  1. And once again, Doubles streak extended, By Brewers pitcher.
  2. But Turnbow and Cordero are both very well rested right now. It's not like both can't work tommorow if one pitches today. Two days in a row is not a big deal, even three isn't unheard of. The only guy in the pen who will probably be unavailable tommorow, barring an emergency, is Villanueva.
  3. Yeah, the BP is fine after the last 2 nights. Turnbow and Cordero could actually USE some work right now, haven't seen any in a few days. If we let Villy work 6, that's pretty much a full start and we don't have him available for at least several days. So Villy did his job, and everything worked out just fine. Billy wasn't ready to see that doubles streak come to an end! Scuffling or not, he's NOT having a bad day...1 for 3 with a walk.
  4. I hate, absolutely hate giving up RBI's to the opposing pitcher.
  5. Is it just me, or does Prince really struggle with runners in scoring position?
  6. I'll answer that in a sentence: Jenkins and Mench are on fire right now. Gotta stick with the hot bats. When they go cold, Hart will still be there. He's still going to get his AB's this season, just probably not as many as originally thought.
  7. Oh man...A double-play on a 3-1 pitch...from Lee nonetheless...
  8. Outside, by a good few inches. Cordero is just not throwing strikes right now.
  9. Come on Coco. Don't screw around.
  10. Mench was almost running side-by-side with the pitcher. What would the call have been if Mench were to casually reach over and slap the ball out of his glove? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  11. Well, not Villanueva's best inning, but another scoreless one.
  12. That was actually a very important walk by Counsell even though he probably won't score anyway...but now we don't have to either leadoff with Villy next inning, or only get 1 inning out of him.
  13. What was Everett thinking on that 3-0 pitch, starting to trot over to 1st? That was clearly a strike. Un. Real. Wow. That was probably the ugliest shutout 5 innings I have ever seen by a Brewers starter. But I'll take it.
  14. Seriously, Vargas. He can't even field today. You have to hit a small strikezone 60 1/2 feet away and you somehow don't have the accuracy to get a throw within range to be caught at 2nd base?
  15. This has got to be the last inning for Vargas. He can't throw a strike to safe his life today.
  16. Alright, they're loaded with 1 out, let's not pull an Astros.
  17. I gotta hand it to Gwynn, that was a beautiful bunt.
  18. Another walk for Vargas. Maybe I was wrong about him having it today, that's his 3rd walk issued, and he's going to have to work out of another jam. I hope Villy is ready to go today.
  19. Couple reasons. First off, it's beneficial to every starter in the rotation to get that extra day off. Over the course of the whole season, that may make the difference for a guy like Capuano who historically seems to wear down around September. Secondly, I think we may be able to expect more out of Vargas. Maybe a 4.25 - 4.50 ERA type pitcher, which is very good for a #5 starter. Anyway, I think Vargas is doing well enough not to be skipped right now, so I don't have a problem with them riding the hot hand. If he starts struggling, they've got options -- they can skip some of his starts, or promote Villanueva to the starting rotation. That's the luxury of having a guy in the bullpen (Villy) who can be an effective starter, too. We won't have to go back through last years Hendrickson/Eveland saga. In any event, Vargas won't get a tremendously long leash, obviously if he starts getting roughed up they may make some changes, but so far, it's going alright. Seems to have it today, at least so far in the 4th.
  20. Sort of. I understand he fits the mold of a true leadoff hitter. But he needs to learn how to draw a walk and get that OBP at least in the .370 range befoe he can really be an effective leadoff man. If that happens, it is possible that within 1-2 years when Jenkins and Mench are very possibly gone, it's potentially possible that we could see Hall move to left and Gwynn put in center everyday, if he continues to develop and improve. But as of right now, he's a situational player, that's it. A good one, yes, but he's not a starter at this point.
  21. I don't think it will happen anytime soon. Vargas has been pretty good for the most part, and with Sheets and Bush both struggling, I don't think there is a need to skip anybody at this point.
  22. Nothing agonizes me more than giving up runs because of an inability to throw strikes, especially when that loads the bases for Lee. C'mon Vargas, get out of this.
