  1. And a secondary bypass outside of 894 that would have gone through the Brookfield business district, most likely used only by Illinoisans getting around Milwaukee.

True, she earned individual medals in five different Games. I think the more impressive thing is she did it across 100 to 400, which few can do. But her detractors will say six of her gold medals came on relays and only five individuals (1 G, 3 S, 1 B)

Molly...WOW! My buddy texted me that the start time was moved up one hour. So I shut down my computer and high-tailed it after work. The reason I wanted to get home before the start was because I figured Molly would get a brief shout out by the commentators at the start line, maybe being the front for the first 5K and then fade back into the pack, never to be seen or heard about again. However, I got home just after the 5K split to my surprise Molly was in the lead pack. The thing about viewing live as opposed to the delay coverage on NBC was I was able to watch the race develop, the surrealness of seeing Molly in the lead group of 40 runners dwindling to 15 then to 8 then to 4. Side-by-side with the world's elites like Kosgei, who two years ago at Chicago bettered Paula Radcliffe's nearly unbreakable WR. At mile 22 where she starting dropping back in fourth, I said to my wife "Molly's smart, she just needs to maintain contact and let the three in front run each other into the ground and one will bonk". Sure enough, a couple of minutes later the Israeli runner abandons and Seidel was on her way. She was such an unknown on the world scene. I wonder where she on the learning curve, how much better can she get? If the games were last year, she wouldn't have done this. One athlete who benefitted from the C-19 delay. I still kick myself for not taking the time to watch her compete in high school. Strangely enough, this past week I made a business visit to a supplier and spent time with her dad, but didn't know at the time it was her dad until I saw him interviewed Friday night. I think Allison Felix is a bit overhyped by NBC, not at the same level as Biles or Ladecky. But I give her credit for gutting it out and taking the bronze in the 400. At the US Trials, she went from 5th to 2nd in the final 100 to secure her spot in the event. Ex-Badger Mo Ahmed (CAN) medaled in the 5000. Good to see men's basketball take gold. Just when it looked like it was opening up, France keeps it competitive. FRA defeats NED in team handball. France with a Jrue Holiday-like defensive stop with 15 seconds left to secure the gold. The sport is big in Europe. Just saw Jessica Springsteen ride her horse. Wins a silver in Team Jumping. Per tradition, men's marathon is the last event. Rooting for Kipchoge, who two years ago ran the first sub-2 (although not record eligible). Galen Rupp is not universally well liked in the American running community.

That's what happens when you don't practice with the same four guys. The USA was never in this one. That Brit commentator on USA Network observed that the USA is spanned across four times zones while European countries are more compact, making easier for them to assemble and train together. Also, keep in mind a relay is made up of a "taxi squad" of eight members. I believe it was London the relay showed up with bibs hand written with a Sharpie. Disorganization goes back several Olympiads. As speculated above, nada a mention on Mondo or Deanna. Add one more to the list of persona non grata by NBC, no mention of Caster Semenya during the 800. Athing ran a great race, but you gotta think Caster would have taken gold. If you don't know who she is, look it up. 1500 is a crazy event. Defending champ Centrowicz is out despite running faster than Hocker. Ex-Badger Oli Hoare (AUS) made it to Friday's final. Alison Felix competes Friday as well. What went down at the Trial nine years ago still sticks in my craw. Finally, Nashotah's Molly Seidel finally gets to compete in the marathon. Televised live at 5 pm Friday on USA. The USATF no longer contests the marathon the same week as the track events, holding it usually three months earlier. So Molly and the other two earned their spots in Atlanta on Leap Day 2020 before C-19 delayed the Olympics. It's the final weekend, so the teams sports will be finishing up.

