  1. Wilson is awful, I can't imagine giving up anything whatsoever for a guy who isn't even an upgrade from any of our current SS.
  2. I'm so mad that no one questioned RR about not walking Castro in the 10th. That was such an obvious call. 1 out, runner on 3rd, and that's the only run that matters. You walk Castro, you accomplish two things with no downside -- you take the bat out of their best hitters hand and you set up an inning ending double play. You can't even say that you have no room for error on a walk, because you're not loading the bases. And some of Hunt's opinions are really tough to stomach, I'm not sure where his brain is sometimes. I blasted him in 2009 for his piece of how we absolutely needed to sell the farm for Halladay with our .500 team.
  3. I still think its a good pen. Ax has been lights out since April, Hawkins has been amazing, Braddock and Mitre are big assets, and Loe is a nice ROOGY. Its just that the person in charge of them has no clue how to best utilize them.
  4. Unfortunately after not seeing a move today I'm afraid we will be suffering through more Nieves" starts. If they were going to make a move I don't see why they would wait. Kottaras is potentially useful to have every day as a pinch-hitter, Nieves is not, so they have nothing to gain by waiting until just before Wolf's next start.
  5. According to Fangraphs, if Nieves was paid what he was worth for his entire career, not only would he have never earned a salary but he would actually owe over 5 million dollars. That's how bad he is and always has been. It takes guys like Roenicke who buy into the idea that since he is terrible offensively, he must be a defensive catcher and great game caller, to accomplish the miracle of him lasting this long in the league.
  6. I will concede that Nieves still being on the roster is ultimately Melvin's responsibility, but no way for a second do I believe that Roenicke has "no control" over it.
  7. Braddock can only face a cluster of lefties, Loe can only pitch the 8th, Axford only the 9th, and everyone else is just there to fill in the blanks. Way to limit your pen as much as you possibly can, Ronny.
  8. For crying out loud RR and DM, cut ties with this failed move already. Its mid-June. I don't care if you screw up once in awhile, every manager and GM will. What I can't stand is your stubborn refusal to fix it.
  9. Another strike to me against RR is that he does not seem to ever have the ability to admit he was wrong. I cannot stand it when managers do not hold themselves accountable. A manager who never thinks he was wrong is not learning from his mistakes.
  10. I don't understand what you are saying. So because Melvin isn't micro-managing RR's bench and overriding him, its not RR's fault that Nieves is still here? Is it Mark A's fault then, since he could override them both? Melvin is the GM of the Brewers. If Melvin wanted Nieves gone he would be, its not RR's decision at all. Melvin is in charge of the roster, not RR. This is just not true. Managers very commonly have control over the personnel on their bench. Yes, on paper, Melvin managers the roster, but there is no way that Nieves is on this roster if Roenicke doesn't want him. I'd go as far as to say that it wouldn't surprise me if Roenicke hasn't had to plead on Nieves' behalf by now to keep him around.
  11. Yes it is his fault. He wants a "defense first catcher" The ball was crushed. Only the wind blowing in kept that in the park. He should not face left handers Still not his fault. I don't understand what you are saying. So because Melvin isn't micro-managing RR's bench and overriding him, its not RR's fault that Nieves is still here? Is it Mark A's fault then, since he could override them both?
  12. Its not his fault Nieves is on the roster. Loe pitched well, not his fault Braun cant catch a fly ball. You are kidding yourself if you don't think Nieves is still on the roster because of Roenicke.
  13. Kotsay starting - 0 for 4, 3 K's. Nieves still on the team - 0 for 2, GIDP, the usual. Squeeze with the pitcher on a 3-1 count - Fail Overworked Loe again in the 8th - Fail There was no reason for us to lose this game. It took a valiant effort including a horrid lineup, mismanaging and overthinking to get it done. I am so sick of Roenicke.
  14. Exactly, if you think Roenicke is a good manager, quantify it with an example. Just because we're in 1st place doesn't make Wil Nieves a good catcher.
  15. I would say that the standings are a good indication of very good players on this team, not necessarily that Roenicke is a good baseball manager.
  16. I don't think its an overreaction. At the very least I would label RR as an extreme overthinker.I
  17. 3-1 squeeze plays with the pitcher up. Nieves still on the roster. Kotsay continuing to bat 2nd and play CF. Ridiculously small sample sizes. Many outs on the bases. Excessive trust in Kam Loe. A terrible bench. My honest current opinion of RR - he's one of the worst managers in baseball, whose only asset is maintaining a positive clubhouse atmosphere, which is easy to do when you're winning. Worst of all, he was given a loaded team in his first season as a manager and is therefore going to receive loads of undue credit both locally and on a national level.
  18. God I hate you Roenicke. You are far and away the dumbest manager in baseball.
  19. I wonder if Small Sample Skipper will remove Kotsay from the lineup now that he's gone from a career .300 hitter vs. Dempster to a career .250 hitter in the matter of an hour.
  20. Does anyone find it hilarious that Nieves' continued existence on the roster depends not on his performance, but on the performance of Randy Wolf? I probably would if I wasn't so furious about him still being on it.
  21. No, Kotsay is in because he hit a homerun against Dempster back in 2002 when he was 26, which is somehow relevant to today. I really don't know what to say about Roenicke anymore other than that I'm glad he doesn't coach the Packers. Rodgers would end up riding the bench in games where he had a career record of 0-1 and 3 INT's vs his opponent.
  22. It almost feels like RR thinks that he can't mess with McGehee in the 5-hole because we're winning. I'd hate to see the consequences if we scored 12 today with Kotsay batting 2nd.
  23. Please upgrade this, Doug. Betancourt is not cutting it and a Betancourt/Counsell platoon is not a good option at all long-term.
  24. I guess I don't really understand that. Sure, we could use George in September, but we could also use him right now every 5th day. We are definitely in win now mode, right? Granted, he will lose AB's, but with how RR has been willing to hit his 2nd catcher, he'd be a very typical pinch-hitting option, especially late in games when the pop on his bat would be nice to have.
  25. Yeah, the mindset that we seem to be taking is that we're winning, so why tinker with the roster. Which I don't agree with at all. Even the best teams are always looking for ways to improve to stay ahead of the other clubs that are also looking to improve. This apparent paranoia that Wil Nieves is somehow essential for the balance of this roster is just weird.
