  1. I don't think that's going to work tonight, Johnny is going to have to get another AB and hit the go ahead homerun to gain any forgiveness at all.
  2. Crap, crap, CRAP! Just not quite enough.
  3. Hart, with nobody on and 2 outs, is there any reason you were playing on the freaking warning track? I don't think you're allowed to jump over the fence to field a ball.
  4. You have got to be freaking kidding me Johnny.
  5. I couldn't care less right now whether Weather's runs are earned or unearned. If they're on the board for us, that's good enough for me.
  6. Regardless of whether we score this inning, I think we HAVE to go with Cordero next inning against the meat of the Reds order. Screw the save situation, go with your best reliever to keep it tied against the dangerous part of the order. You go with Spurling or Balfour, and there won't be a save to play for later. Of course, if we can't do something here, 1st and 2nd nobody out, we just probably aren't going to win this one anyway.
  7. Huge break. We have to take advantage. MAKE THEM PAY!
  8. Unbelievable job by the pitching staff tonight. But we have to score here. The Reds offense is too good. We're not going to be able to put up 0's much longer. One mistake, at Great American Ballpark, and anyone can take one out.
  9. So, Turnbow. I seem to recall Dunn hitting a walkoff off him last year.
  10. Thanks for that entirely usless piece of clutch hitting, Johnny.
  11. We had better do better than 3-5. We can't continue to play this badly on the road, especially against teams like the Reds and Cardinals. I expect 4-4. I don't think that's a lot to ask against 2 mediocre NL Central teams. 5-3 or better would be great.
  12. I like Weeks so much and think he could be a great leadoff hitter. Look at his average, .222. Now look at his OBP, .337. A full .115 higher. For a 24 year old, that's a great show of patience and one area of his game that has come around VERY well since he came up. Now think if he hit .290, which a healthy Weeks is more than capable of. We might see an OBP around .400 and 40 steals. That's a hell of a leadoff guy especially when he'll give you extra base power. Oh, and he finally learned how to play defense. As much as people have been frustrated with Weeks, no one can question that his defense and plate patience have considerably improved this year. That's a significant step.
  13. Might be too late on this thread to get this one answered, but what did the 63 and 62 mean? Is 62 our magic number?
  14. You're not wrong. It was 2004. Unless you count the 2 game "sweep" to open the season at PNC on April 4th and 6th, 2005. Not sure if winning both games of a 2 game series is considered a sweep or not.
  15. Alright, well regardless of whether Suppan is or isn't underperforming, I can't see how the rotation has been remotely close to as expected. Our #2 - #4 pitchers are near 5.00 in ERA. Someone pointed out that ERA isn't a completely accurate gauge, which is true. Still, we were projected by many to have the best rotation in the central this year. If 4 out of our 5 starters at 4.47 or worse is what we were looking for, I'd have to say our rotation was extremely overrated. I still think Suppan will recover for a good second half like he did in '05 and '06. No, I don't expect 2.39 out of him in the 2nd half, but I think he'll be okay. Capuano has been known to fade down the stretch, so I am a bit more concerned about him, though he looked very solid in his last start, and will need to be every bit as good against Harang.
  16. Anyone know what ever became of this kid? Had star potential, probably the biggest pitching prospect since Sheets when he started his MLB career in 2001 and 2002. Was hampered by injuries, missed the entire 2003 season, and in 2004, the Brewers finally lost patience with him and let him go. At the time, they told him that they thought he could still make a recovery and pitch again, but they couldn't wait it out any more. Did this guy ever make it back with anybody, or did he just sort of fade away?
  17. Let's take a look at Braun's numbers for 2007. .338 15 HR 42 RBI 8 SB 1.043 OPS Okay, so Braun's played in 50 games. We're 98 games into the season. So I'll assume that if Braun was up the entire season, he would have played in 95 games. Project that out up to the this point and you get: .338 29 HR 80 RBI 15 SB 1.043 OPS Now, let's project those numbers for an entire full season of regular play. We'll assume he plays in 156 games this season, 1 day off a month. .338 47 HR 131 RBI 25 SB 1.043 Those are MVP numbers. No question about it. Look, I'm not saying that Braun won't hit a slump at some point. But 50 games and 200+ AB's is a pretty good sample size to say -- "Yeah, he's for real!" That's how good he has been this year. And if his projections had been consistent throughout the year, Pence wouldn't even be in the ROY discussion. We'll never know, but I don't know if I've ever seen a rookie start this well since I've been watching baseball. From ANY team. Has a rookie ever won MVP?
  18. No, it wasn't just last year, in 2005 he had a 2.78 ERA in the 2nd half. He then followed this up with a 2.39 ERA in the 2nd half of last year. So the last two years, he has absolutely been a 2nd half pitcher.
  19. I don't expect a 3.50 ERA out of Suppan, but I do expect something around 4.15 out of him by the end of the season, especially considering he's a second half pitcher. I knew the risks we were taking, too. Groundball pitcher that relies on a solid defense. I don't think our defense has been bad. Weeks has actually been pretty great for the most part. Hardy has been pretty solid. Same with Counsell and Graffy. Prince has had good and bad moments, and Braun, though he's had some struggles, has been better than advertised.
  20. He should. Those numbers are a lot due to the fact that his career never really took off until he was 27 or so. He hasn't posted an ERA over 4.19 since 2002.
  21. Well, let's hope Parra can squash this rally. The Giants still need 8 runs to win this game. Let's put it this way, if you give up 8 runs to the Giants lineup 3 games in a row, you deserve to get swept.
  22. Well, I do feel like the rotation has been underperforming, and again, I'm not saying this is Maddux' fault. I think at this point in the season, I was expecting Capuano, Suppan, and Bush to all have ERA's about a full point lower than what they are. I would say Sheets has been about as expected, as has Vargas. He's been a very servicable #5. Suppan has an ERA around 5.00 and a WHIP over 1.50. If this is like normal for him, then it was a terrible signing. Cappy has really struggled too, but he was struggling before the injury. Bush has looked a lot better the last month or two. Still also up around 5.00 ERA, in a year that I think many of us expected to see him break out. I don't think there's any question that the #2 - #4 in our rotation have underperformed this season.
  23. HUGE insurance runs that inning.
  24. I'm impressed when Estrada "almost" throws out a runner now. Pretty sad.
  25. I don't like this. We came out on fire in the 1st. The Giants have smallballed their way to two 2 out runs, at least 1 of which should not have even happened. Now it's back to a 2 run game. Bats needs to get going again.