Did anyone notice how NBC had no mention of Richardson's pot smoking during the women's 100 final or Christian Coleman's drug suspension during the men's 100 final. Both would have been medal contenders. To the uninitiated, Karsten Warholm is a rock star in the sport. That race tonight lived up to it's billing. Will be remembered for a long time. Really wished NBC would give less time to the sprints preliminaries in order to get more in depth in the field event finals. They did so well in the last two Olympics and two WC's with pretty much the same commentators. Tuesday night will have interesting races. Several high profile athletes in the W 200 final. W 800 - Athing Mu is favored for gold. Just finished her freshman year at Texas A&M and just turned pro, so that means Suzy Favor's NCAA record is safe for another generation. W 400H - Mohammad broke the WR at the 2019 WC with McLaughlin a half-step behind. At the OT, McLaughlin breaks that record with Mohammad one step behind. Mondo Duplantis in the PV is another rock star. A Swede who grew up in Louisiana and went to LSU for a year. Recently broke the outdoor WR. Deanna Price is the favorite in the W HT. We'll see how much attention NBC gives these two.

Good to see Keni Harrison medal Sunday. In 2016, the Americans were so loaded in this event that she missed out making the team, only two weeks later breaking the world record. I didn't know two people could be given the option of sharing a gold. Qatar's Barshim is likely my most awe inspiring athlete, yet NBC only saw fit to show one jump and instead showed heats of the sprints. If you have some free time, I invite you to search videos of him. I saw one where the bar is set something like seven foot-plus and he hurdles it straight up. In the 2019 WC, he won gold in his home stadium and the place went nuts.

Still struggling with the schedule. Even consulted the link listed above. Set my DVR. Well, I've got seven days to get it right. I've missed three track events I was interested in. It appears ex-Badger Kelsey Card missed qualifying for the DT final by one spot. It's tough to determine exactly which events are broadcast in which slots. Some live, some delayed. Mixed gender relay 4x400 made it debut in the Olympics, although contested in the last two WC's and World Relays. There was a bit of curious interest in the track community. Surprised NBC didn't hype it more. Again, wasn't clear which time slot it would be shown.

Do I dare say that in my view it wasn't as much as Lee winning it but more Andrade losing it? It wasn't as if it was a "Giannis slam dunk" to seal as it Suni walked off the mat.

I know what you mean. Right now, I'd say the Wisconsin State Journal. Maybe USA Today? They're coverage is usually pretty good. I haven't tried the NBC website
  10. If all this happens, then my interest in college athletics across the board will be pretty much done. It's been on the decline the last few years, especially after Rutgers and Maryland joined the B1G. Thursday after work I'll be hanging out at an alumni wing-ding in the Deer District. If it morphs into a Worship at the Temple of Barry Alvarez, I'm outta there. Go for a run or bike ride instead.

