  1. I'd add myself to the list, but I'm thinking I'm more valuable to the team at SS/3B than I am at P?? True. That's why I've been practicing on my own. I feel it's the best way for me to contribute to the team. I'm getting better, but BP yesterday shows I'm still not quite game ready. Razzzor was pretty good with his control. One thing I have learned this season is how much of a killer walks are. Let's say against White House instead of 7 walks instead 4 doubles and 3 fly outs, they score 19 in five innings as opposed to 28. Against Landmark we drew 12 walks - if half of those are singles and the other half outs, we score only 10 instead of 23. I think we should go whomever has the best control, not neccessarily the best spin or arc.
  2. I defiantely would be up for it. I need someone to hit a couple dozen fly balls my way - I'm just not 100% comfortable out there yet as everyone could tell from last night. 11:00 would work better for me, but I could make 10. I have someone coming in at 9 to install a trophy case and I don't want my wife home alone.

    Game 5 recap

An "atta boy" award to valpocrewsader for coming up with the winning lineup. The top of the order just pounded the ball each time up. I'm glad we decided to let valpo lead off. It gave us three runs in the first we otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Plus, it put our oppenents on their heels and showed them we meant business tonight! I would like to commend everyone on the team for keeping a good attitude. It was a rough couple of games and it would have been easy to get down on ourselves, but still we held our heads high. Everyone showed up tonight expecting victory and we achieved it. My wife tells me how impressed she is as to how well we all get along with each other. We have a lot of winners on this team.

  6. Jamie, I understand the desire to the equalize the AB's, but I really, really, really wish to win tonight! I would like to see valpo lead off - let's give ourselves the best chance for victory. We can decide here or discuss it before the game. Whatever we end up doing, I'll go along with it.
  7. I like valpocrewsader's idea. valpocrewsader - Houlie24x - AJAY - Robin19 - bball123h nullbyte - DougJones43 - razzzorsharp - Jimbo - Brewer Fever brewerjamie15 - Iron Chef Napalm - AJOHNSON104 radman12484 - Brian The Automator - colbyjack My simulation program computes 9.44 runs, about the same as the OBP simulation. Without jamie and colby, the number goes up to 10.42 Jamie's theory was to go singles - power - singles - power A possible lineup would be AJAY - bball123h - Houlie24x - valpocrewsader - Robin19 DougJones43 - nullbyte - razzzorsharp - Brewer Fever - brewerjamie15 - Jimbo - radman12484 - Iron Chef Napalm AJOHNSON104 - Brian The Automator - colbyjack Similar results to OPS and OBP: 9.37 runs, 10.48 without jamie and colby. I vote for valpo's lineup. Got some studs on top!
  8. Just a few things to keep in mind: That tall white guy who plays SS homered against us in the opener, and also homered against Landmark two weeks ago. Their one lefty hit a foul ball into the tennis courts. Look back at the box score. Their first six did most of the damage. Hitters 7-11 didn't do much. I remember being able to cheat up in RF on those guys. If it's tight late, IBB the 5/6 guy to face a weaker guy? Houlie is ready for the OF. We'll have 14 guys. What lineup do we use, and who plays where? On edit: with a win Thursday, we could possibly be in a tie for third place. The last couple of weekends I have been practicing pitching and have been gaining confidence. I would like to try an inning or two - maybe next week?
  9. Let's do that daisy thing. Good idea. Ooh yeah, good thinking. Daisy Chain: Man Law!
  10. One thought that came to me yesterday is to come up with one batting order and "daisy chain" it. Say the 9th batter makes the final out this week, then next week the 10th batter "leads off", followed by 11th, 12th, ... No need to constantly reshuffle the lineup each week. Everyone would be within one PA of each other the final six games.
  11. After last week's game Jamie and I were kicking around ideas and how to improve our run output. I threw together a quick simulation program using our real-time stats. I didn't come up with a way to simulate opponent fielding errors, so the numbers are in earned runs scored. As a benchmark, I first used out opening day lineup, then compred other lineups to that. Jamie is thinking about mixing it up, so all the weaker hitters aren't up in a row. Looking at the figures, I would say it would have no effect. We basically are going to average 8 or 9 runs a game no matter the lineup. If we think we will be in a close game, it's possible to tweak it to get that extra run or two. Results
  12. Ahem, that's "Kc".
  13. Any pop available, or is it bring your own?

