  1. Surprisingly, there's numerous options for what to do for a starter with Sheets apparently out for an extended period of time. Here's mine: A) Look for a good trading partner before the deadline, and get an established starter. Garland? Bottom Line: The safest option to keep things rolling towards the playoffs, and you can never have too much starting pitching. But any trade that will bring in a quality starter may cost us quite a bit of talent. B) Start Gallardo. Limiting his innings be damned. Bottom Line: Gallardo is ready. But does the risk outweigh the reward here? C) Start Parra. Keep Gallardo in the pen for now, to limit his innings. Bottom Line: Parra has nothing left to prove in the minors. But he is completely untested at the MLB level. D) Start Villanueva until at least Sheets' return. Bottom Line: Villy is starting to put together a very respectable track record. Quality work in the pen this year, solid starts last year and one this year. But taking him out of the pen could end up backfiring and hurting the pen. E) Spot-start, and give Gallardo, Parra, and Villanueva all a couple of starts. Bottom Line: Wouldn't put a great deal of pressure on anyone this way, and would allow us to get some looks at all 3 starting. But the constant moving from a starting role to a long relief role might be a bad idea. Personally, I'd try Parra first. If he busts in his first 2 starts, or significantly busts in his first one, go with Villanueva. I'd keep Gallardo in the pen as planned unless absolutely necessary. Have to keep the long term in mind. Edited by: adambr2

  3. Now THAT'S the Cordero that we saw in the first 2 months. Great win. Let's get #2 tommorow!
  4. Okay, CoCo, we know you're the best in the business at putting a runner at 3rd with 1 out and stranding him. We GET it, and we appreciate that. No need to prove it to us again tonight. 1-2-3 would be just fine.
  5. Man, Jenkins looks just absolutely lost against lefty pitching.
  6. Great inning by Turnbow after giving up the leadoff walk. He's gradually starting to become one of the premiere setup men in the game again.
  7. Yeah, we've had problems in certain areas this year, but offense isn't normally one of them. At times, an inconsistent offense, yes.
  8. Beautiful 2 strike pitch by Turnbow. Come on, Derrick...
  9. Oh man. Leadoff walk. After 'Bow had him 0 and 2. I don't like the looks of this at all.
  10. Oh man. Leadoff walk. After 'Bow had him 0 and 2. I don't like the looks of this at all.
  11. Good decision by Ned to get Bush out of there now. Don't want to see anything resembling a big inning here. Shouse isn't my first choice here, though. With all righties coming up?
  12. If MLB decides to institute a "Senior Series" as a addition to the "World Series", like golf's Senior Open, I would have to think the Giants are the clear-cut favorite.
  13. Mench in the first half of 2007: vs. LHP - .327 AVG, 5 HR, 15 RBI, .897 OPS Seriously, isn't this pretty much exactly what we wanted to see out of our lefty pitcher hitting platoon partner in LF? I don't see where he is such a liability. We brought him back to start every few days and hit lefties well. Seems to me that he is doing that.
  14. Thanks much for all the info, guys. Maybe I'll try it out sometime. I'm gathering that I don't need a club seat to access the club, but rather just a club pass -- but then I only have access to the bar and restaurant up there, which might not be entirely practical for watching the game.
  15. This article from JSOnline looks like speculation for the most part, but looks like they are assuming Gallardo will be the choice. www.jsonline.com/story/in...?id=633015
  16. Okay, something I've been a little confused about, and I would be very grateful for a little more information on, are the .300 club passes. Sometimes I'll go on E-Bay and see .300 club passes for sale for games, usually for very cheap. It will specify that it is not a ticket, but recommends buying cheap seats and sitting in the .300 club. Is the .300 club an entirely large area with seating, or is it a group of seats, or what? Is it usually pretty crowded, or is it a real good place to watch the game? Thanks for any answers that anyone can provide! I was thinking of picking up some passes for some game, buying some Bernie's terrace seats, and maybe watching from the .300 club, but I just wanted to see how good of an option this is.
  17. Now THAT'S the CoCo we know and love! The Astros still suck, and just failed with the bases loaded, but ah, it's a good day anyway, good series victory despite all the nervous moments.
  18. That young, neatly groomed umpire at first base needs to go back to wherever he came from.
  19. Holy crap CoCo. What are you doing out there??
  20. Even those in the game had at least 2 days off after the game. I know Counsell has been better lately, but he's still Counsell, and sitting Hardy isn't the solution to him breaking out of his slump. Just don't like this lineup, regardless of how guys have been lately, we know there isn't much strength in this lineup. Hope I am wrong. Maybe we get a huge day from Graffy or something, I don't know. But I still cringe to see Graffy and Counsell in the lineup on the same day.
  21. Leadoff walk. They always come back to kill. Suppan doesn't look very sharp today at all. Lot of hard hit balls.
  22. This lineup is awful. How much rest do guys really need 2 days after the all-star break??
  23. We need a retractable roof that is fast to open and close. We can leave it open tonight when the Rockies are batting, and then close it when we're up.
  24. Anyone still want to pick up Junkins' $9.5M option for next season?
  25. Ender, every pitcher has some good days from time to time. But you can put lipstick on a pig, and it's still a pig, and if we do get no-hit by Lopez, it would be humilating. Especially after getting no-hit by Verlander a month ago, but at least Verlander is a stud.