3x3 Basketball – W. My first time viewing. I like the pace of the game. Saw the USA defeat Mongolia (huh?) Wanted to see the ex-Badger play for Italy, but missed it. Cycling – M Road Race. The contenders from the TdF earlier this month also were up in front of this event. Since it was outside of Tokyo and outdoors, spectators were in attendance. Triathlon – W. NBC only showing the first five cross the finish line was very disappointing. Cycling – W Road Race. Wanted to see this but missed it. I was watching live five years ago as van Vleuten had that horrific crash. Wanted to see if she could redeem herself. I see online where she thought she won only to realize the actual winner was a couple of minutes ahead of her. Cycling – W Time Trial. American Chloe Dygert also suffered a nasty crash last year (view at your own risk) and hope she can rebound. Swimming – Two Badgers competing this week that I will look out for. Gymnastic – W. We all now know about Simon. Better to pull out than to forge ahead and end up in a wheelchair for life.
  12. After the series, I thought a cool idea for a vanity plate would be something like "BUX N 6". Sure enough, Saturday afternoon I see a dude with a green Bucks plate "BUXIN6". How does one receive a vanity plate in four days?
  13. I'm nothing more than a casual Bucks fan, but sat down last night to watch start to finish to experience possible Milwaukee sports history. I was up to 1 am, due to being 55 years old and may never witness a major sports championship again in this town. I'm going to be the contrarian and say that neither *team* played all that great. The Bucks should have been up 20 after he first. Too many turnovers and missed shots. Either Middleton or Holiday have a decent game, this one is a laugher. I didn't DVR it. If I did, probably wouldn't save it. I'm happy that the people of Milwaukee was able to experience something like this. This town needed it. Too many people like to look down on it. The whole world was watching and the city shined. Giannis put on a performance that Wisconsinites will still be talking about in 2071.
  14. The T takes you straight to Fenway. To save on a hotel, maybe stay out by Woburn(?)
  15. Anyone care to explain to this 55-yo what makes DJ Shawna such a hot item? I'm see someone standing and playing records. I remember her (limited) playing days with the Badgers.
  16. Hockey is my brother's sport. A Habs fan in Jacksonville. On todays family Zoom call, he mentioned looking into flying into Montreal, but tickets are starting at USD 3,8000. I had to remind him the border is still sealed and if he even got in, would have to self-isolate for fourteen days. Explain that to his boss. Um, duh!
  17. After 15 months, finally landed something (albeit a temp to possible perm). Recruiter calls Wednesday...20 minute phone interview Friday...two hours later offer accepted. Plus, will pay better than any previous job. Only if job hunting was that easy. One Call, That's All.
  18. I had a resume and cover letter professionally done in 1999 and still use it. I feel it was a good investment.
  19. The chart they showed of Kuhl and other pitchers all-time that have dominated the Brewers included Jerry Reuss. I remember the Brewers trading for Reuss when he was 40 years old seemingly because of how good he’d been against them. So maybe in dozen years from now they’ll trade for an over the hill Chad Kuhl. ^ This. This was the Brewers "big" deadline trade in 1989, that left many scratching their heads. Why trade for an aging so-so starter? Reuss had two more starts scheduled against the Brewers as a White Sox, so trade for the guy and then won't have to face him. No idea until today he was the #2 all-time Brewer Killer.
  20. COVID or no COVID, I'm seriously considering masking up during future winters. It was nice to go through this past winter without runny nose/stuffed nose/common cold.
  21. My 80-year old father is stuck in assisted living and laments his inability to watch the Brewers. My brother is more tech savvy than I and found him a streaming service. Last week my dad watched a Brewer game from his couch first time in two years, so it works for him so far. I haven't attempted it myself. http://www.webplayer.host/live.php
  22. One thing not mentioned is sometimes an athlete will subconsciously change a mechanic to compensate for an injury only to screw something else up.
  23. Just turned the game on and as Zimmerman was about to be pulled, the catcher pats him on the chest on the name plaque had "HAM" and I go "HUH?".
  24. As I was watching last night, some thoughts come to mind. The last three trips/six matches in the FF, the Badgers were underdogs. So anything they did was gravy. This year was the first they came in as favorites. Texas controlled all facets of the game. Wisconsin started off Set 1 serving well and built a nice lead and I thought they were on their way. But Texas stepped up its serve receive and passed well. Looking for insights from Sheffeld, but his comment was "I'm really proud of the team", so I guess I gotta figure this out on my own. From reading the IGT today I was able to gleam that 1) the plan was to set Haggerty at the left pin and have her go over the top of the Longhorn setter on the block, but the setter was up to the task 2) passing from the back row was awful, so Hilley couldn't set Rettke properly 3) set distribution from Hilley was questionable all match, given her options 4) Loberg should have been pulled for Demps earlier and more often. I hate to bring up the elephant in the room, but one has to wonder how much COVID-19 played a role. The team was hit hard in February and I wonder if Hilley and Rettke were 100% physically. Also, with the cancelled matches Wisconsin had eleven fewer matches than Texas. A disappointing way to end a season full of hope. As far back as two seasons ago I thought this was the year to do it. In the end, the Haggertys and Lobergs don't have the athleticism to match up against the bluebloods. The program will always be competitive, but am afraid they may not have a team like this again for a while.
  25. And on to the National Semis. Two wins to go.