    Game 4 recap

AJAY: We were pretty much had done the "same old, same old" the first three games. I think we saw this as an opprotunity to mixed things up a bit. I appreciate the opprotunity to play 3B and bat fifth, but it's pretty obvious I was out of place on both counts. ALL: Jamie and I threw some ideas around in the parking lot last night with regards to the batting order. I did some rough back of the envelope calculations. Using a lineup ranked by OBP, best to worst: 40 PA, 21 outs, 19 baserunners Using a lineup ranked by OBP, worst to best: 36 PA, 21 outs, 15 baserunners How many more runs an extra 4 baserunners produce, I don't know. But the difference between most efficient and least efficient is just a couple of runs. Mixing up a lineup and changing the rotation would fall somewhere in between. If I have some time this weekend, I'll throw together a quick simulation program and see what come out.

  16. The Brewers have made it clear in the information they provided to us that we ALL can be removed for misconduct on the part of ONE person. Hawing, we're all looking your way. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. nullbyte's thought goes along the same lines as what Jamie was thinking. However, we say we want everyone to get an equal number of swings, yet we say we want to give ourselves the best chance to win. I see this as somewhat of a paradox. I have one idea of a compromise. Create two pools of players, Pool A has the best 8-10 hitters and hit first, Pool B the rest. Every week, guys rotate the batting order within their own pool. Yeah, the Pool A guys get more PAs, but if you do the math, a Pool A guy will get on avergae just 3 more PA than a Pool B guy over the final six games. We have the late game, but how about a ten minute pow-wow after the game tonight to hash these ideas and take a vote. Next week is the Club Carnival re-match and I would like us to field our best team possible. ----- Also, Jamie had brought up the subject of mixing up the defense a bit. Three guys have defensed all 21 innings. Who is our #2 pitcher tonight? Robin19?
  18. Houlie had requested time in LF. On edit: if anyone can't make it, please post here ASAP.
  19. The boys from Brewerfan.net take on first place White House. Last Thursday, White House defeated Bay Street Pub for sole possession of first place. Game time 9 pm. Any suggestions for line-ups?
  20. Sometime next week I'll crunch our opponents' stats to use as a benchmark. I updated the stat page. We've played one stronger team, an even team and a weaker team. Our OBP and FA are similar. One thing that stands out is our 18 K(!), and we're behind in XBH 20-9. We also to seem to hit more grounders - is that cause for concern? The topic of sample sizes - only the elite play at the MLB level, dozens/hundreds of PA are neccessary to seperate the wheat from the chaff. At our level, the difference in talent is spread out enough that the cream will rise to the top after just a few games.
  21. I'm up for a Sunday morning workout. 10 am we were talking about?
  22. I was going to wait until the All-Star break to post this thought, but since the team is in brainstorm mode, here it goes. Power Hitters: (ranked by SLG) 1. valpocrewsader 2. Houlie24X 3. Bball123h 4. Robin19 5. DougJones43 6. AJAY Singles Hitters: (ranked by OBP) 1. Jimbo 2. razzzorsharp 3. nullbyte 4. Brewer Fever 5. Brewerjamie15 6. radman 7. colbyjack 8. AJOHNSON104 9. ICN 10. Brian (I know, robbed of 2 hits by the umps) Do we do a line up of: S1-P2-S2-P1-S3-P3-S4-P4-S5-P5-S6-P6-S7-S8-S9-S10 ???? Sometime next week I'll crunch our opponents' stats to use as a benchmark.
  23. That picture is weird/funny on a lot of levels. What's scarry to me is that Dude is their #9 hitter and looks like he could be a bouncer at Anna'a and is bigger than anybody on our team except Kenny.
  24. First, the good: Our power guys kept it going tonight: Houlie, valpo, Bball wi th a multi-hit game. Keep in mind guys we retired 9 out of 10 at one point. The score after 3 was 3-1. the bad: Jamie discussed in the other recap thread. My scouting report. IIRC, last night two flies to center, a fly and a grounder to the right side. So kinda close there. But sure don't remember them hitting more than three deep balls the first game. the ugly: Anyone aware we had one AB with RISP - when Jamie grounded out to end the game. Also, a 40-year-old man is tied for second on the team in BA. I had wanted to reshoot the team photo this week (better lighting), but after the game the thought totally slipped my mind. We were in no mood for a shoot, anyhow.
