where there are multiple seasons left of cheap club control, I'd rather get a larger sample of what we're going to be paying for before paying for it.
  16. Kotsay chased Ball 4, thereby finally doing something to help us win a game, 2 years later.
  17. That was a dumb way to run into the 3rd out. Segura was already in scoring position. Lucroy isn't stealing a base.
  18. Trust me, he's been impressive in the 14 or 15 that you haven't been able to catch on TV, too.
  19. RRR has been tossed from the game. I'd love to blame him, believe me.
