  1. Could someone post the odds for the game? I don't think I can access those type of sites from work and I don't want to try.
  2. Don't overlook CC's hitting. Didn't he have a walk-off SF? I remember being at a game where he hit for himself in the bot-9th.
  3. For a one game playoff "series", you could basically whittle your rotation down to 1 guy and carry at least 3 extras, could you not? So if you're starting Chacin you could leave off Gio, Miley, and Anderson, and carry extras in the pen and bench. Wild card roster shouldn't be a ton different than what we got now minus guys like Nottingham and Saladino who serve no real purpose anyway. I would keep Gio, in case Chacin struggles the first two innings.
  4. In the 9th inning of the final game, Ray Fosse's long drive hits the top of the railing and stays in for a triple. The game ends with him stranded at third. That also was *his* final game.
  5. Briggs beats me to it. I wish to nominate '79 for at least top three. Hisle, Cooper, Lezcano and Yount's breakthrough season. The most wins by a team until 2011. As mentioned above, the '78-'83 teams pretty much had set rosters the entire season. None of this 40-man manipulation stuff by Harry Dalton. Plus, this year's team struggled to score at times.
  6. One player no one ever mentions is Larry Hisle. He played a few games in April before being lost for the season. Imagine him as DH with his 1979 numbers in place of Money/Howell.
  7. I think Travis dropped an F-bomb after strike three. I could hear it over the TV.
  8. I remember quite well back in '82 the Brewers wanted to put a MWL team in Madison on the condition Warner Park would be upgraded. The Common Council being who they were, quibbled amongst themselves until the Brewers said the heck with it and put the team in Beloit.
  9. After taking a 1-0 lead, figured it was a good time to take a shower. Missed all the fireworks.
  10. I'm surprised to hear the Cubs will be flying out tonight. I wouldn't think post-midnight arrivals would be allowed at DCA.
  11. I was in attendance and how the heck I missed seeing that I'll never know.
  12. Doing just that is one of my favorite things after Cub losses. Though I also have to say that a lot of the hosts do a pretty nice job, at least on WSCR. Even better listening to the Score after a Packer win over the Bears.
  13. Odell Jones in 1988 maybe? Went 7 perfect before giving up a walk in the 8th & a single in the 9th. That's who I was thinking of. I thought it was the 90's but me being wrong is nothing new. You're memory is obviously way better than mine. Yes 1988, a game in Cleveland. Ron Washington broke up the no-hitter. I remember because I still have this game on videotape.
  14. I don't know about you, but I was at Game 5 of the '82 ALCS. (How was the weather in Atlanta?) My dad put in for a pair of season tickets for the LCS and WS and received tickets LGS way down the RF line. Got to attend three games.
  15. IIRC 2002-ish, late in September the Brewers are playing spoiler in Houston. Jeff Cirillo playing first base fields a sharp grounder next to the base, steps on it and throws home late. Cubs benefit. Anybody verify if I'm spot on?
  16. Sox are at home...so maybe. Really I would sure hope so. I remember the Crew was in Washington when they traded for Swarzak and it took forever for him to join the club. I recall joking with the guy next to me "You'd think there would plenty of flights from O'Hare to Reagan".
  17. Don't remember, was Gio scheduled to pitch this weekend? If so, then the Nats send out someone lower on the depth chart.
  18. Baseball version of the "Tuck Rule"?
  19. We were there last year to catch a couple of Brewer games. We stayed a mile north of the White House. A wide selection of nice places to grab dinner in that area. We were at the Capitol when Congress was in session, that was neat. But they're not in session now. They give tours, but I found it brief. Secure a tour pass online. Or go across the street and visit the offices of Wisconsin's two senators. Hang out at the National Mall, I preferred the late afternoon. People are getting off work, so there are softball games going on, maybe a rugby match. People jogging. The DC crowd skews young and lead active lives. Places to visit would be Arlington Cemetery or any of the galleries, all on the Metro. Trump Hotel, if inclined. I really didn't see any places to hang out around Nationals Park. The Metro drops off two blocks from the stadium. Most went straight to the train station after the game. On edit: the good places to eat are north of the White House, not the Capitol.
  20. I remember reading the story in the paper, but 100% sure it wasn't Don Davey. Don Davey graduated in 1989 or 90.
  21. THIS, can never be forgiven...EVER! I'm sure RR has completely forgotten, and maybe doesn't even think that was a monumental mistake, but we Brewers fans, will have to live with it forever. Gosh that was horrible. I got over it long ago. At the time, Gomez was a black hole offensively. I had no problem switching defense for offense.
  22. And I missed the HR and ML history due to my upstream post.
  23. Milwaukee's Charlotte Rae has died. She was on "Different Strokes" and "Facts of Life".
