  1. Simmons was probably the second best C in baseball over the course of his career. I'd think that deserves a lot of HoF consideration. The problem is, the guy who overlapped him was Bench. As for Simmons being a DH: He had 400ish games at DH and nearly 1700 (started) as a Catcher. I'd take him over Fisk or Carter behind the plate, for sure. It's staggering to me that Marvin Miller isn't in the Hall. And it will be even worse if Steinbrenner gets in before him. Miller is the reason Steinbrenner could become Steinbrenner.
  2. It's on his batting page, under advanced batting.... How I got from 1.9 to 0.08 was by simply converting runs to ERA. Looks like I flubbed, and it should've been 0.09. Saying Yo's bat was worth half a run a start seems... well... way, way too high, imo.
  3. baseball-reference.com has "batting runs", which is basically the equivalent. Gallardo had 1.9 batting runs this season, so that's about .08 of ERA for him.
  4. With the 3B and 1B playing 60 feet from home plate when a pitcher is sacrificing, it just isn't a good play. Especially when the Brewers have two pitchers who hit nearly as well as their starting SS.
  5. I understand Jennings wanting to get other people involved, but if they are going to constantly switch on a Pick and Roll and put a big on him on the perimeter, he needs to take the ball to the rim. He did it once out of about 15 times tonight and got a layup.
  6. The NBA is marketed by players. It's 5 on a team, with one individual making a huge impact in any given game. MLB is marketed... as... um... the Yankees and the Red Sox. I'm a huge baseball fan, I went to 40+ Brewers games this season. I couldn't have told you 5 players on Texas's roster before the playoffs.... and they were in first place all season.
  7. There is, completely a reason to justify it. Supply and Demand. There is a much larger crop of guys who can play 1B than 3B at the MLB level and the majority of them will outhit McGehee. If he can't play 3B, then he's just not nearly as valuable a commodity.
  8. How much is too much to pay for a manager? 15 mil over 3 years? Way too much. I'd even say, 10 mil over 3 years is way too much. That's at least 7 million that could be better spent on the product that's on the field... or, to put it another way.... that would be cutting the team's payroll by about 3.5%.
  9. 3 games in... my thoughts: Delfino looks like he's taking another huge step forward so far. Magette is what he is. And has looked good doing it. Gooden isn't comfortable playing next to Bogut yet. They played all of 5 minutes (or so) together in the pre-season. That's understandable. I don't understand why they insist on throwing him the ball in the post so much, though. He might lose his starting spot in a hurry if he continues to be a black hole when he gets the ball. Jennings has seemed lost defensively so far. I'm saddened by it, as he was SO good at the end of last year. Dooling has no business being on the floor. Ever. I'd rather Delfino or Salmons try to run the point.
  10. The more I think about it, the more I want to see this happen: Extend Weeks (4/40ish), sign Adrian Beltre (4/52), trade Fielder and either McGehee or Gamel, whomever gets more pitching. Leaving you with 2 of Hart/Gamel/McGeehee playing 1B and RF, and what might be the best defensive left side of an infield.
  11. I'd much rather see them extend Weeks at 10M per and spend 13M a year on Beltre than sign Prince for 25M per.
  12. Next time, ask Brewerfan. Oh, and the reason they tell you to unplug the router is to make sure it's not a problem with your cable box/cable hookup. That it actually IS the router itself. Process of elimination.
  13. If the Bat glove is not used next season, something is seriously wrong with MLB. Stuff like this should not be happening.
  14. I can't wait for the WES-consin badgers ath-a-letes to w-hip the cupcakes on Saturday.
  15. A huge congrats to BA. One of the best in the business. I can't believe they let Brenly's whiny self do any games. Amazing. Oh well, at least it's not Joe Buck doing a Cardinals game...
  16. The best thing I heard, in regards to that: Only 20 other guys in MLB history have ever had even half that many saves. Closers just don't have that kind of longevity.
  17. The more of his contract the 'Crew has to pay, the less they'd trade. That's really what it comes down to. Look at the Astros, they traded Berkman and 4 million dollars for nothing.
  18. Fine, watch the video then. Tell me the point where Braun runs hard (and he ends up 10 feet from where Cain made the play). It's the same as when he let the ball drop next to him on a ball hit 15 feet away from him 3 days later. A lack of effort. Braun has been in LF for 3 years. It's not the fact that he gets a bad jump on the ball that bothers me. It's that he doesn't position himself based on the game situation, and he still catches every single fly ball flat footed even when he needs to make a throw. The things that are learnable, he hasn't bothered to learn.
  19. I was watching, without sound on, so I'm not sure how many guys got tossed out... I saw 4, plus the fan?
  20. I think they might do that. About a month ago, after the Italian Sausage bobblehead game, I got a coupon for a free small fry from McDonalds. I didn't notice anything as to why they were being given out though. "Text McDonalds to see what gate you can get your free small fries at after the game!" It's a scam, so you get about 9,000 texts from McDonalds after the original one until you figure out how to unsubscribe from their auto-text list.
  21. Braun simply doesn't care. Watch him out there. He never adjusts based on the hitter, the count or the game situation. He also doesn't like to run hard on anything hit over his head. A prime example: Lo Cain's great catch: Cain ran almost twice as far as Braun would've had to to catch the ball. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/b7c155998b69579a63bd327dcfe3ab3edf17daa.jpg
  22. Alrighty, I'm prepping my order now, probably doing 2, maybe 3.... Can anyone who's ordered before give me equivalent info on sizes? I'm assuming 48=Medium, 52 Large? I know they are chest measurements and what not, but since every company is different... just wondering if someone has experience. I wear a large t-shirt comfortably.
  23. Werth is going to be the #2 OF on the market this off season, I'd wager he goes for 15-18 a year and 5-6 years. I don't think it's wise for the Brewers to be spending that kind of money on a corner OF (where Gamel and Lawrie may still end up). I'd rather they spend that kind of cash on a guy like Beltre.
  24. You can't touch a guy while the ball is live. Period. There really isn't any room in the rules for a gray area there, in my opinion. "Oh they just touched hands." but what if the 3b coach grabbed his hand to help him stop? Nyjer Morgan was just called out at home last week on a similar thing when Ivan Rodriguez pushed him back to home plate after he missed it.
  25. By the way, to anyone in Milwaukee looking for a new beer-bar, Stubby's Pub 'n Grub just opened up a few weeks ago, right next to the Humbolt St bridge (that was out for 2 years) where Bayou used to be. They have 50+ beers on tap (and there's no Lienie's or Macro's on tap at all -- so 50+ real beers). Oh, and their food (what I've had so far) is phenomenal.
