  1. I was thinking of doing a "Rich Dauer". The outfield would be LF-LCF-CF-RF. I just sense the right-handed batters pulling or going up the middle. The chess game would be how much do we cheat over to the left side? There's a batting cage not far from where I live. Over the next couple of weeks I'll practice on going the other way so I can make "productive outs" when neccessary instead of taking everything up the middle.
  2. Perhaps someone should scout out the opposing teams and we can generate some data to run a little alien defense... Being that I'm the Director of Statistical Research for this team, I will more than be happy to volunteer to scout our opponents and put together some defensive metrics. I've got some ideas already...
  3. Anyone have any ideas for Saturday? My thoughts would be to loosen up as usual, then a round of batting practice. But then I'm thinking maybe a couple of guys hitting fungos - one to the OF and one to the IF. In MLB defense may be 10% of the game, but in rec softball I'm thinking closer to 40%. Also, should we start considering who would fit which positions the best? When we break camp I don't think it would be a bad idea to have a feel for who would be our - pitcher(s) - middle infielders - corner infielders - outfielders This way we'll be prepared for the opener instead of winging it. If I'm being way too serious, just let me know. Finally, do we have a scorebook or should I go out and get one?
  4. (Any chance of having a game-day thread for your games?) I have volunteered to keep the stats and will update to this site after each game.
  5. A few pics. The guys looked sharp in the unies. http://my.execpc.com/~silkey/SA400022.JPG http://my.execpc.com/~silkey/SA400023.JPG http://my.execpc.com/~silkey/SA400024.JPG
  6. Now I know how Sheets feels. My back under my throwing arm is stiff.
  7. Hmmm, always has been enabled. Also 'accept messages from mod' is set to true.
  8. Do I go to 'my control center' or "EZinbox'?? Not sure how to go about this.
  9. Hey guys. I bought my glove last weekend and I need to break it in. I'm in Waukesha if anyone wants to throw the ball around or shag flies. On edit: I'll be free anytime Sunday and most likely Saturday afternoon.
  10. Shades of 1987, baby! I want some free burgers. One bad thing about OD. I work one mile from MP and now I'll be caught up in traffic.
  11. How fast are Turnbow's pitches coming in? swung at 97, 97, 96, caught looking at 86.
  12. Pujols already in mid-season form. Two homers.
  13. Those look sweet. I envy you guys a bit. But I'm useless with a bat, ball and/or glove and I don't live close enough to probably even visit. I'll root for bf.net from afar. Hawing, we can just give you a mask and glove and you can be the catcher. That's probably what I'll end up doing, anyhow. Us 40-year olds can be the "Damien Millers" of BF.net
  14. Given that d(W)=0.10*d((1.0)*Runs For - (1.0)*Runs Against) or d(W)=0.10*d(Runs For - Runs Against) I would say runs scored and runs allowed would have equal correlation since they have equal coefficients.
  15. Remember, R + Outs + Team LOB = PA Either you were out, scored or was left on.
  16. 1) Is the correlation of a pitchers ERA and record better than a correlation of a 2) pitcher teams run support and record. Are you talking about indivual ERA vs. record, or team ERA vs. team record?
  17. 23. Jenkins 6.59 ($20.08) 31. Overbay 5.84 ($18.10) 33. Hall 5.80 ($18.28) 35. Clark 5.70 ($18.49) 42. Lee 5.40 ($23.30) Jenkins 6.59 > Lee 5.40, but Lee $23.30 > Jenkins $20.08. What gives? Both play (corner) outfield.
  18. Perhaps it could be used to detect processes that "out of control" and signal the early stages of slumps before they are actually deemed "slumps". Are you familar with Cu-Sum charts? I think p-charts would be hard to apply.
  19. After coming to grips with a better understanding of six sigma and statistical process control, I am wondering if it could be applied to baseball. I would say in Geoff Jenkins' "Red X' early in 2005 would have been hitting while with RISP. >:
  20. Sorry, given your "stat-savvy'ness" I thought you would be familiar. It's just a statistical software package. Any of the other packages should be able to read in .dB files. SPSS S+ R What about Minitab?
  21. I guess you can start by taking a look at the one on this site for current Brewers. It's pretty interesting. Not to be anal, but it's missing TURNBOW! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. I don't know about sim leagues, but this is how I view the real world: Offense = 50% Pitching = 45% (starters 30%, relievers 15% roughly) Fielding = 5% Think of a balance, for every run an offense scores, the defense allowed it. Unearned runs account for 10% of all runs, hence the ratio of pitching to fielding is 9:1.
  23. This has always bugged me. When we evaluate players, we always talk about 10 runs being equal to a win. I've seen it so much I accept it as fact. But I'd love to see a couple links to more information about it. Two ways to come up with the magic number of 10 additional runs = 1 additional win. Use linear regression. Let wins be your dependent variable while run differential is the independent variable. Use data from any year. Or for those not statistically inclined, take out a sheet of ordinary graph paper. Let the Y-axis be wins, the X-axis run differential. Take the 14 or 16 teams from any league or any year and plot. Draw a straight line that closest to connecting most of the dots. That line should have a slop of about "10".
  24. I was at the game Tuesday night. Section 222, great seats. Talk about bad karma, there was a guy sitting a few seats over wearing an Antoine Williamson game jersey. I was co-linear with the RF foul line and the disputed by Jenkins was on the line when Clark picked it up. The only downer was Hardy's GIDP in the eight with Wise on deck. Curious to see if Wise would continue on his 1.000 BA streak.
