Seems like a lot of people say, "Would love Crawford here, but we can't give up Gallardo no matter what." Well, in all fairness, what would you expect? Of course it would require Gallardo or someone like that. Crawford is probably the premiere outfielder for potential in baseball. They'd never let him go for scraps, even a package deal with Gallardo might not be enough. That being said, I am a firm believer that no one is untradeable given the right offer. Let's imagine this scenario: We're leading our division near the trade deadline, but it's close. We're a pretty well rounded team, but the outfield situation is a little weak. Our rotation is living up to all expectations. Villanueva has earned the 5th spot and has proved last year wasn't a fluke with 9 wins and a sub 4.00 ERA. The rest of the rotation is doing exactly what is expected, giving us the best all-around rotation in the league. If we had that chance to make that trade there, could we really pass it up, even at the expense of losing Gallardo? We lose what could have been our ace of the future. We gain a star outfielder and instantly become a favorite for a trip to the World Series in 2007. What's the risk vs. reward situation there? I guess only Melvin could answer that.
