    Because he’s 22 years old. He’s still getting used to the range he has to cover, the speed of the MLB game compared to the minors, the routes he has to take, the footage of the warning tracks, among many other things. He is still adjusting to the MLB game at an age when most of his counterparts are playing in AA. Chourio graded out +6 DRS in 2024, +1 in 2025 and +1 so far in 2026, and +5, +3, and +1 respectively in OAA. Even with his limitations that he needs to work on, he has still graded out as an above average outfielder every year in his career. This is his floor. And it’s not like his floor is bad.

    Holy smokes is Sanchez slow. Perkins probably has a chance at a triple without Sanchez in front of him.

    Yes. Which 100% appears to be a correctable, coachable mistake that he’s making. Not an athletic limitation that dooms him to jumping into the wall for the rest of his career.

    There’s a difference between acknowledging that a defensive play was poor and declaring the offending player a DH only player because of it.

    I didn’t plan on having to take the position today that the Brewers should not move their star 22 year old player to DH at 22 years old.

    Oh come on. He just turned 22 years old, his defensive game is at least average in every other regard, and he’s plenty athletic enough to develop and improve his shortcomings. He needs to work on this one particular part of his defensive game, that’s all it is.

    Hoskins went from an $18M salary last year to $1.5M this year. Percentage wise, that is a painful paycut.

    Come on, Perk. You come in to PR and you need to know the number of outs. You can’t afford that.

    Not seeing him for at least 15 days doesn’t seem like the absolute worst thing in the world.

    It’s not that he can’t pitch when he’s right. It’s that he’s the absolute worst pitcher at handling even the slightest bit of adversity that I’ve ever seen.

    Just put this man in long relief already. Every single time you ask him to go more than a few innings, disaster ensues.

    If we were talking about Jackson Chourio or Brice Turang, I’d agree with this 100%. People talk about Sal like he was this hugely important cog to us before this season. Sal had a really nice 2025. Other than that, it’s been mostly meh. He has one season over a 93 wRC+. That's the same as Joey Ortiz. He’s average defensively. Nothing you covet for late defensive replacements. He hasn’t had a career that makes him immune to an option.

    Okay. So why is this a better solution to have a platoon outfielder that isn’t particularly solid at any one thing that makes him a good bench player, rather than just giving Vaughn his extra starts against RHP and letting him play 10 games out of 10 in Nashville instead of 5 so he can work through the reasons that he sucks this year?

    You don’t have to give up on him. You also don’t need to let him hurt you in the lineup every day. He has options. Why not let him work through his issues every day in Nashville?
