  1. Plate appearances by batting order, NL averages last season: 755, 742, 723, 706, 688, 669, 654, 633, 616 Moving Gomez from 8th to 2nd gives him 110 extra PA's in the season. That's 17% more Carlos Gomez PA's. 12% less Corey Hart PA's. That's a horrible trade. No amount of "strikes Prince sees" is going to make that kind of impact.
  2. I was at the game yesterday, was one of about 30 or so I've been to at the Kohl Center, and it was a different kind of loud. When they came back to be down 7 (I think on a Taylor 3 pointer) the crowd woke up. From that point on (about 11 minutes to go) the place was bonkers. Louder than I'd ever heard it, and when Gasser hit the 3 to tie it, the place was shaking. The student section was awesome, as they always are in big games, but what really pushed it over the top was all the seat holders in the lower bowl being up, being loud and being fans. It was shocking.
  3. I suppose maybe I should sell the 2 hot dog bobbles I already have from 4 years ago now. Sigh.
  4. If the best 5 hitters aren't in the first 5 spots in the lineup, I'll be more angry than when Edmonds played CF and Gomez played RF last year. Gomez has no business hitting anywhere but 9th until he proves he can consistently do something more than bunt the ball foul and make outs at the plate.
  5. There is a huge lack of Monty Python knowledge in the 25 and under crowd.
  6. I'm curious as to who you think had the better year last year, as a hitter... Weeks or Ichiro?
  7. Joe Inglett, Gabe Gross, Russel Branyan, Jim Edmonds, Eric Chavez, heck, even Kevin Mench. All available. Rather have any of them than Kotsay. This is a million dollar risk for no upside signing. I don't understand it.
  8. It's a shame Bruesewitz continues to get the minutes he does, Offensively he seems to have no idea what his purpose on the floor is, but with this marking the 4th season in a row that Jarmusz has failed to step up.... he's been the same as always: Doesn't turn the ball over, doesn't get beat on the defensive end, but doesn't really do anything above average. What Bo wouldn't give for a decent small forward... or 3rd guard. I think they can still make a run in the tournament, it will depend on Gasser stepping up and hitting his 3's.
  9. Because, say there are 2000 seats in a given section, they sell 4 sets of 20 game packs, selling a total of 3,000 seats.... what should they do with the extra 1,000 people?
  10. So, you don't consider if there were guys on base at all? It's nice you're making up your own rate stats, but you can't pull them out and not take into account the context. Betancourt had 294 ABs (52%) with no one on and 262 (48%) with runners on, 152 (27%) of those with RISP. Punto was 63 with RISP (21%), 166 (57%)with no one on and 122 (43%) with men on base. So, Betancourt had WAY more opportunities percentagewise than Punto did.
  11. Darn it... makes them better and us worse. 700 K!!! Doug! PONY UP A MILLION!
  12. Loved the premiere.... but what made me laugh the hardest last night was one simple line in Community: Jeff: Nice sweater. Andre (played by Malcom Jamaal Warner): Thanks. My dad gave it to me.
  13. You're getting close, you see, opening day is the first game the Brewers play in the regular season, where as Opening Day is the statewide holiday celebrated with the sharing of beer at Miller Park.
  14. My last 5 jersey/jersey-shirt purchases: Cameron, Escobar, Cain, (both bought after the season) Jermichael Finley, Carlos Delfino, Brandon Jennings. I'm seriously considering going out and buying a Lance Briggs or Jay Cutler shirt this week.
  15. My guess would be windows updates. I have a similar problem when updates auto install on my computer. I could be completely wrong, though. You could give this a try as well (what Carlos says)
  16. The 'crew is at a huge disadvantage in the division this year. They have 6 games vs the Twins, 3 vs the Red Sox and Yankees, and 3 vs the Rays. The Cardinals get 6 vs the Royals, 3 vs the Orioles and the Blue Jays and 3 vs the Rays. Those 12 different games could very well cost the 'Crew the division crown.
  17. The guy had a great year last year, and if he could be had for a million bucks, he'd be a definite upgrade over Gomez, and probably over Dickerson. Hart won't be playing CF anytime soon.
  18. Pre Garza trade was the first set of 2011 division winner projections that I saw over in Russ's post. Cardinals 90.2 71.8 746 676 35.0% Brewers 87.2 74.8 698 650 27.9% Reds 85.5 76.5 723 689 23.5% Cubs 79.3 82.7 742 761 10.5% Pirates 67.7 94.3 671 808 2.1% Astros 65.8 96.2 604 732 1.1% So, with whatever bump the Cubs get, it will come at the expense, mostly, of the Cards, Brewers and Reds, as the Pirates and Astros have no room to get worse. The Cubs probably got about 3 wins better, which would be about a 4% or so gain.
  19. Here is Martinez's 6 year peak: 1995-2001BA/OBP/SLG/OPS/OPS+ .356 .479 .628 1.107 185 .327 .464 .595 1.059 166 .330 .456 .554 1.009 165 .322 .429 .565 .993 158 .337 .447 .554 1.001 152 .324 .423 .579 1.002 157 .306 .423 .543 .966 160 He wasn't just an elite hitter, he was an all time great hitter. Anyway, I can't make the argument for him nearly as well as Joe Posnanski did.
  20. Ryan Braun, while attempting to be "more aggressive" on the base paths, will get picked off or thrown out at least 5 times.
  21. Everyone in MLB played with a bunch of steroid users. Joe Posnanski made the point today, that before Pujols, was Bagwell the best 1B ever in the NL? Musial was primarily an OF, and Banks a SS. And for comparisons sake: Player 1 .294 .387 .437 .824 .273 .368 .444 .812 .320 .388 .516 .904 .368 .451 .750 1.201 .290 .399 .496 .895 .315 .451 .570 1.021 ----------------------------- Player 2: .264 .329 .420 .748 .300 .366 .481 .847 .327 .399 .527 .926 .308 .361 .535 .896 .309 .408 .617 1.025 .323 .402 .674 1.076 So, who was the big steroid user here?
  22. Carlos Gomez and Yuni Betancourt both hit RH. (See what I did there?)
